He'll stay like Drai. Unlike Flames stars, the Edmonton stars actually likes the fanbase they play in front of.

All jokes aside, what makes you think he’ll stay? His best friend Leon? An 8th year?
I love how this is an "Elephant in the room" topic, like it must be talked about and no one wants to say anything.

As if Jealous haters haven't talked about and day dreamed about McDavid leaving since Day 1.

3 MAX Term extensions later (1 by McDavid, 2 by McDavid's best buddy Drai) and a Hall of Fame career in Edmonton where he's shown nothing but wanting to keep playing for this franchise, and apparently the day dream's still not dead.

Let’s be honest, he’d have a hall of fame career on every single of the other 31 franchises in the NHL.

This stuff about him wanting to stay with his best bud Leon is weird to me. I mean, I get the thought process, but it doesn’t make sense for a GOAT level player like McDavid to hinge his legacy on wanting to keep playing with his “best friend”.

He'll most likely re-sign with the Oilers. But Draisaitl's comments when he signed his extension suggest it's not 100%.

But if McDavid heads to free agency wanting to win, that immediately eliminates the Leafs from contention

10+ years of watching him play, grow, and talk about his time in the Oilers market.

Yeh you assume that as if it’s so easy. Nearly everything has gone right for him from an individual accomplishments standpoint. Awards to fill rooms, records to fill books, and he did this is next to the perfect Wing man in Drai. You think many teams could have provided a Drai for him to play with?

Take a look at the teams that were actually contenders for McD in his draft year. Does he have a better career in Buffalo? Does he have a better career in first round exit central Toronto? How bout playing in a College arena in Arizona? When’s the last time these teams made noise in the playoffs let alone make it to game 7 of a Cup finals.

Prepare to be surprised. How are the Leafs going to afford him when they have Matthews, Marner and Nylander already tied up around 40M bucks?

If McDavid was to hit the UFA, the Rangers would be all in.
McDavid is from Toronto and bleeds Blue. No chance he signs with the Rags imo.

Tavares $11m is coming off the books this year. They haven't re-signed Marner, so there is another $11m there as well. The cap is set to go up $4.5m next year, and probably another $4m-$5m again in 2026.

He won’t go there but Marner is a pending ufa himself . I think he re ups in Edmonton but failing that I could see Vegas , Florida , Tampa or the Rangers getting him

Imagine if the Oilers somehow didn't make the playoffs in the last year of his contract....What kind of haul could they get for him at the TDL ?

Leafs are going to re-sign Marner. That's pretty much a given at this point.

I can see McDavid playing for Toronto at some point of his career, but not when he's up in two years. If he doesn't re-sign with Edmonton (which is still 95% the likeliest scenario), I think NYR is probably the highest bidder, at least with what we know now. Some people are saying Vegas or Florida, are these teams getting rid of Eichel and Barkov? Same goes for Toronto, is Matthews going to be gone in two years? With NYR, there is absolutely an open vacancy for a #1C.

LA could be something interesting as well, though I don't know about their cap situation. Following the footsteps of Gretzky, lol.

There's not going to be a better team that's in a position to sign him. I'm sure there'd be teams scrambling to free up space if there was ever a chance at it, but they'd be in a far less competitive situation as a team. Everything pretty much lines up with him re-signing.

I'm struggling to guess what you mean in saying McDavid has an attitude of plain white rice.
He's boring and doesn't do anything remotely outside of the box.

He'll sign another max term deal with EDM. It'll be the highest AAV in the league, but not league max.

Plus EDM has done everything they can to maximally placate him.

McDavid won't be signing in Toronto simply for the money. He took less to play in EDM to win. Don't see him joining the Rags, just because they put together the largest bid.

Yeah, a whopping 0.5M from the max contract that could've been offered by the CBA.

first it was 'wait till Drai' leaves and goes to California. Then he quietly signed and that's done.

I've been hearing about McD leaving forever... I think he'll be comfortably signed well before he hits UFA and it will be an announced signing just like Drai.

And I'm sure, when that happens, everyone saying he is definitely leaving will own up just like they did for the Drai signing.lol
