Miles better..? Yea OK, not being a homer???

I get that losing so much has affected your ability to think and communicate but I'm hoping your team wins for your sanity. Yikes!

The Sabres might have the second worst D in the league, but the honor belongs to you next season.

Like I said, you haven't addressed any of the points I made, basically spouted a bunch of homer statements.

I clearly don't have a crystal ball to make any conclusions but you apparently do.

The season hasn't started yet so I have no clue what you're basing any of your reasoning on other than descriptions of random players with no names attached.

It's baffling to see random fans having insights on teams they don't even follow. Your opinions, they don't mean much tbh.

We need no crystal ball to see Ceci's past (which I, and many others in the Atlantic, have watched plenty); or to see that Keith is done and has been done for 2 years.

You're right. I mean, Ceci doesn't have the ability to bounce back. Once a player is on the decline they'll continue to do so even at the age of 27. No growth or change in their game. /s

He's fine as bottom pairing. You haven't seen him play in Edmonton yet with Tippett's system. So you can continue to assume or read off your crystal ball I guess.

Keith was carrying a bunch of rookies (forwards and D) on a bad Hawks team going to a better team and playing 2nd pairing with less TOI. He's not forced to play tougher oppositions. Nurse is top pairing and will be taking the harder match ups. We've seen many Norris trophy winners play into their 40s. You assume Keith is done based on what?? Age? Or did your crystal ball tell you he's done as player? Or do you mean he's done in Chicago?

The defence as a whole took a step back losing Larsson. Ceci for Bear is a wash. The forward group is much improved with the addition of Hyman, Foegele, and Ryan. The right side defence looks brutal but each pair is partnered with capable puck moving Ds. Moving the puck up ice to the forwards and sustaining pressure and generating chances in the Ozone is more ideal with how the D and forward group is structured. Defence is done by committee, that means the forwards have to support the D in the Dzone and we have the forwards to do this.

You don't watch or follow the Oilers to understand how they play. And no, the Sabres D is not 'miles' better than the Oilers. The Oilers finished 2nd in their division twice in a row. They're a lock to be behind Vegas. Sabres neither have the forward, D, or goalie to even compete lol Enjoy watching the tire fire in Buffalo.

Was Matheson a factor in that too or has he bounced back?

Eh, Matheson's kind of iffy in his own zone. But he was overall a net positive this year because of his ability to transition the puck from defense to offense. Ceci's fall in the second half was more on Ceci than anything his D partner did.

Overall, Ceci's just not a guy who should be getting second pairing minutes or 20+ minutes per game. He's dependable as long as he's getting softer minutes on the third pairing, but the Pens ended up using him like a #4 a lot of the season, and I think that started to show in his play.

Fair enough. I think he will probably start the year with Keith on the second pairing with the hope that Bouchard takes it from him by mid season, which is possible.
So as long as he can play well for the first half of the season we should be fine

Sabres are bad, and will be bad next year, including the terrible D.

I on other hand, have the benefit of not being a homer. The Oiler's D on the other hand, will be catastrophically bad.

Like I said, you basically have one NHL level complete D-man. Another highly 1 dimensional PP specialist. And then a bunch of pieces that don't belong in the league. Keith is done, and has been since 2019; you guys basically paid to buy a name back. You really got taken to the back of the wood shed by Chicago in that deal. Then you have probably one of the worst D-men in the NHL for the last 15 years, signed to a 4 year substantial deal. Then you have a bunch of journeymen and rookies.

There is basically no redeeming quality in the Oilers' D next year. Playoff is going to be very dicey for you guys, even with McDrai, let alone doing anything meaningful in the post-season.

This shit is galaxy-brain dumb. Wow.

I think this nails it. I will say that I was a little more impressed with Ceci's offense than I expected to be.

Smith deserved the Vezina and Nurse the Norris last year because the Oilers D was fairly comparable, maybe even worse last year.

Yet the Oilers finished in the top 10 for lowest goals against in the league.

The D to start last year was

Nurse Barrie
Jones Larsson (disaster together)
Koekkoek Bear

Jones and Bear had bad seasons so you can't say they some how carried the team, Koekkoek was not very good either before getting hurt. Larsson was OK but barely above water at a +2 rating only.

You guys lost Risto, McCabe, and Montour from the back end and they got downgraded by a bunch of randoms to fill on D.

Reinhart traded to division rival FLA. Eichel is MIA injured.

It'll be another decade or 2 before Buffalo becomes relevant again.

It was actually somehow worse than that. It was game 4 versus Columbus and Toronto just completed their crazy 3 goal comeback to save their season. In OT the puck was passed to Ceci who somehow missed so badly no one could believe it. It may have been worse than any other NHL shot I've seen. My heart was beating out of my chest since our season was on the line but I still ended up dying of laughter at how bad he missed lmao.

This ain't a guy you give this kind of contract to. 3rd pair at best

This is it. I found it. I had the exact same reaction. Tense moment yet I couldn’t help but burst into laughter

Jesus, imagine being stuck with this guy for more than 1 season. His one season in Toronto couldn't end fast enough for me.
Yeah, Ceci is bad. I can not believe Edmonton handed out that contract to him. Mind boggling.

Can't wait to kick your nuts even though we don't have Danault anymore to neuter McDrai, don't know how but we'll try like we're tough and better
