Idk, a couple poor decisions and tried to do a bit too much, but he could’ve had a bunch of assists. Believe he set up Tatar with a beauty from behind the net, and Palat if my memory is right.

I know its a red hot take.. Just one of the impressions i got inarena.

Mercer also making stupid decisions to pass wide

I dont think putting Luke in would be a panic move. Power play sucks. We need some alternate options next game so lets play Luke ahead of Bahl to give Rangers a different look. Even if it was just for PP2.
If you think our fossil behind the bench and golf cart slosh assistant would play him on the PP, good luck with that. They didn’t even give him PP time in the regular season.

I think coaching only goes so far there. A lot of the plays that were made were forced, and even then they just looked hurried and forced. Other than a few looks we were basically bumrushed to every puck on the PP and PK. The players need to take fault in that.
The PK settled into that passive box and let the skilled Rangers set up all day to find the pass they wanted. To me that’s on coaching. There’s no universe where Hischier and Mercer are slow right now. But they are in vapor lock trying to cover everything which can’t work. Force the Rangers to move the puck before they want to. I’ll live with Vitek having to make some saves if the complete lower percentage passes. It was too easy. PP I agree was as much players as coaches.

Remember, Thursday is open for the GDT.

To the bunch of 'Devils' fans that are never around normally that called out my GDT: Go f*** Yourself.

One thing is Smith can also play on the 4th line, he's been used like that before. That might be something to keep an eye on.

Maybe needed a seizure warning, but I thought it was fun.

We might need Pepe for Thursday though

You know what it looks like to me? Like they're trying to force set plays instead of adjusting based on how the other team defends. As if they only have 1 strat and try to force it all the time. Talking about the pp btw, but I guess that could be said for the pk too.

I don't think anyone one individual was awful outside of maybe Vitek and Wood?

More that 3/4th of the team was totally invisible.

Jack, Nico, and Marino only goes that I recall really standing out with some positive plays and even then they had a few too many warts

Bahl played zero PK minutes tonight, so there is no benefit to inserting Smith in over Hughes in that regard. Granted if Sieg's or Graves takes a penalty that changes things.

Just looking at the 5v5 possession #'s we were "dominant" as a team, and Bahl's numbers "look" darn good as well. Now obviously total grain of salt given we got smoked, but he was not on the ice for a goal against, so even from the "we were dominated, while we dominated the possession numbers" don't factor against Bahl either.

End of the day, if your trying to show lack of panic, you don't make a move and stick with D as is. Not sure I see an argument for Smith over Bahl really.

Now if you are looking for a spark, and trying to add a dynamic presence, then Hughes would make some sense, but I don't think I'd do it after this game.
Hischier was on for three goals agsinst. Maybe they should move him off the third line and insert Lazar.

Not even sure what the 2nd unit was tonight, don't think they went with 2 d-men, but I do think Hughes on that 2nd unit with Sev's makes some sense.

They would likely be the 3rd pairing together too, so it wouldn't be a disruption to the 5v5 transition.

The diversity of this board is beautiful. You'll have people arguing about physicality and how the hits are counted and the next post is people asking for a stew recipe.

Cant wait for Thursday.
It's best to talk about something else or I'll get too down...there are at least 3 more of these so I don't want to be at rock bottom after only one.

He also walked through the Rangers once or twice for chances .

I don't see how Vitek isn't the main culprit for tonight. Had a nervous group with a bunch of kids playing in their first playoff game. He gives up an absolute stinker to Tarasenko that completely sucked the life out of them. Add in the awful goal to Lindgren and it was good night at that point. With that said the Devils only had like 10 shots halfway through the game which is not nearly enough vs Igor.

Everything needs to be better for game 2 but it starts/ends with goaltending.

For me:

#1 Coaching
#2 Inexperience

I said it already and I'll say it again. If you're gunna put the blame on goaltending for this, just don't watch anymore cuz it will be a sweep.

He’s certainly A culprit but nobody was ready for this game from coaches on down

I don't think the Tarasenko goal was as bad as the board is making it out to be. Aside from the save on Palat, we probably didn't put a better shot on goal all game.

Ruff was out-coached, bottom line. I don't want to hear any argument here. He was out-coached on top of it all.

These boys need to man up and grow some balls for G2.

Kredier is the biggest and sturdiest sissy on the ice. Someone needs to break a stick over his back and prevent her from camping out next to our goaltender.

There is such a thing about momentum and timely saves. He needed to be good to start this game and was flat out bad instead. Nothing to do with coaching, nothing to do with experience. He has experience and was awful tonight.
