“Rob Vollman summarizes this quite well in his book Stat Shot: The Ultimate Guide to Hockey Analytics: “Most players hit their peak age by age 24 or 25 then decline gradually until age 30, at which point their performance can begin to tumble more noticeably with the risk of absolute collapse by age 34 or 35.”

The Bruins were spoiled by Chara, Bergeron, Krejci & Marchand all obliterating normal NHL aging curves. Having 1 guy like that is special but having FOUR on the same team is something I don't think we'll see again for a long time.

I hope Lindholm finds his game soon, otherwise we might be looking at an absolute anchor & it might have come way earlier than the front office had expected it.

I'd like to see a study like this done for elite players only. Take out the 3rd and 4th liners, the guys who really can't afford to lose anything. I'm sure you still see a decline but I bet it's much more gradual and they maintain a high level into their 30's.

They did sort of attempt to do this by figuring in only the top players 390 players forwards and 210 defenseman in TOI but that's still an awful lot more than what you're looking for. Their data window is a bit limited, with the study only looking at an 8 year window. The guts of the study though are pretty extensive, I just wish they had expanded their window a bit more.

It'd be interesting to see it along side the cumulative decrease salary cap commitment as a % of the growing cap year on year too.

What a great shift (assist to Detroit calling time out allowing him to have the energy/stay out) last 1:22 of 6 on 4 pulled goalie

Won clean draw to start that Zadarov sent down ice & killed play on wall and cleared zone to end it

He’s gotta bury a few more but his D game is there with Bergeron

Hyperbol I presume.!!

If not, I don't see him at Bergeron D game level

Hes still a ghost to me. Ghost is not necessarily awful, it just means he doesn’t do anything glaring bad or glaringly good so you never notice him on the ice. Fact is though he signed a lucrative contract to be a number one center and he needs to provide more glaringly good games. So hopefully more to come, but not surprised by anyone that has their reservations about him.

When you don’t have a one or two, this what happens. You overpay out of necessity. I think he’s a two. He’s not a bad player. No way they can just sign a first line center in this league without breaking the bank. None are coming up anytime soon.

His effort has been good and his defensive game has been very good, but that's not enough. To my eyes, Charlie Coyle has been more noticeable offensively. At least Coyle tries to create his own scoring chances.

It feels like one of the reasons we're struggling is because we brought Lindholm in to improve the top6 and so far, he hasn't done that.

If I'm the coach, I go back to what worked last year; Zacha-Pasta we've already done, Marchand-Coyle is up next. I put Lindholm at 3c where he should be an upgrade over what we had last year and it gives him some time to see if he can get his offensive game going. That's what Vancouver did with him last year.

I don’t think management would let this happen at this juncture.

That’s an immediate inditement on their pro scouting ability if we signed an almost 8m per year forward to be a 3C.

He's been centering Marchand and Brazzeau. The captain is only now starting to look like he's back from injury and Brazzeau's a tweezer who's been a pleasant surprise. I'd give them time to work it out, particularly only 5 games in to their new coach.

The last thing this club needs is more shuffling and chaos. They need stability to find their games IMO

desperate times called for desperate measures. the GM was desperate to keep this "window" open (and to save his job, legacy, whatever).
lindholm was best center on market. he overpaid to get him. tale as old as time. this team is doomed without rebuilding down the middle.
and they wasted a ton of assets in 2022-23 on UFAs in an attempt to load up even further and win a cup. hard to fault them for that, although
the choices they made at that time are haunting them. probably could've found a pretty good center for those two 1st rounders they gave up
for bertuzzi and orlov.

At 2.5 this guy would be great.
As it is he’s going to be absolutely despised by this fan base over the next couple of years until he is bought out.
What an absolutely brutal signing.

I think he'll be fine if we can move some of the country club vets and give the team a new identity.

Don’t forget the Dman they paid big bucks for to be a third pairing anchor whose main job is apparently to keep the penalty box guy company.
