Derek Stepan has 7 points in 18 games.

7.

7.

Desharnais has more points.

Shattenkirk is more than double that output.

Honestly, even if Shatty wasnt doing well, and if ADA and Lias situation turned out exactly the same..i Still probably trade Stepan (tho maybe not for that package)

Stepan has started slowly before and he's playing for the worst team in the league.

Shattenkirk is the biggest reason the PP is so awesome...its not just that hes moving the puck with ridiculous passes..its that hes a legit threat to score from the point at any time...with wrist shots thanks to that HUGE underachiever Chris Kreider taking away the goalies eyes the entire time.

Shatty has been ridiculous...give Buch and Zib all the credit, theyve been great, but it all starts with Shattenkirk...passing, shooting, regrouping, holding clears in...just absolutely ridiculous how good hes been.
I was gonna say, true Kreider isn't putting up big numbers, but I watch him in front of the other teams' goalies and he does a fantastic job of taking away their eyes and him being so good at that on the PP especially is a huge reason why it's been so good. Kreider really has evolved as a net front presence and he's fantastic at using his strength to get to the front and then at actually effectively screening the goalie.

The trade paid off regardless of how well Step is doing down there. The team's offense is still near the top of the league. With DJ Zbad or w/e his new music name is taking the #1C spot and running with it, I don't think this team really misses Step's on-ice play.

What really tickles me is that Desharnais has more points than Galchenyuk and Plekanec.

Question to people who understand the game better than me. Was Buch's goal an example of bad D on the PK or Buch just finding an open spot on the ice in perfect position? Both?

No, not defense, but it was excellent moving & passing by Zucc & Shattenkirk - Talbot never had the chance to move sideways - the puck went too fast so Buch had an open net almost.

Hayes isn't that effective on the PP.

We have McDonagh and Skjei, as well as Vesey on the PP. He's better than those guys on the PP.

PP2 should be McDonagh, Hayes, Miller, Nash and Desharnais. Hayes and Desharnais the half walls, Nash the front of the net, McDonagh and Miller the point. If another player is needed for the PP for some reason, we add Skjei as a second defensemen.

A huge goal by our 2nd PP unit - Skjei looking so promising! And Nash just had to hold his stick on the ice.

I believe we should go for two new lines vs Hawks on wednesday.

Nash - Zib - Buch
Kreider - Miller - Zucc
Vesey - Hayes - Grabner
David D - Nieves - Fast

- Nash 1st #pick 1st overall is hot 2 goals he will get the Zib line going and use his experience for all it`s worth.
AV need to consider to get Kreider hot? How? Well use him with Zucc & Miller, let`s do it,
Let`s go!!!

I actually dig those lines @Ori. I was tninking about moving Kreider down a line myself the other day. It's incredibly hard to break up the KZB unit, but I think putting Kreider and Zuccarello together would help spread out our depth tremendously. At least until/if Chytil is brought back. I would bet on the Zib-Buch combo being lethal with nearly any winger as the third wheel.

Although, I'd make one little adjustment to your lines and swap Fast-Grabner.

Yes, no doubts that Zib & Buch have great chemistry together as on the PP unit as well, but Kreider is better with Zucc from previous seasons and they usually find each other on the ice, and same with JT Miller.

Hayes always pass - it surprised Zucc last night, and Grabner is more used to finish since he played with Hayes last season.

Miller & Kreider like to finsih plays - so get them together with Zucc to set them both up in different situations, and that`s my reasoning to use them together as a line since AV use Miller & Zucc usually together 4 v 4 or 3 v 3.
*Vesey enjoy finishing too - he mentioned that in an interview earlier and he has some confidence now for sure.

We need to get a 2c in here to center those two, move Hayes down between Miller and Vesey, and get Desharnais into the super-13th forward where he belongs... effectively filling in anywhere.

Don't move Hayes ever again, that line is doing really well. Insulating Hayes by putting Nash and Zuke on his wings while keeping his OZS/DZS split at ~50% is working like a charm, let's not mess with that.

Like seriously, AV likes Hayes as the shutdown guy for some reason, we've finally find a spot where Hayes isn't a black hole shot metrics wise, can we please just keep him in that spot?

Hayes has had a really fine season and doesn't have as many points as he's deserved.
2nd the notion. In a very quiet way, he really is. Added defensive responsibility and "like you said" not getting on the scoreboard as often as he should be. Just use Zuccha's 2 consecutive great opps as an example. Kevin has been setting up teammates with the mastery that only Zuccha and Zbad can do.

It should be pointed out that the Rangers have played 18 games and only 5 of them have been on the road.
Noticed that earlier. Doesn't matter, over the last 5 years we have the BEST road record in the league (I am 99% sure of that).
This team needed time to gel, and playing too many home games early on......didn't help. Not enough focus WITH THEIR JOBS on the ice.....too much family and free time to "play". Lol.
If I had my druthers, we would do a Western swing or California trip to start each season.

First Line:

Zibanejad playing at an 80 point pace.
Buchnevich around a 70 point pace.
Kreider below a 40 point pace.
Wonder how Nash would do on that line for Kreids. Nasher would light it up like he has been. Probably not enough pucks on the ice though, for all of them. Lol

I think the Florida trip came at a perfect time. The team had been struggling, but was coming off a highly emotional win against Vegas on Halloween. The road trip let them focus and convert that positive energy into better play. In some ways, once they beat Tampa in the next game, the next 4 were almost predictable.

Group dynamics are interesting like that.

The best deterrent for shenanigans against your players is a lethal PP. It's great having a strong PP. It's been so long since we had it.
Trautwig stated something like "oh that PP, I don't remember when the Rangers have had a PP that looked like that"! Unfortunately he has a VERY GOOD memory, and yeah, it's been about 10 years, I a reckon if not longer.

Man, I love Stepan but that trade was awesome just for the cap space we got for Shattenkirk. He isn't great in his own zone, but his offensive play is better than 75% of the forwards playing in the NHL today.
In a nutshell......THAT is why the PP looks like it does. Shatty ≥≥≥ Stepan. A no brainier.

Yeah, he said he considers himself a goal scorer. Hmmmm, okay then......go ahead and score much more. Be my guest!

Things couldn't possibly have looked worse, when down 2-4 to Vegas at the end of 2 periods. They took advantage of a tired "weak expansion team", but when they took that result and did what they did in Tampa......really did the trick.

I knew they would, just knew it.
