IMO a good deal. Fits a need for the Oilers and 4.1mil is a good hit.
Oilers have 2 more years of McDavid, currently, I doubt they care about years 3-5 if McDavid wants out if they fail to win within the next 2 years.

Veteran right handed defensive, defenseman, reliable, tough physical. Yes the five years is probably two years too long, but the AAV is more than good. Solid deal for Edmonton.

They have needed a defenseman like Murphy for a decade. They are competing now. Could this age poorly? Yep, absolutely. It probably will. But this is a pretty risk free signing for the time period the Oilers are wanting to be contenders.

Murphy and Dickinson are great gets. Edmonton is going all-in this season. This is it, if they don't win these next 2 seasons, all of this was for nothing

Great gets? Murphy is decent but unless Dickinson has done a 180 from his time in Vancouver, he sucks.

I get further moves can be made to clear cap but they have seven million in cap with some very glaring holes in all three areas.

I try not to hate on the oilers, I actually like a lot of their fans and respect the hell out of #97 for taking less money and being loyal but man Stan should have been fired awhile ago.

Its more the age thats the issue. At his age, his play could fall off a cliff halfway through the first year of the deal. Its not a lock, but its not an outlandish possibility either.

The cap is going up huge for the next few years. When Murphy regresses to bottom pair D status, it won't be as big of a deal.

Dickinson has been one of the best PKers in the NHL and just had a great playoff showing or EDM

Decent AAV for the mid pair, longer term but really this is more like a 3 year deal, traded in the 4th year I suspect.

Unless Kucherov is coming to Toronto with him he isn’t repeating 70 points, and before that he was a 30ish point number 4 who somehow managed to be a minus on the Lightning. That is to say nothing of being a no-show in the playoffs.

The actual Nurse trade I expect to lose, but the win will be in the cap.

His contract is bad. He plays like a dope. But he does have a lot of playoff experience, more than pretty much any other defenceman available for his role. So, I am somewhat optimistic someone will take him. There are a lot of bad deals in this league. Really more of whether Stan can get it done, which is the biggest part of the problem IMO

yeah, but look at the season they just had w/ this team.. they were 1 win away from going to game 7 against the ducks..

these (2) signings are fine, but bigger issues are a foot... and once they trade Nurse they may have more $$ to actually address some of their core issues.. (?? maybe)
