I’m surprised how surprised some of you are about the type of hockey that’s being played. It’s across pretty much every series (granted, I haven’t watched Rangers-Devils). And it’s what’s amazing about the NHL playoffs.
I'm only surprised because the Islanders are trying to play like they're the Bruins. Other than their 4th line knuckle draggers, they're not even close to as tough. And the whole lineup talent wise is not even in the same stratosphere as the Bruins. Without Sorokin, they are a lottery team. I just don't get what they're trying to do, whatever it is, they're not very good at it.

Also, through 4 games Sorokin (or Saros frankly) should win the Vezina hands down. They likely won’t because Ullmark has the stats while playing behind the best team in the league. But goals 2 and 3 were about as perfectly played as they could be from an offensive standpoint and he still got a piece of both shots and almost saved them. Freaking insane.

Also, based on my lip reading, I'm pretty sure Necas said on the bench after he scored a PPG, "take that you f***ing pu*****."

Necas, "I love you 3000." You're the man.

They are doing the only thing they can to not get swept again.

Agree its not as effective if you don't have real talent AND toughness like the Bruins. But really, what else can they do other than try to bust up the Canes, and it worked in Game 3.

I mean if that's their main goal, well done. But if that's their plan to win it all, good luck is all I'm saying.

As far as Bertuzzi is concerned, Boston had more of a necessity to trade their firsts for short-term boosts. They're about two retirements away from a full-blown rebuild and both Orlov and Bertuzzi will sign UFA contracts elsewhere because Boston is capped out.

Part of me wonders if the flat cap and the pending cap hell for many Eastern clubs, in particular, played a role in why so many teams spent 1st round picks like drunken sailors this deadline.

Commentators: "nothing really going on at the net, no need for that"

Palmieri: chops at Raanta twice and "accidentally" skates into him

f*** off you biased twats

It's ESPN sucking the dick of NY

What else is new

According to ESPN, when the Isles go mouthing off to the refs they're "just making sure the refs see their perspective"...but when the Canes do it (after a player literally had his hand broken and season likely ended), they're "whining"...f***. RIGHT. OFF.
I am SO glad I can listen to our local broadcasters for the 1st round.

As usual, basically the rest of the hockey media will root for almost anyone over Carolina. Doesn't matter if it's ESPN or TNT. Different channels, same clown show with a bias against the Hurricanes.

I still remember the impression that the national broadcasters were rooting for Edmonton when we won the cup in '06.

Damn y'all should go read the Isles board, they genuinely believe they're getting shafted by the refs. Capped off with thinking McE should have gotten a penalty on the same play he got drilled by Martin (after already being hit by another Isle just prior on that play)
Don't worry. 2LeftSkate on the main board replied to me and implied that not all of them are constantly whining about the refs and being victims (in a delusional and foolishly smug manner in his post). He implied they weren't like the constant ref crybaby that made the Necas bench scrum topic.

So, I have it on good authority they aren't that way. However, I'm not sure how I can reconcile this apparent and confusing contradiction!

They're being intentionally vague about Freddie. He went from injured, to sick, back to injured.

With conflicting messages like that, it's quite possible that it's none of the above. My current assumption is that he's upset at losing the playoff starting job to Raanta and has not responded well to that.

I think you are 100% correct. I don't think he will be on the team next year and since he was so bad to end the year, I don't think there is much point for him to be around.

I wouldn't be surprised if Raanta signs another small contract to start with Kotch in a 1A/1B situation.

We would need to carry 3 goalies with Kochetkov and Raanta. One can’t stay healthy and the other is highly inconsistent
