1. I think it is safe to say Gio might not play another meaningful game for the Leafs. As I really think this move is related to Gio getting hurt.
2. Added size in the backend with Boosh and Edmundson and both players are young and cheap enough to sign a 3-4yrs deal on reasonable and affordable contract from the Leafs. So they might not be pure rentals.
3. These two are sandpaper that the Leafs lacked over the past few seasons and both of them didn't cost them a 1st or 2nd rounder.
4. Pretty sure they are showcasing Gregor for a late round pick trade.

Anyone who stands in front of the net with this guy is getting crosschecked to death. He's the exact playoff depth you need on the bottom pair

He does in the playoffs, so while I'd rather he play the same way in the regular season, whatever.

Funny to see how Treliving pivoted from blowing all that cash on Klingberg to getting all the tall guys. We'll see how that works out what with the history of Leafs D (save Rielly) being unable to transition the puck in the playoffs and all of the offense drying up.
Bertuzzi was more and they still managed to sign Domi John K is 6 3 so only really 2 inch difference and then there is Benoit who might be the best deal of all 4 so now that's just a fluke? So nothing to suggest he wasn't going for a tall Blueline.

I don't know much about this guy besides second hand opinions, similarly to 99% of you.

How about we let him play some games and see how his skillset settles in with what we need.

Great pick-up by Tre!
Adds some sand paper to the back end that everyone is always clamoring for. And he's a proven winner. For minimal return. Great move.
Leafs getting harder to play against with the recent additions.

Lots of questions about how he fits in...

I suspect that the ideal fit is something along the lines of:

Rielly-Lyubushkin
McCabe-Brodie
Edmundson-Liljegren

Get a little bit of puckmoving ability on all 3 pairs, as well as a litte bit of nastiness throughout the lineup.

That’s not a playoff D core any way you try to rationalize it

a scoring winger for JT if he's staying on the third line is more important then another depth dmen we already have when healthy Rielly, Brodie, McCabe, Giordano, Liljegren, Boosh, Timmins, Lagesson, Benoit. so nine guys this makes no sense unless it's for like a 6th rounder or something

Edit: so we had 3 picks going into the year in 24 and 25 in the top 3 rounds now we have 1 don't like either trade right now
No worries bro, gonna get a shitload when we move the games greatest errr I mean the soon to be highest paid of the leagues players

If you get a chance to listen to his interview post game you should, will make you smile. So excited to be here, has zero worries about the right side and said he can't wait for the playoffs, that's where he plays his best hockey and he loves making forwards pay. He still has game this guy, I suspect he's a solid add here.

I love how he talks like he wants to mix it up. Had that smirk like he wants to get into the scrum. If it works out he could be a Schenn type personality for us. I just hope between he and Boosh they fit properly and we can keep them around just so we don’t waste picks solving things temporarily.

He’s comes into the playoffs with confidence in himself, not self doubt. Cant’t hurt.

It's a playoff D core, but it's not one that's going to take us very far.

Ultimately, I think that this trade will likely go down as a mistake. This isn't the Leafs year, and neither is next year. If they think they can win with the 3 amigos, they're going to have to figure out how to do so without much of a supporting cast up front.

This (and all past) deadlines should show the importance of building from the top-down, and how you cannot rebuild a D at the deadline. Go into next year giving Cowan, Minten, Robertson, Knies, McMann all roster spots. Focus the limited money you have on quality D, instead of quantity.

A playoff D Core with Morgan Reilly as it's #1 will never win a Stanley cup. You can get 6 Morgan Reillys and won't win a cup. This team has so so so many flaws. After it's early demise these playoffs organization needs an overhaul. Shanahan, Keefe, Treliving out, Tavares, Marner, Reilly out. Other teams make these types of moves why can't the Leafs? They need someone with balls to take over.

I'm not sure what the plan for this team is but the signs aren't promising. Lilly welcome to the press box just to get another LHD that doesn't help. A 3rd and 5th isn't cheap either.
A LHD that doesn't help? He's better defensively then any left handed d-man we have. Who's better then him? Brodie? No. Rielly? No. McCabe? No. Beniot? No.

LIljegren isn't anything special so I don't understand why him not playing is a problem... He's small, doesn't hit, easy to box out and win the puck off of, not strong or tough at all, can't move anyone away from the front of the net, is just going to get decked all game in the playoffs and not do anything about it and be scared to touch the puck on the boards every shift and throw out give aways out of fear of being hit.

McCabe is better but I agree with you. Too many people ignore that it’s guys like him that excel in playoff style hockey.
Rielly is going to get his minutes even though he sucks in his own end. Bushy, McCabe and Edmundson are guys you want defending your zone in tighter , tougher , playoff action.
Also, he has said he has no issues on his offside.
this move may have impact beyond what folks are predicting.
And I am not a Leaf fan.

Problem is as long a 34 is here, they are not taking a step back to take two forward. I'd rather they sold their pending UFAs this year than add two bottom pair dmen only to make a quick exit to their cottages and the golf course. Prove me wrong boyz.

While I think this was a good move I will admit my opinion was/is they should have sat tight, maybe even been a seller.
Let a few bad deals (Tavares) fall off the books then go for it.
