Just watching the highlights now. Nice 'multi-directional' awareness and timing at 2:48.

They always say to keep your head up to avoid a hit, but there's a moment here when Marner realizes he has got to look down.

I'd like to see if Ehlers can keep up the production with a little more ice time. I think he gained some confidence that he can perform when it matters in the playin series vs. Calgary. He is playing with a lot more confidence so far.

In general I dont think there's so many pieces missing for the Jets this season to go deep in playoffs, maybe a top 4 d? and whole team needs to work hard in front of Helle, so he becomes a wall

Still amazing Ehlers isn’t on our 1st pp and can’t replace pretty much anyone other Kc Schief and D.

Officially the Gretzky of Denmark.

I cannot believe he was in trade rumors a couple of years ago. Imagine if we had traded him for a d-man and given Laine a long term contract as his replacement.

We'd be screwed if we would have traded Ehlers --totally, and I thought the same thing myself. Can people not see that Ehlers has the "whole game", as he's one of the fastest skaters in the NHL, and also has a hard accurate shot. In my mind he's the 2nd best player on the Jets, behind Schiefele, and this excludes Hellebuyck, of course.

Totally agree, and I've been calling for this on this board for the last year. Ehlers should be on Power Play# 1, and I'd like to see him play the point. He has a deadly hard accurate shot, and can charge the net quickly, if there's an opening. Why Maurice cannot see this, is beyond me ??

If I remember correctly he was offered a place on the top unit by Maurice, but chose to be on the second unit and I think that was a great choice.
The first unit will always run through Scheif and Wheels. Ehlers would get hardly a touch on that unit unless he's on the point while the second unit runs through him on the half wall.
This guy is an amazing hockey player. It's some of the little things he does that blow me away like drawing the penalty on Reilly by simply skating right at him.

This has been debunked and explained many times...

On another note... anyone show me a better Player in the League not playing 5 vs 3 or NOT out Late in game with empty netter..
Playing PP2
Playing 14-18 Min.
Anyone? Anyone in the NHL?

Without Laine on the PP notice Ehlers( and Fefe too) likes to occupy left side of circle and scoring from there. They made a few PP snipes from where Laine used to be

Do you have a source for this? I'm not disputing it I honestly just haven't heard that this has been debunked and would love a source to verify that with.

Here: Roslovic wants respect of a veteran ... Ehlers declines job on first power-play unit ... Lowry says he won't change | Winnipeg Sun

Plenty of discussion on the boards about how Ehlers may have construed this offer as a bit of a poisoned chalice given his skills and strengths:

Another interesting note coming out of the San Jose post-game yak sessions was the revelation from Maurice that Ehlers turned down a spot on the No. 1 power-play unit.
“Nikolaj didn’t want to be there,” Maurice said. “That’s not a negative thing. He would prefer to run downhill on his natural side on the other unit.”

A day earlier, Maurice had said Ehlers would take a front-line spot on the No. 1 unit as a reward. He’s the team’s leading scorer, after all.

“And then the power-play guys talked and Nikky came back and said, ‘I prefer to be on the other unit on my natural side.’ It happens,” Maurice said. “Everybody by the time they get to the NHL is usually fairly specific about what they’re good at on the power play.

“Not a lot of guys want to work the slot, anyway. That’s the dark hole there.”

Ehlers is playing half a minute more on the PP so far this season than he has done in previous seasons, and I'm guessing that the 2nd unit's ice time has been even higher with PLD on there. They still play less, but they're an actual scoring danger we're throwing out there now. I don't mind having him on the 2nd unit if that means we're not boned if our 1st unit isn't clicking.

Edit: I was looking at Pionk's TOI. Whoops.

Yup. Terrible false 'promotion' : "You can be rewarded with PP1 because of your play, but I'll ONLY put you in the position that is the least suited to your skills and abilities." A bullshit Mau move.

You’re right....the Jets should have completely changed their 1PP to accommodate Ehlers because he was having a good run of games....that is the obvious thing that should have happened.
