Confirmed Signing with Link: [EDM] D John Klingberg signs with the Oilers (1 year, $1M prorated salary + $350k signing bonus)

From that PoV ur not wrong , but does the oilers really need offensive dmen?
Outside of Bouchard, nobody is very good at transitioning the puck. So yes, this was a need. Edmonton has some really good players in their bottom 6 this year, having a guy that can maybe result in some offence for them is a big plus. Also, it's not like Josh Brown or Stecher are defensive stalwarts and we are still top 8 in GA/GP.

Good for Edmonton.

No asset cost and no downside risk.

A little bit of upside and insurance to boot. You can't go wrong here.

If you had told me he had been playing in Edmonton for the last three years I wouldn’t have even looked it up. Sounds right.

Oh wow, Edmonton Media thinking this is 2RD solution.. oh boy.

For all of you that hate Nurse... I'd just like to point out his D partners in the last 4 years. There are 700 of them and they all are not Top 4 D.lol

This is like going to a Talize to find a Prom Dress if that is the actual thinking.

Seems redundant
Can never have enough potential pylons. I mean...what happens if one of the other "orange cones" goes down with an injury?

Oh Spector...you're roller-coaster act of love-hate for the Oilers is unprecedented.

a free RHD who can skate, move the puck and bring offensive impact in this NHL economy?

can't wait to see the copium in this thread
Well there's just the small matter that he stinks. Even when he was last "good" in 21-22, he was horrendous defensively.

Typical Edmonton going for a half measure instead of really going for it.

THIS

I'm fine if this is for the 5/6/7 carousel of players we have on D. No problem.. pick the best 3. Have 2 more eating nachos. But I'm already seeing how we will combine things and frankenstein 2 guys into 1 player.lol

If we have a lead... we will send out Emberson/Kulak/Stecher with Nurse at 2RD.
If we are losing.. we will send out Gus with Nurse.

Franken2Dstein coming up!

Weird, I didn't know the trade deadline apparently past already :skeptic:?
Klingberg's contract is cheap and easily buriable whether he pans out or not.
Signing him doesn't mean the Oilers are done either.
Typical HF hiveminds with their lame narratives.

It's a pattern, not a lame narrative. Ten years in and the only meaningful deadline deal they ever did was Ekholm.

Oilers really doubling down on now caring if their blueliners can play defence. They really need another NHLer other than Ekholm, not a pylon who belonged in the AHL before he got injured. This signing is great for the rest of the Pacific.

Honestly 1 through 6, all of the Oilers' defencemen transition the puck very well. It's just most of them don't have much creativity with it and you just get a lot of safe plays. (Not a bad thing)

IF healthy, Klingberg actually gives them someone that's can walk the line effectively and control the play from the offensive blueline in a way even Bouchard can't.

...will you give it up; yes, I was being almost as facetious as you were when I posted that I wouldn't put him in the Top 30...cuz he's certainly not Top 10, like you kept harping on; hell, he isn't even the best Defensive Dman on his own team...so take off the rose-coloured glasses and get some air... 🤣 :thumbu: 🤣

...nope, didn't say shyte to any Mod; why would you even post that lie??...
This year, he has probably been the best defensive defenseman on our team, just so you are aware. He's been that good.

EDIT - Are you saying that we shouldn't be waiting for a list from you?

...again, I disagree, which is MY opinion...he's been better than he was, but Ekholm has still been your best, imo by a lot...and YES, like I told that other poster, I HAVE watched every Edmonton game this year but three...

Weird, I didn't know Ken Holland was the Oilers GM still.
They have money to spend this time with Kane being out on LTIR.

LOL? Out of every fan in the league, you as a nuck fan shouldn't even be attempting to chirp nonsense.
How's Petey and Miller doing? Your team is behind a rebulding flames team also, how f***ing sad.

Nice defensive lines the canucks have.
2nd pair:Derek fricken Forbort and Myers
3rd pair: Soucy and Desharnais

Holy shit, garbage!
And those guys are still better than the trash Edmonton calls a blueline.

So when you see all the tweets saying he counts for 1M on the cap and will not inhibit deadline moves, do you just choose to ignore them?

Well I mean, Oilers goalies suck, defense sucks.
So I assume every team that allows more goals than them must suck too.
That's a handful.
