Naaaaaaaah… Impossible !

Dom Luczywhatever’s model says it’s Luke Schenn ! So it can‘t be true… You’re wrong, you’re a liar !

Montour is as big a bum as our coach or captain, just throw him away !
LOL, what did the guy do to you?
IDK where you're taking your numbers, but from this ranking by him (updated April 5), Montour is tied for 11th-12th among Dmen in the league. In the player cards, Schenn is ranked 7th among Toronto's dmen alone.

BTW, Dom "Luczywhatever" was pretty much the most optimistic analyst re: Florida making the playoffs after we've dug ourselves into a hole this year, and one of the few people who said "you know, Boston are obviously the favorites in that series but the Panthers still have a solid shot". No idea where your "he hates the Panthers!" impression (mentioned in another thread) comes from, but I really don't see it.

Was talking about the Norris-chase rankings Dom published earlier. Montour nowhere to be found and Luke Schenn top-12 or something lool

I think it was brought in Game #7 thread...

He wasn't optimistic, his model was. And he kept on going about how it could/should be wrong because Panthers were terrible with the eye-test, showing clearly how he doesn't watch the games and just put numbers in his Excel-file...

Look... I don't care about Dom really, it's just a way of having a lil fun, but believe me when I say he's never been a Panthers believer or supporter while often trashing us for no reasons... I've followed Twitter and The Athletic long enough ! :)

I like our chances, I really do. Still early obviously but very happy with the win and the way we played, mostly. Thought Panthers dominated the 1st period, if not for the penalties and Samsonov's great play they could have had a 3 or 4-0 lead going into the 2nd. Not pleased with how fast they surrendered that 2 goal lead though, gave the Leafs some life again. Bob looks dialed in!

It really feels like a completely different series to the Bruins one. We are keeping pace with the Leafs, step by step and might even have a step on them at the moment. Keep this train rollin! :towel:

Do you have a link where he has Schenn top 12 or even close? He is not in his top 10 (and, based on the GSVA he uses there, Montour would actually be 12th with Schenn nowhere near that).

I've followed the Athletic for the past five years or so and never got the impression you did.

Sorry... He was 16th... I hope you're not that kind of guy ! ;)

Edit: And it was actually posted in THIS thread, next time do your work please lol

Cousins was with Chucky and Bennett in the first but I noticed Verghaeghe was out there too with them. Was he double shifted or did it happen to be incomplete line changes at times?

That poster is not a guy at all.....

Stating them to do their work when this poster has been a big part of this message board seems a little off imo. It's a big thread, and you didn't even know letsgrowcactus is a female.

Did anyone watch the PoMo presser this morning?

He talked about Tkachuk right before the overtime goal banking the puck off the glass to put in a spot where he can better fight for the puck.

I am rewatching it now and holy shit its true lmao

He gets to the puck first but he was about to get hit so he threw it off the glass so he can turn his body and take the contact but keep the puck in front of him and Carlo behind him so it turns the puck battle essentially Bennett and Tkachuk vs Grezlyck

Thats f***ing ridiculous
Tkachuck has shown me what the definition of Hockey IQ is, he is always thinking 2 plays ahead on one of the fastest sports, for the winning goal, he created the chaos, and as soon the puck went to Bennett, he moved over to block the full view of the goalie, when viewed at full speed you can appreciate how fast this game is.

Randy made a good point about Bob in the post game show. He reminded us that Bob had more than 2 weeks off leading up to, and into, the playoffs with Lyon starting. This allowed Bob to get some rest and be completely healthy when he took back the net. This helps the Panthers as the goalies they are facing have had to play have not had the rest that Bob's had.

So, Barkov had 2 more assists, was over 70% on faceoffs, and was playing a lot more physical. Good enough for you Barkov detractors?

Maurice told the team before they left Florida to pack for 7 days because they were going to win game 7 and go straight to Toronto.

I mentioned after the 1st period he look more engaged and was driving the play more. I think some other people mentioned this as well.

Yes, better. Not taking over a game, but a lot more noticeable on the ice which is a good thing. I would still like to see another gear. Especially if the Tkachuk line goes cold. But if the Tkachuk line remains hot, the Lundell line is good, and the Barkov line keeps at least this level, we could go far.

Unlike Dom, I had the balls to say the Panthers were gonna win!

As an analytics guy myself, I have my differences with Dom. I feel that "this is out of context" has become a meaningless, reflex response to most analytics, but Dom legitimately lacks a lot of nuance.

The eye test has its place in addition to taking in what 3-5 models are saying. Dom takes what his model says and it's gospel.

I do agree with him, basically, that the Panthers were always a good team and a lot of things just conspired against them. I mean, forget the analytics - they won 58 games last year and added Matthew Tkachuk. You simply can't judge a team on part of a season. From the start of last year to now, the Panthers are an elite team.

I've said it a few times, but I did not know quite how talented Tkachuk is. And I really did think he was a very good player with Calgary. I was happy we got him at first. But now I'm ecstatic. He's quickly becoming my favourite player that has ever played for the Panthers. Think he already is! So amazing we actually have this type of player.

So not the Norris chase then but the Con Smythe which at that point had the great sample size of 4-7 games per player. Is it really that shocking that a couple fluke guys make it to the list?

Talking about analytics, what are the stats saying about the Panthers players in their first game against the Leafs.

Scotty, do you have the graphs?

I think Maurice uses that strategy a little… Either he has Verhaeghe overextending his shift after Barky and Duke come out, or the other way around having Cousins make a quick-change after a good dump-in !

Our bum coach I think, nice one… Maybe.

I'm going to echo this, the first 10 games of the season the Panthers were absolutely elite and had some of the worst luck I've ever seen as a fan. Completely dominating games and then losing. Towards the middle we faced a ton of injuries, some of the players had personal issues going on as well. All the while they were learning a brand new system completely alien to what they were playing the year before. You can't judge this Panther team based on the regular season too many things hadn't come together then as they are now. It's a different team for all intents and purposes.

Really like that we're keeping up with our forecheck, going to be another key to the series. Feels like this.

We had a couple defensive lapses that led to the two goals and there were a few chances, but I felt we locked it down pretty well with the lead. The game models show the Leafs higher on the deserve to win meter, but that's more about game score effects than I think actual play. Just need to keep their players to the outside and disrupt their transition.

Not gonna get too hyped after just one win, but we looked good.

This is score-adjusted expected goals for percentage. Looks like a tight game with that one line really dominating. Vibes with what I saw.

Sorry if I use some words like "man, bro, guys, boys" all the time, I tend to always think we’re in a locker room, I know this may sounds archaic, but it’s nothing against anybody… She asked me to show her evidence, I‘m not sure you always have to justify yourself on these boards, I tried to always state facts that are easily verified.

Also, I can’t even keep track of what I eat yesterday, so sorry @letsgrowcactus, it wasn’t meant that way at all, and I didn’t wanted it to sound bad, it just took me two minutes to find it back. It was more a small lil tap from a teammate than anything…

Sorry again for not remembering I was talking with a girl though. Really, I am.

I’ve been around these boards forever, lost track of all the members we’ve had, and writing in my second-language… You (I am not exposed) calling me out for it (using "man" to call a fellow poster on a hockey-board) isn’t really better… ;)

No worries. When I say "see you later guys", there is normally a mix of guys and girls in the group for example.
