"Top prospect" must mean something different to you than it does to me.

I'm not sure why the Oilers would do the Flames the favour of taking Wideman so they could maybe sign Russell.

Because they arent being serious about Yaks value and choose to downgrade his value to the point of insulting our intelligence for another reason.

Because YOU .........'say so' ?

You have to admit, Yak is definitely outplaying Gaudreau in training camp

You seem to have taken a wrong turn. This area I see for what you, him and everyone to express their options on player values. If you expect anyone's opinion here's to go directly to a GM you are mistaken.

I'd like to hear what your value on Yak is and why. I'm not seeing much reality in what you are saying but I could be missing something.

Oh right. No one can be a top prospect unless picked 1st OA.

It would be even better if the Oilers would sign Russell

Serve up the links that say so instead of just claiming it.

Show all these 'insiders' as you claim.

lol. Why are you so mad and defensive?

Dreger:

“Now, the Oilers would tell you that it’s not like they’re asking for an exorbitant or unrealistic return. It’s a draft pick. And it’s not a first, second – and at one point they were asking for a third, but it’s probably not even that anymore.

Spector on the rumoured Chicago deal said they'd just be getting AHL players in return

CHI would send AHL player/s to EDM, and likely ask EDM to retain some of Yalupov's $2.5M salary. No deal imminent, but talks con't

And of course
Mark Spector @SportsnetSpec
Oilers fans getting a dose of reality on Yakupov's market value. It is even lower w/belief EDM wants to move before season opener.

TSN guy:

Frank Seravalli @frank_seravalli
Which team says no to Yakupov for Wideman deal? CGY retains half, gets flexibility to sign Russell. EDM gets no-risk RD whom Chiarelli knows

Don't use spec as a reference. Oilers pissed in his coffee a couple of years ago and his been a jerk ever since

Spector isn't reliable at all and Dreger is a notorious spin doctor. I won't suggest that Yak has much value, but it wouldn't surprise me if someone offered a 3rd for Yakupov, Chiarelli asked for a player - any player really, and was turned down. Dreger hears about it and spins it to "Yakupov can't get a 3rd".

And AHL'ers could mean good prospects still. Just sayin'.

In all fairness, what half baked prospect or 3rd rounder is going to show what Yakupov has already proved in the NHL?

In my opinion its another childish excuse to bash an Oiler player beyond what is reasonable............ and still baffles me as to why its allowed on HF boards. Its not honest debate.

Dozens? Where are you going with this?

Yes, Kylington is a top prospect. You can argue if you want but it won't change anything.

I'm just wondering why anyone would think he's a top prospect, other than "Some Other Flame" at HFBoards says so. His play certainly hasn't suggested it so far.

Yakupov value will only be determined when he has been traded anything else is a strawman argument.

Wideman and 3rd rnd pick for Yak.

I think Yak would have some value in Calgary. He could flip flop 4th and 1st line with Ferland depending on need. Also might turn out to be a sniper on PowerPlay 1.

Hahaa no way Kyl's or Anderson are going to the Oilers for a trash player named Yakupov, I wouldn't take him for a 2nd, but Wideman + 2nd for Yak seems fair, but only if there is no retention on either side

I think this thread should be closes. Longer it is open the more clean up on eisle six is needed. No sane oiler fan is expecting more then a 3rd or 4th at this point in time

Proved? He proved by shot suppression stats that he skates in one direction.

Word on the street is they are having trouble getting a third pick as return for Yakupov, as mentioned on FAN960 this morning (they quoted multiple sources). Why would Calgary do that? Two seconds for a guy that will likely not ever be an impact player doesn't make sense.

I would do a second round pick + Wideman for Yakupov.

unless the Oilers are taking back a VERY bad contract. Yakupov's value is about 5th or 6th and even then they might need to eat contract to even get that

He had a solid year in the AHL as an undersized 18 year old and he has elite skating and offensive skills.

For sure he's a top prospect. Top pairing potential if he solves a few problems. He has 2 years to clean up the defensive mistakes before he'll even get a shot in the NHL. Very excited about him.

I'd rather not take Yak unless we're clearing some salary (Wideman).

I think the 1st overall status & "what if he was developed" would be a distraction not worth his 8 goal and boosted (scored at x4 the rate with McDavid) 23 points.

Even if he returned to 33 points & terrible at everything else form who does he give us an upgrade on?
