So what’s the solution then? Do you trust Schmid in the long run? I definitely think he can be something. He gives me a sense of calmness in the net.
No, I don’t trust Schmid. The issue is there is no solution right now. Nothing they can do about it this year at least.

Honestly, I think Daws/Malek might be more of an answer in the long run. But that doesn’t solve the current issues.

What’s your beef with Schmid? He looked very good this season coming off his first NHL experience where he struggled in comparison.

What makes you doubt Schmid? I’ve liked what I’ve seen so far.
He was just average in the AHL and his career progression (aside from last year in Utica) isn’t great. He’s been solid in a handful of games in the NHL this year so everyone loves him, but they just haven’t been exposed to his streakiness yet.

Goalies are voodoo so you never know, but the odds/career profile aren’t on his side to be a legitimate NHL 1A.

Rangers came out with the proper gameplan tonight and executed it well.

Now it’s on the Devils to put this game behind them and make adjustments. If it was me, it’s not part of the Devils normal gameplan but they should do some 3 or 4 man set breakouts when the Rangers drop 4 guys passively into the neutral zone to clog it up.

FWIW, Kane looked like an abomination tonight. That top line got pummeled with a 20 CF%. Their kid line was the only one that seemed alright 5v5. Stay out of the damn box, looking at you Wood and this series isn't done by any means. If it becomes a track meet and we have to worry about Vanecek, so be it. It's not going to play in the Rangers hand either.

I don't think they are an impressive team, we just played right into their game plan and didn't adjust or lift our play

The patented softy by an opposing goalie + Miles Wood loses his shit.

I was thinking midway through the game that, if I'm the Rag's, I clutch and grab all night.

But no way do the Rag's come into this game thinking, let's take a couple early penalties and see what happens.

Our PP was bad, which kind of makes sense given they are a good PK team, but then we gave up PP goals against, which was out of character given we were also a good PK team this year.

But I'm just not buying into this "outcoached" or "proper gameplan" business.

They gave us prime oppurtunities early and we didn't take advantage.

The game was lost in the first 10 minutes when the goaltending and PP execution failed spectacularly under the bright lights of the first playoff game for a bunch of kids who are barely old enough to drink. There’s nothing the rangers actively did that caused VV to wilt under the spotlight or the PP to not execute even the most basic plays to get a shot on goal.

How the game unfolded after that point was largely a result of that disastrous start. If the devils came up big on either of those two aspects of the game, it would have likely been at least a close contest, at worst.

To be fair, his AHL career has been an improvement over the other guy that you insisted had elite upside…… and his career progression was poor, outside of the two good NHL years, which are definitely outliers.

Just saying.

He’s probably about average at the AHL level.

I believe Vitek can bounce back.

Rest of the team also needs to be better.
Until Vitek has a single quality playoff start in his career, I’m not going to blindly believe he’s going to bounce back.

I know some take a more glass half full approach and that’s fine, but I can’t convince myself that a guy who has done nothing but shit the bed in a handful of playoff games is going to magically flip a switch for the first time.
