Remember, Thursday is open for the GDT.

To the bunch of 'Devils' fans that are never around normally that called out my GDT: Go f*** Yourself.

One thing is Smith can also play on the 4th line, he's been used like that before. That might be something to keep an eye on.
I enjoyed it, it was a bit out there but the threads are suppose to be fun and I thought it succeeded.

Can I have more "based Anime Fan" GDT?

His career playoff stats are abysmal. He’s a fine stop gap in the regular season when his team dominates the run of play, but like I said all year, he’s going to lose us a playoff series.

I hope I’m wrong, but this team’s construction with Vitek in net gives me flashbacks to the Caps teams that would smoke the regular season in the 00s/10s and then get bounced in the playoffs because of goaltending.
I don’t think NJ expected to be here and didn’t foresee a real playoff run as a possibility. I don’t think for a minute the team expected a top flight goalie. You don’t get those for a pick swap. They just wanted a steady legit NHL goalie and they got that. If NJ got the last wild card spot and played Boston and lost each game 3-1 or 3-2 nobody wound have batted an eye. I’m sure the team development surprised the coaches and management. If they can get the special teams fixed this series is far from over. The advanced stats at five on five completely favored NJ.

What was the deadline add then for Vanecek? We gave a boatload for Meier and there was no one on the damn market who was going to help this playoff run unless you hemorrhaged your entire farm for Saros + Meier trades and that's if Nashville was willing to trade him then. A goalie trade will come if Vanecek is the culprit and Fitz sees that which he probably will. The guy isn't dumb with how he built this roster.

So what’s the solution then? Do you trust Schmid in the long run? I definitely think he can be something. He gives me a sense of calmness in the net.

on the Penalty kill it felt like the Rangers players were using the fact that the Devils weren't going after the puck and instead were pretty passive to their advantage.

If their slower players can push the Devils players off the puck on the PP our players should be able to do the same on the PK.

Even a great goalie probably gives up at least two tonight. NJ was discombobulated on the PK and why were three centers on the ice for Lundgren’s goal? None of those guys had a clue what to do there and that’s not hero fault. If you play five left tackles at the same time four guys are out of position and nobody is snapping the ball.

Both are to blame, but Vitek is an absolute disaster of a playoff goalie. Washington didn’t move him for a middling pick for no reason.
This is only his fourth career playoff game and his first ended after he got injured only 13 minutes into the game in 2021.

The numbers are ugly, but still very limited. It’s not like he’s been disastrous for a significant sample of games like he’s Bobrovsky.

But I do think if we lose game 2 and he’s any worse than a hard luck loser; it’s time for Schmid at MSG.

Too early to take the Schmid card from out of the sleeve, but it could be coming soon.

I don’t disagree, they didn’t think Vitek was elite. They just shot for average goaltending, which they got.

But you see in the playoffs how this is going to be a major hole for the team in the future if they can’t get just competent goaltending. Just stop what’s expected at a minimum, you can’t be giving up full goals below expected.

I said going into this series, if they get goalied so be it. There was no smart solution to it and it's arguably going to be the biggest roster weakness of these two teams. There's no excuse for what the f***ing powerplay and PK did tonight, we've seen those units carry in spurts this year.

I personally would go Schmid for game 2. That's still early enough to see if you have a better option.

Thank god for Genucel’s facial scrub and cream. Cleansing this loss off right now. Silky smooth!

Give Schmid and Daws another year and let’s see where they are. Schmid has promise at least.
