The athletic is a clickbait rag at this point.

I was referring to the consensus on this site.

TheAthletic is garbage.

So, the sum of your arguments is "The Athletic sucks, lolz...", right?

I'll readily acknowledge that he quality of The Athletic has gone down tremendously in recent years, but that's more a reflection of the cuts in staff and many teams losing a dedicated beat writer than it is with some of their deep dive pieces.

Do you have any actual critiques of the article or the methodology used?

As for "consensus on this site", you absolutely have no idea about the motivations behind the votes in this poll.

So they have Hughes scoring 10 more points, being worse defensively and rate them out at 17 and 16 overall, yet they’re in different tiers? Makes sense

You already said it yourself that it's gone down tremendously, so why should be that be used as a measuring piece to gauge their worth? Their reason to somehow excuse why he struggled in 2021-22 is faulty. Not to mention they themselves admitted to having EP way too low to begin with. So congrats you played yourself.

@ bold, and you don't either. but guess what, there's a lot of hate for the Nucks than there is for the Devils. and yet despite that, EP is considered to better. Who would've thought people prefer a more well rounded player than the lesser one. SHOCKER.

Ah yes, use some stupid gif to illustrate a response of nothing important.

tell him pettersson over mcdrai because he plays both ways and he will flip his opinion.
Focus on your own team devil head, we’ll see you eventually on what will be a great match.

why the hostility?

i just have seen many people taking both sides of the same argument depending on team color.

Oh that’s in good fun. “Devil head” just a little harmless jab. And I said it’s going to be a great matchup implying both our teams have big horses and the game will be a great one.

Cheers brother

hey, TBF, what are your thoughts on Canucks as a team ?
i think they are stuck in a bad position.

they have some really good core pieces, which keeps them on the playoff bubble and away from the top end prospects in the draft.
they have a horrible cap situation for the foreseeable future.
they have a relative bad prospect pipeline and no surplus of draft picks, which won't allow them to fill gaps in their line-up with cheap contracts.
they have an owner unwilling to see the reality or not interested in building a contender.

if you meant the fan base.

i have seen unrealstic expectations from the active part (on the mainboard) of their fan base back to the days of 'boeser over barzal'. i am not reading the vancouver board where for sure more diverse opinions are present.

but the overall impression i get is that the guy you called a troll is not sticking out to an extreme. the one who does is m2beezy (who i figured out) is posting his stuff sarcastically.

hey, HBK, why are you mocking him there! He deserves it a few times in this thread but not there, that was a genuine question and you left him hanging . Are they in different tiers in your eyes?

Our cap situation for the foreseeable future is not horrible aside from the two years OEL’s cap hit becomes almost $5M.

We have our recent 11th OA Willander who has been excellent so far and has come as advertised, and the other 3rd round pick Elias Pettersson in Sweden who has been terrific there and will most likely make the jump to NA next year. In the year that cap hit bites us, we will have these two on ELC’s in the back end, by fall of 2025. Canucks fans are excited about our future defensive core.

Our forward prospect pool is an area of concern for sure. Lekkerimaki has had a resurgence this year after a mono and an injury plagued season and is looking like the player we drafted in the SHL. Then there’s Raty and Podkolzin who should develop into reliable bottom 6 players for us. Other than that, not much. Continued 1st round selections, which our management has been on record saying they won’t trade our 1sts, should hopefully help that situation. Otherwise, we are slightly under middle of the pack.

It is a work in progress to undue Benning’s mess and unfortunately sacrificing picks for immediate cap relief has been something that was needed to be done. That said, we are very pleased with majority of what management has done in nearly 2 years. A lot of our bloated contracts are set to expire within these next 2 years and our cap situation should allow us the flexibility needed to address the areas of concern. There’s also the significant salary cap raises in the next 2-3 years.

look i am not familiar with those prospects. but if you bank on two specific prospects to fill roster gaps two years down the line the chances that at least one of them dissapoints is much higher than both developping fast enough.

I hate bullshit like this when great hockey minds who happen to be part of different fan bases fight with each other because they have a similar comparable top player.

What could be great hockey synergy and discussion, but no! Bridges have to be burned because trolls ask the same god damn poll questions 4 times a year

I see with so many posters and different teams
You clearly didn't read any of the thread........

You guys just had two embarrassing losses, im not taking your opinion seriously as of now as emotions are high.

All in all, I do like what you have to say, but it’s going to be left on hold for now

It makes sense because the rankings/tiers are not purely based on the model results. They use the model as a starting point and then adjust accordingly based on discussions and feedback.

I decided not to cop out and choose "undecided" but man, this is as close as it gets.

Took EP because I think he's hitting Selke levels defensively, but I really don't know.

Consider both of them on the Mack/Drai/Matthews tier personlly, just above players like Stutzle and Barkov.

We’re at a point where how many points The Athletic thinks you’ll get is more important than the number of points you actually get.
