Only way I see this working is if a first is coming back to Detroit. Edmonton should only consider sending their first if it also includes offloading Lucic. Detroit probably asks for Poolparty to be included as well, if that's the case. AA is much further along the development curve than the first round pick Edmonton is likely to get this year, has another year left on his current (cheap) deal and is cost controlled at end of it too. Edmonton needs to be offloading salary if they are giving up assets and Detroit will have cap room to spare to take on the albatross that is Lucic's deal. Detroit would likely need more in order to sweeten the pot so one of Edmonton's higher tier prospects probably gets thrown in as well.

But in regards to OPs deal, it is trash and Detroit hangs up the phone.

Scouting report on Bear? I'd rather go after Faulk in a trade but who knows
Shorter but heavy/stocky offensive RHD with a cannon of a shot. Has one the hardest and best wrist shots I've seen, along with quite the slapshot/ 1-timer. Needs to work on skating in my opinion and defensive positioning (although apparently, this has improved a lot this season in the AHL). Did surprisingly well in his short stint with the Oilers last season. Hockey IQ and Shot are his clear strengths.

Realistic Potential is 2nd pairing d-man who can quarterback a 1st unit PP. Floor is a 3rd pairing dman who can chip in offensively.

I really like Bear as a prospect, but he isn't as unique in the Oilers system as he once was now that we drafted Bouchard.
I would move him in a fair deal, but as with most B prospects, I would assume he has more value to the Oilers than most other teams. Only 1 of 5 Oilers prospects with real potential imo.

Honestly, if he pans out, I think Faulk is a VERY good comparable.

Lol no way Detroit does this

Edit: can’t wait for the oilers fans to come and say how much athansiou sucks and how much potential bear has and that this is more than fair

I mean sure a team is going to trade their fast top 6 winger who is breaking out this season for a bunch if meh just to help the oilers out.

Bouchard isn’t going anywhere if Athanasiou is the main piece coming back.
Can't say I blame you. But while I don't personally have anything against the Oilers, their squandering of so many high draft picks has led to a reputation where teams aren't lining up to help them out of the cap crunch their currently in.

So maybe there's no chance at this particular overpayment. But odds are good that it will require SOME sort of overpayment.

I’m not sure I understand this. So if Puljujarvi was better right now, teams would be willing to take salary off their hands?

The truth is, we have no idea what reputation the Oilers or any other team has in the NHL and what current GMs are or aren’t willing to do. I would imagine “favors” are pretty far down the list for any GM.

I'm saying that Edmonton is the one in need, so whomever they trade with will have the leverage, because the other team likely isn't up against the cap with a ticking clock, while trying to find a new GM.

Last year AA was struggling more, and the coaches/management were not happy with his effort level. That was the window needed to pry AA out of Detroit.

Sadly (for other teams)... AA has proven himself more consistent and gotten himself back into the good graces of the team.

Not for Sale anymore.

They would? Why? Why would any team overpay for AA? I think if he gets moved it would be for a fair trade, no?

Why in the world are they trading him? Wings aren't starting their 2nd rebuild. Wings are also fun to watch for the first time in about 5 years and finally are starting to have an identity, and that's speed, speed, speed and fast. AA is a HUGE part of that.

I don't see any reason why Detroit would want to trade one of their young player that is finally breaking out and looks like a faster skater than Larkin and McDavid.

What's the point? Do Wings need to start another rebuild already?

Because he's not available, He's part of our future core moving forward. Hence overpay. Even from what Dreger heard from Wing insiders AA would be expensive to acquire.

The ask might be an overpay from that perspective, but no team in the league is going to overpay for AA. Not even Edmonton who is desperate for a scoring winger. He is having a career year, that's true. He's on pace for what, 55 points? I guess I reserve "massive overpay" for elite players like Stone who would command a high price from Ottawa even if just a rental.

Only my opinion. I don't see Edmonton dealing the kinds of pieces being asked for here.
