Both teams can play better and the penalties likely won’t be so unbalanced this game. I think it comes to goaltending as the two teams are pretty evenly matched overall, despite the discrepancy in regular season points. The Panthers have been playing good hockey for a stretch now and are looking more like last years President’s Trophy team than the team that struggled out of the gate.
Florida absolutely needs Bobrovsky to significantly and noticeably outplay Samsonov.

When you spend $10.0 million on your goaltender, and the other team is only spending $1.8 million on their goaltender, then you need your goaltender to be a big advantage for you.

Otherwise, you simply aren't getting a positive return on your investment.

Toronto's goaltender is ranked 50th in the NHL in terms of salary cap hit. I am not saying he is the 50th-best goaltender in the NHL. He is much better than that. But he still is only 50th in salary cap hit.

Any team wanting to beat Toronto is going to have to make Toronto pay the price for investing so little in a goaltender, so little in a player that plays all 60 minutes of the game.

This is especially true when Florida is the team with the goaltender who is ranked 1st in salary cap hit.

You have to add Murray and Samsonov and compare to Bob and Lyons. It’s the total goalie cap hit that matters.

Idk if they’re Panthers fans, but people aren’t bitching for the reason you say. They are saying it was shaky because all of the refs missed it. Their meeting to discuss it took way too long, and raises questions of if they saw something on jumbotron to make them realize what they had missed. It was like a big time out for the Leafs.

I think they saw the blood on ROR’s face, he told them “I got hit in the face with a stick and now I’m bleeding” and they got together and one of them said “I saw the sticks up and ROR went down, now he’s bleeding.”

Then another one said “do you think we should review it?”

And then they decided “if we can make the call now, we can review it and rescind it if it’s not a high stick”

Then all of them in unison say “ohhhhhhhhhhh”

Then the refs all patted each others butts and went and got the call right

Really wish this was available in ‘93

Forgot the part where, another one said,

Hey look up guys, they’re showing the replay on the jumbotron.

Maurice was correct in his post game comments though, the Panthers will be short handed more than the Leafs this series, and they need to be prepared for that.

Maybe they should take less penalties then? They had a 4 min penalty and arguably there was a missed 5 min major and those are just big ones. I get they want to play physical but that will come with the downside of penalties

Taking it even easier on him tonight, predicting a Barkov goal.
Did he play like this in the regular season? He plays like a third D, the regular D are very wide and he sits in between them and arrives very late into the offensive zone. Didn't see many Panthers games in the regular season.

He does carry the puck into the zone from time to time, but he has become more of a defensive zone first center. As far as coverage in the o zone, he tends to play back a bit. One of those guys you can watch all year, check the stats, and be surprised he's a ppg+ player.
