After reading these posts, I'm discouraged that Ehlers likely will not play. I don't think we can beat Vegas without him in the lineup, although we dominated them in Game 1 without him. I guess it's possible to win, but having Nik in the lineup would be big for the Jets.

I think he took a shoulder to the ribs, and as he said he got the wind knocked out of him, but very likely has bruised ribs, or some kind of strained ligaments in the chest area. If we somehow can knock Vegas off "without him" -- I sure hope he'll be back for the next series.

Yup, seems to play into the whole gamesmanship theory I had.

He's in a contact sweater nut not actually allowed to take a y contact. It sounds like he really should have been in a red sweater last week.
Could this not be a dealing with a concussion, he tries exerting himself in practice and then see's how he is feeling ? Would explain doctor's clearance.

Maybe. But if he can't take contact due to a head injury he should be in a red jersey. You can't mess with those imo.

That’s what I’ve been thinking. Never mind F*ck Vegas, F*CK Minnesota. That bastard Hartman is living it up playing while Ehlers sits on the sidelines.

DoPS needs an overhaul and needs to start punishing the players much harsher.

Ya i agree but Bowness did say that players were instructed not to touch Ehlers during practice. I just have that replay of Ehlers holding his head as he went to the bench going around in my head.

Could be a whiplash or shoulder injury...he feels better for a bit but once he starts practicing things stiffen up.

That was already addressed, something about him trying to catch his breath

I don't think it is a concussion. Here is the NHL concussion protocol for this season.

Definitely would be nice to get both Ehlers and Perfetti back… two top six wingers. With Nino and Stinkoff, we have some pretty amazing depth when those two are back from injury.

Absolutely

Sounds like no Ehlers for game 3 per John Shannon.

I just hope we can weather the first round. A worst case scenario for me would be to have no Ehlers in round one and then get bounced; meanwhile Hartman gets scot free for a dirty hit and continues to hit dirty is just a wrong feeling

Def need to be more than 1 game to Hartmann for that dirty hit, they are way too lenient on the punishment for these types of hits, just because PO is coming.

Vegas will target him for sure, hopefully his body heals fast, with JoMo out the offense will probably dry up

My feeling is that his injury is to his chest wall, sternum or ribs. He can skate fine but is still not able to take contact. He put his arms behind his head to relieve the pain in his chest.
Yeah I'm thinking bruised ribs too. So damned painful, and when you start breathing heavy it can get bad really quickly.

Add to that the risk of aggravating it even through incidental contact is high, it all aligns with what we're seeing and hearing.

I think if it got desperate they could freeze him, as long as there's no structural damage or fracture. I really don't think they want to do that though I'd bet Fly is begging them to.

I actually admire your the org. handles injured players. I feel like they always think of them as people first which doesn't always happen in sport

Weren't you advocating after game 1 that Perfetti be kept out of the lineup even if he is healthy?

Yes, when all four lines were playing incredible, tossing in a rusty player for game 2 didn’t make sense. After games 2 and 3, with some inconsistent play and line blendering, it would make sense to inject Perfetti (if he’s healthy).

There has to be a way of suspending the offender for at least as long as the player who he injured is out of the line up. In fact, double it (ehlers missed 5 games, Hartman sirs for 10)

I realize this opens the door to various forms of f***ery but the framework of the idea is sound

I’m on neck/head. But honestly could be a mix of all of the above given the violence of the contact and the contact with the ground unbraced.

It’s hard when heading into playoffs so can’t really judge severity of injury in games lost…say the Jets go out here and Minni is in the CF 10 games from now.

But that wasn’t a 1 gamer if anyone is serious about taking unnecessary concussion causing hits out of the game.

Crazy how Ehlers could say he’s ready to go, yet he hasn’t played a game nor joined for practice. Must have been some mind games going on,

Ehlers is a prime example of why I wish the league would make someone who intentionally (or at least seemingly intentionally) injures an opponent should not play again until the injured player is back in the lineup on his team. I know that it's not feasible or even reasonable, but a guy can dream, can't he?
