Definitely should have been a penalty on DeBrusk ,hell could even argue 5 minutes ,also think the same for the hit on Kuraly, both were targeted head shots. But refs don’t call them but an extra shove in a scrum gets you a penalty,or a guy who doesn’t drop his broken stick instantly, had it for what 3 tenths of a second maybe.

tbe Carlo Komarov one killed me. You take two or none

The refs sometimes take whoever makes the last hit.Bruins are going to need to be more disciplined,or do a better job killing the penalties, blocking more shots without defecting in own net ,something.

Just going by what the broadcasters said.

Pierre was about 10 feet from where it happened.

They also thought Zajac's trip/leg check on McAvoy
was a great defensive play...lol.

Interestingly early in the first period Pelech
broke his stick in his own zone and held onto it
as long as Reilly and made a playing motion
with it. Where was that call?

Could be the ref was warning them, "that's enough". Carlo went for a couple of late wacks.

What a joke when Komarov after every whistle was instigating stuff, ref should have sent him off to stop the nonsense, instead they get a PP out of it.

Reilly has been even better than I realized. If he would just shoot a little more.

Would love to see the zone starts in there too- they were leaning real heavy on a couple guys in the defensive end earlier.

Check that -
Offensive zone start percentages next to their Corsi %. . . pretty much line up except for Clifton (what a monster he has become)
Clifton 28% 45%
KMiller 30% 38%
Tinordi 38% 30%
Lauzon 34% 38%

that second line needs a banger. somebody that can take the body. Thats why smith is pretty good there. He does the dirty work.
Hopefully smith can go thursday. but if not, we have to find somebody other than Debrusk.
I would even put Ritchie there Thursday instead of Debrusk.
Debrusk in my opinion should be on the LW.

Not a lot of effective options tbh.

Ritchie
DeBrusk
Kuhlman
Wagner
Coyle (Kuraly to C)

that play is just plain stupid with two players behind the goal line, the other defenseman 10 feet inside the blue line, with yourself against the boards. Trying to defend it is ludicrous
It's a ludicrous play that is made by NHL defensemen numerous times in a game, I'd think it's safe to say they are coached to make that pass if it's available. If Coyle is an Islander it's a totally different story. Cassidy calls it "ill-advised" since his D partner wasn't all the way back to receive it but I don't think he had watched the replay before his interview. If you look at the video at the time he makes that pass it looks like a completely safe play, the only people in the general area of where the puck is going are Bruins. I'm not gonna rip a player for not expecting a pass to deflect off his own teammates skate and turn into a fluke breakaway, you could make that pass 100 times and I guarantee it turns into many more goals for the Bruins than it does for the Islanders.

Again I agree Lauzon has looked rough out there but I have no issue with this play at all.

Thing is Ritchie isn't really physical like Smith. He should be with his body but he kinda just is ...there on the ice. Once in awhile he'll give a good hit or get nasty after the whistle. But nobody plays like Smith there. DeBrusk was more physical than Ritchie last night. For anyone who wants to crap on Jake, go watch the game again. Jake was hitting, moving his feet. He was battling. He was in front of the net like everyone wants him to be. He almost scored there. He had a couple of great passes. He's just not Smith.

He did what he had to do. And was fine. But the loss of Smith looms large. Nobody can replace that.

Lauzon and Clifton together were no Bueno

First goal went off Lauzons skate... **** happens.

Second goal Clifton left his guy to take Lauzons guy. Kuraly and Lauzon both couldn’t get back to the guy Clifton gave up.

Then the GWG.. mental error by Lauzon.

I’d like to seen Tinordi back in. Even if you exclude the GWG it just wasn’t a good night Lauzon. I said let’s give him a few games since he’s just getting back but woooooof. Plus Tinordi was as stable as they come the last time he played

Think a big issue is that Cassidy chose to scramble two lines to fill one hole. By pulling Debrusk up it disrupts both the 2nd and 3rd line and we don't really need any more looks to see Debrusk and Krejci aren't a fit this year.

If they go with Kuhlman as the replacement then IMO they're better off playing him in that second line role (and using his simple game on the forcheck to get the puck to Hall/Krejci) or rolling him out on the 4th line where his skill set really matches and he's asked to be what he is. Then pull Wagner up to the second line to be the Smith grinder/forcheck. B

I thought he was bad in the beginning of last round and finally churned out a solid performance the last few games of round 1.

This round thus far has been pretty bad.

Need more from him as well

The refs missed the JDB crosscheck to the head of Mayfield right before their PP and Hall blindsiding Palmieri. The officiating is horrible both sides, don't believe me read the Islanders board.

I don't mind the "missed calls" it's the calls like the one on Carlo that irritate me. There is nothing there and right before that Komarov took a clear shot at Mac after the whistle.

I'm all for hard hockey, but don't let stuff go then call a ticky tac penalty that changes the whole game.
