yeah that main thread is wild, leaf fans calling the panthers a horrible team, leafs dominated the game, etc. just complete delusion. it's really giving me life.

With fans like them, their loss is always due to one of two things. Either their team sucked and gave the game away to a totally inferior team, or the other inferior team got incredibly lucky and got all the calls and they would not have otherwise lost to such an inferior team.

Look up “entitled” in the dictionary and see those Maple Leafs fans.

And the PP of Toronto doesnt looked that bad, they had great Chances.
So they try to figure things out and try the best.

Solid performance by the team. Bob bailed us out. If he is going to play his worth we have to be feeling really good about ourselves. It'll give us an edge.
Montour's offense is truly bonkers, it's making up for some of his defensive mistakes.
Tkachuk, I mean, what else can be said, at this rate clear MVP.
Duclair, I have nothing against the guy, but my lord we might as well have an ECHL player for him and there would be no difference. He is simply useless. Provides nothing.
We just have to continue with our game. The guys have really bought into whatever Maurice sold them and it's paying dividends.

Hope we can continue this and win the series. Lots of respect for that Leafs team though, they're dangerous and we have flaws. But darn it we have heart.

I thought Maurice was about to give him a kiss after the assist he provided. Really trying to put some confidence into him.

Still much better than SportsNet. I had great quality SN stream, but could not handle their Leafs worshipping, had to switch to less reliable ESPN stream and of course it froze up with 3 mins left, went back to SN.

Last year this team learnt that they have enough skill to beat any other team. But they lacked the understanding of true PO hockey, the intensity and mostly the pressure, that skill is not everything. That's exactly what they are learning now, and MT is the best teacher they could find for exactly that.

Wherever we end up this season, we should be in for one hell of a ride next year.

Mentioning goal scorers is a newer innovation.
Originally it was only end scores plus points by Finns.
That way we followed NHL for at least three decades.

Juha Alanen who created teletext sports pages in 1984 died in 2019. He used to say that if we start to announce goalscorers, soon we aren't doing anything else. At the same time in the local orienteering, track and field or cross-country skiing races they mentioned easily at least top 6. So thanks to younger generation even such a cultural institution has changed when it comes to team sports like hockey and football. Teletext is the most patriotic and honest sports media because first of all, everyone is following it and secondly, if something is not there, it's not important. Thirdly, there are no fake news or clickbaits.

True. They also understand now how hard it is to win. That is why I was so against those TDL acquisitions last year. In my opinion that team wasn't ready to win. In 2020 I wrote that if the team wants to win the cup, a project should be for four year. It's like in many sports olympics. You set a goal that is four year from now and go for it step by step. Last year they had skilled players but also were forced to change the coach during the season. They weren't ready to play hard and give everything they had.

The biggest surprise for me in these playoffs has been the defense. Last year there were those stupid mistakes. Now this forechecking is probably taking some pressure from defenders but still who would have believed that Montour is one of the best d-men in the whole league and Mahura or M. Staal are good enough when they play against the best teams in the league in playoff games.

Regular season will be easier next year because players know the system but what I would like to see is a little bit less of playoff hockey in November. You don't have to play turtle the whole 3rd period when you are leading by one.

After sleeping on it, I must say, game 1 exceeded my expectations. The compete level is high, I thought there might be a lull after Boston. TML is going to get their high danger chances. With a solid Bob and a little luck, we just might have some more season left in us. It's good to see.

Randy made a good point about Bob in the post game show. He reminded us that Bob had more than 2 weeks off leading up to, and into, the playoffs with Lyon starting. This allowed Bob to get some rest and be completely healthy when he took back the net. This helps the Panthers as the goalies they are facing have had to play have not had the rest that Bob's had.

So, Barkov had 2 more assists, was over 70% on faceoffs, and was playing a lot more physical. Good enough for you Barkov detractors?

That last bullet point is worrisome. Need to be much better at shot suppression. They did a relatively good job on the Leafs' big guns, but got caught napping on the goal by Bunting (Leafs' D returned the favor on Swaggy's breakaway). I did like how the PK seemed more aggressive than in the Boston series not allowing a lot of the cross-ice passing and taking away the bumper.
