Not much of a rivalry, Edmonton should be a contender and Vancouver should be a playoff hopeful/middling team.
There is more to a rivalry though, no ? Habs and Bruins for a while, not like Habs were as good as the Bruins

With how heavily reliant Draisiatl is on McDavid, the contract will always be good unless McDavid leaves (he won’t). Draisaitl thrives on being the second man to cover without being “the guy”

That's a lot for someone who relies on another player.

Are you still happy with it if McDavid leaves?

Sounds like a fun life.

Can you do me a favour and "snip" how effective he is defensively at 5v5, specifically in the playoffs... assuming with that many points he must be helping his team win a lot at 5v5.

Over the last three playoffs:

At 5v5: 59 vs 50
On PP: 48 vs 1
On PK: 1 vs 4

TOTAL: 117 vs 72

All strengths matter in the win column (and Drai is an excellent PKer, in addition to his more obvious PP success)

Your defence is mid at best, if not in the lower half of the league. Ekholm is a solid top 2 D-man, but I think he will decline after this season. Bouchard is getting carried by Ekholm and is great on the PP, but if this guy is your #1 you won't be winning the cup, as his defensive game still needs a lot of work. Nurse is overpaid as we all know, and is more of a #4 at this stage. Kulak is an ok #5 and a solid #6 D-man. Emberson is still a big question mark and Idk if he is a legitimate top 4 D-man.

Stecher / Brown weren't good on a lowly Yotes team, idk how this is going to change on the Oilers...These guys are what they are. Depth D who can fill in.
Ekholm and Bouchard are a very good top pair. The results speak for themselves. There's nothing mid about how they played last year, and no reason to expect that they won't play well again this year. We're talking about this year, not 2 or 3 years down the road. We will need an Ekholm replacement eventually as he ages, but let's not get too far ahead of ourselves, we're talking about this year.

Nurse is overpaid, yes, but his play will dictate by just how much moving forward. He's had some years where he is only slightly overpaid, and some where he was pretty bad and was worth half his contract. His partner, whoever that ends up being, is our biggest hole, and the area of biggest concern on our roster.

Kulak is among the best bottom pair defensemen in the league. Again, the results speak for themselves with that. Suggesting he is an "ok" #5 is selling him short.

Emberson is a question mark, you are correct about that. There are reasons to feel optimistic though, he had injuries, but his advanced stats with the Sharks are very good compared to his teammates, so there might be a player there. He would slide on to our 3rd pair in an ideal world, but he may get a look beside Nurse to start the year to see if he can fix that hole for cheap.

Stecher is a good #7, who can fill in as a #6. He's been around long enough that everyone knows what he is - depth that can play every day, but probably shouldn't. He'll start the year as our #6, but I don't expect he will be in that spot come playoff time. And he's a fine #7 for a playoff team.

Brown isn't good. I didn't like that signing, and I hope that sooner than later, he ends up on his way to the AHL. I suspect he was signed for that role - that's the only explanation for his cap hit and term - that they signed him for a bit longer and bit higher than he should have earned, in hopes that it deters teams from picking him off of waivers.

So it comes down to what I said in the post you quoted - we have one hole, and are filling that one spot away from having a very good defense core. The results of the blueline that we had last year after the Oilers horrendous start were pretty impressive, and the only key piece to that group that we lost, we had to improve upon anyway in Ceci. We also don't need that hole filled on day one, as long as we fill it before the playoffs, I am happy. If Emberson doesn't work, we need another bottom pair guy, but I'm not worried about finding one of those, there will be a bunch of #6 defensemen available at the deadline, just like every other year. It's that 2nd pair RD that is the issue right now.

Good news is that likely means McDavid is staying. Bad news is, I think they are going to regret it.

So you knocked him for his 5v5 production and pointed to his power play production. Then when you were shown you were wrong about his even strength production you pivoted to his even strength production is irrelevant.

Solid.
Ask him to do penalty killing next between him and Matthews

Perhaps if they continue to meet in the playoffs, but I don’t see it as a rivalry currently.

This all but guarantees that just McDrai will be eating up 30 to 32 million of cap space.

lol.
Cap will be 96mil or higher when McDavid's contract kicks in, and will likely be closer to 110mil by the time his contract is 3 years old. It's kind of comical that people choose to ignore projected cap when looking at newly signed deals. You guys say this same shit about every big deal signed.

meanwhile Ottawa's 80 million dollar roster can't get into the playoffs

replace them with most other teams top 2 players and oh man they make that team a scary team

so basically the oilers got one more shot next season and then comes the decline, because we all know Bouchard is getting at least 8 mill, prob closer to 9.
