I got him off waivers 2 years ago because I thought he was fantastic and sold for a 1st early this season after setting that asking price for the last year. LFG.dang it, walman's been great in my fantasy league this season and that's about to dry up
This alone should get him fired. What a terrible evaluation of assets.Remember when Steve Y paid a 2nd to get rid of him?
What an idiot
Its a great move by Grier and not arguing Yzerman didn't get shiet value. Just simply Walman doesn't stick around teams for whatever reason that may be...
What a horrible take.
GMMG traded him because his value is high. Incase you haven’t noticed, the rebuild process revolves around picks. As such, the Sharks are doing their best (and doing it well) to propel players past their market value. Buy low sell high.
This is one of several fantastic plays by GMMG.
Wally isn’t in our future. He’s 29 and an RFA next season.
He did his job here, perform, and GMMG is doing his by shipping him to a legit contender while brining in draft capital.
Brilliant.
Walman is not young and he's not a top 4 defenseman. Downplay the off-ice issues all you want but the fact remains he's been healthy scratched by multiple teams in the last 12 months for failing to follow injury rehab protocol. He was traded by St Louis as a former 3rd round tweener playing 6th/7th D as a part of a bigger package. That doesn’t really mean much, those types of guys get moved around the league all the time.
There were reports of something not fitting in Detroit but from what we’ve heard since then it sounds like it was just your run of the mill “young guy doesn’t take things quite as seriously as the team would like.” Is that such a problem that you’ve got to pay someone to take a young top four D off your hands? Only Stevie Y knows for sure.
Yzerman paid a 2nd to rid him out of the locker-room immediately. Something toxic happened and Yzerman had to cure the cancer, he paid a 2nd for the cure.
DRWs captain, Dylan Larkin, talked about this in an interview.
Wings were 9th in the East last year and are 10th this year.
Maybe Walman wasn't the issue? Maybe it's the leadership?
Oilers are going to die on the stuart skinner hill unfortunately. Or fortunately for other teamsIn a vacuum, I don’t think it’s a great move to solve the Oilers woes and it takes one of their big trade chips off the table, even if Walman undoubtedly improves the usage of some of their blueline minutes.
That said, I’d wait and see how they finish off this deadline. If they grab a goalie and maybe a tough, stay at home veteran RHD…I think maybe a stronger picture will emerge of how pieces like Frederic and Walman fit in.
I definitely think there is more to do in Edmonton in the final hours.
Weird rebuttal. Wings just had a coaching change since then are the hottest team in the entire NHL.
Yzerman fixed two issues:
- Traded away cancer (Walman) while not losing a pick - freebie/throw in from upgrading to a better prospect trade.
- Hired a great coach (TM most likely wins coach of the year if DRWs make the playoffs)
Everyone was very confused why Detroit would pay a 2nd to dump him. They didn't even ask around the League, just quickly rushed into dumping him.Is this not an unbeleivable set of moves by Mike Grier here?
Trades for Jake Walman on June 25th, with a 2nd Round Pick for nothing
8 Months later, trades Walman to the Oilers for Carl Berglund and a 1st Round Pick.
Basically acquires a 1st, 2nd, and Carl Berglund (who is probably nothing) for paying Walman for 3/4 of the season....
Looked pretty good on paper based on what they had done previously. Has Walman been a good player for Oilers?Have those been good players for DET?
Weird rebuttal. They are under .500 in their last 10 games and have lost 4 in a row. They only won TWO games in regulation in February.
They are done.
Evason will will coach of the year for what he's done in Columbus. They were supposed to battle the Sharks as the worst team and they are better than Detroit.
