I like our chances, I really do. Still early obviously but very happy with the win and the way we played, mostly. Thought Panthers dominated the 1st period, if not for the penalties and Samsonov's great play they could have had a 3 or 4-0 lead going into the 2nd. Not pleased with how fast they surrendered that 2 goal lead though, gave the Leafs some life again. Bob looks dialed in!

It really feels like a completely different series to the Bruins one. We are keeping pace with the Leafs, step by step and might even have a step on them at the moment. Keep this train rollin! :towel:
BOS is clearly better than TOR. A game 6 slugfest with a 7-5 score is not a usual thing against BOS whereas with TOR, it is all about high-event high-scoring games (like us last year). BOS basically looked always in control when they had the puck. It still is quite the miracle what our team pulled off.

Not scared of TOR at all, but game outcomes are way more unpredictable than with BOS - though our team makes a game against any opponent unpredictable...

Very good start. Ended that damn winless streak first games of playoff series. Only thing, I didn't like the way they played at the very end. Hope it doesn't carry over. But otherwise, couldn't ask for better.

GOOOD MORNING BOYS .

This was me last night in 4 stages after the game

if you know, you know

No worries. When I say "see you later guys", there is normally a mix of guys and girls in the group for example.

I’m just not good at keeping tracks of who is who… I know the general opinions of posters, their stances and all…

But no, I’m not keeping track of sex.

To me, we’re ALL PANTHERS FANS, man ! :P

Edit: It’s also by being my second language… I think I’m cooler by using "man", "geez" and "f***" every other posts… And I know it’s stupid or childish, please don’t judge me.

Mentioning goal scorers is a newer innovation.
Originally it was only end scores plus points by Finns.
That way we followed NHL for at least three decades.
This game would have been
Toronto-Florida 2-4
(Barkov 0+2)

Juha Alanen who created teletext sports pages in 1984 died in 2019. He used to say that if we start to announce goalscorers, soon we aren't doing anything else. At the same time in the local orienteering, track and field or cross-country skiing races they mentioned easily at least top 6. So thanks to younger generation even such a cultural institution has changed when it comes to team sports like hockey and football. Teletext is the most patriotic and honest sports media because first of all, everyone is following it and secondly, if something is not there, it's not important. Thirdly, there are no fake news or clickbaits.

I love this forum.

We keep talking about this as a transition year, but if we somehow knock off Toronto the path to the Cup Finals is there and I can't help but start to wonder about things.... I don't see Carolina or New Jersey (especially) being as big of a challenge as Boston / Toronto.

One game at a time...

Until we are viewed as a good team. The refs and league will be biased.
You have to earn respect over a long period of time.

For years the Dolphins were one of the fewest penalized team
because of their success.

Success alters perception.

That's honestly not why the Dolphins were the least penalized team under Shula. Had more to do with three factors:

1. Shula was on the competition committee and helped set the rules and enforcement policy. He knew better than anyone exactly where the line was for enforcement, and coached accordingly.

2. Shula was notoriously hard-ass about player discipline. If guys were committing penalties or too often borderline, they'd get benched and he'd make them miserable in practice.

3. I think the officials were just plain scared of the guy, due in large part to #1.

Similarities to last year Leafs are this years version of Last years Panthers ?
Not only in where the two teams are and were but the style difference between the two teams. Panthers have some experience at this and now see that big Cup while the Leafs are just happy to be here. Chucky is going to be a target but the guys are well adapted to net play and know their roles. Notice how we are creating lanes for shooters it takes time to learn that and we seem to just know where to be.

A lot of this "not a true 8th seed" is getting thrown out there.

Lol have you not seen our roster actually?

Having said that he's actually bang on. Bob was complete ass till December

I still refuse to believe in these dumb booboo idiots because when I do they end up losing the games.

I am glad we won more games than last year though :D

The only thing I can say about Brad Marchand is that I legitimately don't know how he manages to get that nose so far up his own ass.

It’s funny that a guy who can make this much sense and be reasonable about why the Panthers won that series also can lick people to get under their skin. Hockey has some weird dudes playing it.

I actually agree that we aren't a true 8th seed. The team underperformed for practically the entire season and really should have been comfortably in the playoffs.

We have good offense up front in Barkov, Tkachuk, Reinhart, Bennett, Verhaeghe

Montour has become an elite puck moving offensive defenseman and then you have a very solid Forsling / Ekblad pairing that provides good outlet passes and D zone play.

Our goaltender is inconsistent but when he's on, he's on.

It's not a stacked line up on paper by any means, but we have enough talent to not be considered a "true" 8th seed and really should have finished higher if we played to our potential.

Pre-season most thought we wouldn't repeat winning the Presidents trophy, but we would place top 3 in the division. Actually, most thought it would be with Toronto and Tampa, whilst Boston would be fighting for a wildcard spot.

So we underachieved, and perhaps Boston overachieved. Meaning the match up was actually a lot closer than many assumed it would be.

Often it's those guys that are the smartest because they play the game within the game. Just look at Tkachuk, well spoken and smart, but if he wasn't on my team I'd hate him too. Those guys do those things purposely.
