I’d be ok with a 2nd or equivalent + Barrie for Kubalik. Even if we didn’t qualify him we open future cap space in the deal.

There’s no point discussing MAF, he’s not waiving for Edmonton.
Don’t see the hawks going for Barrie. With Jones and Murphy locked in the top two spots for the right side

Would the hawks be interested in a swap for Foegele? He’s signed for another 2 years at like 2.1m? Maybe retain on Kubalik to even out money since he’s rfa at the end of the year or adds from either side to make the money/value work? I’m not sure what Chicago’s needs are so I apologize if this is way off. I just don’t see Kassian or Barrie being even remotely appealing to Chicago, makes 0 sense.

I would guess Archibald + Benson level prospect + conditional 2nd/3rd for Kubalik

Condition being whatever we got left from Keith trade.

don't really see similarities between kubalik and athanasiou tbh, and kubalik def has some power forward characteristics, he's strong on his skates and in the corners, can skate well, not as well as athanasiou, great shot, okay defensively, a 2nd rd pick is fair value for him, any bad contracts coming back with term need to have more than a 2nd coming in return

I think he was comparing their situations not playstyles. Both struggling RFAs with a high QO.

Your beat guy at The Athletic says Chicago happily takes a 3rd for him. I doubt he gets much more than that, even with the retention.

Not a credible source

Over seas reporters are not credible see Jeff Carter signing in Switzerland as exhibit A

I trust the big 5 Bobby Mack, Leburn Freidman, Johnston and Dreger that's it.

Those are the guys, they are the connected guys

Even Seravalli hasn't gotten much right since the expansion draft.

I don't understand why Seravalli has a button on this site but not Chris Johnston

The Czech rumour being cited is from December before the Oilers signed Kane.

Kubalik is a nonstarter

Looks like this is actually pretty close to happening.

Report: Edmonton Oilers considered frontrunners in trade for Domink Kubalik

If trade materializes, Dominik Kubalik’s Blackhawks tenure will meet unsatisfying end

Does Kubalik only play LW or is he able to play RW?

Why does it matter? Puljujarvi, Hyman, Yamamoto, Foegele, and Kassian can all play RW. We're fine adding a LW.

Kane-McDavid-Puljujarvi
McLeod-Draisaitl-Hyman
Kubalik-RNH-Ryan
Foegele-Malone-Kassian
Archibald

Adding on to this, I went with those lines because McLeod and Draisaitl seem to have great chemistry, but on second thought, RNH has had great chemistry with both Hyman and Draisaitl, so we could easily stack the top-6 with something like this:

Kane-McDavid-Puljujarvi
RNH-Draisaitl-Hyman
Kubalik-McLeod-Foegele
Archibald-Malone-Kassian
Ryan

Not looking bad at all, they need secondary scoring, but they need defense and goalkeeping much more so I see why you aren't showing rest of the roster :)

Kubalik doesn't change anything on D or in net as far as I'm aware, so no point in including that. Honestly though secondary scoring hasn't been an issue for the Oil since Woodcroft took over.

Yeah, I meant it like the full roster doesn't look as good as those forward lines when excluded. And you're right, as secondary scoring is always welcome, you really do need it even less than few weeks ago... Oilers really should ignore this and look for defensive help.
