No, you beat the goalie when you hit the post. Unless you are playing behind the post and in the net.

You don't beat the goalie unless you score a goal. You think people are gonna go "Oh well that post hit really sealed the deal!"? No. Not gonna argue this because I'll be called wrong wrong and more wrong. But until the puck crossed that line, the goalie isn't beat.

And the fact that our offense was completely incapable of getting the puck and helping get it out of the defensive zone wasn't a factor?

All I'm saying is you no matter what scenario took place, if the Caps scored, you guys are going to blame Torts (and I do not like Torts as a coach myself). Either McD was out too long and he should have taken him off or McD came off and we have the 2nd/3rd pairing out vs Ovechkin. He can't win.

And it's McDonagh.

I don't care who he is. He should not have to take a 3 minute shift. Terrible coaching. Directly loses us the game.

With the way they've gone so far, can you blame them?

You're right! Is that what you want to hear? Why are we arguing over the attitudes of a bunch of negative people like it's some valid topic of discussion? So I digress.

Everyone be negative, because then when negative things happen you can say "Yay I was right" and then you can live your entire life being negative knowing that you were once right about something. Any joy and positivity in your life will be discredited as a fluke and you'll always be expecting something terrible to happen. Enjoy living like that.

Boston lost their first two at home and had an even worse PP in 2011.

Let's wait for the Caps to win 4 games before we say it is over.

Thank you!

For real. It's not even like we lost the first two games at the Garden. If we did, it'd be a different story. We can easily win the next two games at home. We could've easily have won this game. If we did, the negative people would be calling for a series win.

There's always going to be lows in the playoffs. Hopefully this team can turn it around. They have the opportunity Monday.

You're embarrassed to be a fan of a team in the playoffs? OK, then. Go and become a Devils fan, then.

if you think this is a good team worthy of being proud of you're entitled to your opinion but how ignorant do you have to be to not even understand that people are incensed by this teams failure and waste of another all world performance by the best G in the world. To me what you're doing is like ignoring when a bf/gf treats you like garbage or does something wrong just b/c they're yours

If the puck goes behind you in an attempt to make a save and the post bails you out, yes. You were beaten. If you want to justify it another way, be my guest, I guess.

Rangers PP Rank under Torts:
08-09 - 29th
09-10 - 13th
10-11 - 18th
11-12 - 23rd
12-13 - 23rd

I think Torts and Sullivan getting blamed is fair. Team has never had a top 10 powerplay under his reign. Just awful coaching.

McDonagh final shift 03:04.
He had been on for 02:03 when Torts decided it was good plan to keep him on the ice after the whistle

I'm so sick of our ******* idiot coach. He makes the same stupid ****ing decisions over and over and over again. It's the definition of insanity. Girardi plays on the powerplay. Pyatt plays on the powerplay. Zuccarello gets buried when OT rolls around. He ****s with Kreider's head all season and then scratches him, because this team clearly doesn't need any extra offensive talent in the lineup. The team fails to generate quality scoring chances and zone pressure on a nightly basis. He doesn't adjust. Good coaches realize when **** isn't working and make ****ing adjustments. But the organization loves him. They love our pigheaded **** of a coach.

The Rangers aren't even in the same stratosphere as the Capitals. This is embarrassing considering they were by far the better ES team in the regular season. To factor in special teams, we'd be lucky not to get swept.

I do suspect Lundqvist will get one win on his own somehow, if we're lucky to get the goal support.

Yep. Sad loss. Seriously bummed out about that.

Definite ouch, I just hope they can put it behind them. Get ready for Game 3. Not gonna give up on them before they even play a home game. I think they come out hard, win Game 3, who knows for Game 4 though...

They need Staal back asap.

You're embarrassed to be a fan of a team in the playoffs? OK, then. Go and become a Devils fan, then.

No, embarrassed to be a fan of a torts coached team that has no offensive ability. Especially against a garbage goalie like holtby.

As a goalie myself (and I'm not being snide or high horsed) hitting the post still means you didn't beat the goalie. It didn't go in but it was about to... at least in my world, you don't beat the goalie till it goes in. But aside from that, they could've buried a few more shots... They seem too scared.
VERY GOOD POINT. Hitting the crossbar means nothing unless it goes in the net. some fans loves the moral victory lol

Pot meet kettle. Calling people ignorant for not being debbie downers and crying about everything is pretty ridiculous.

I agree with you. I played for 20+ years, and the fact is the post is nothing more than a missed shot. Its not even a shot on goal in the books. I laugh when people say "but omg it hit the post." Makes no difference, its a missed shot.

People are understandably upset b/c they had to endure a lackluster effort in a crucial game. That defensive game was glorified by Lundqvist being stellar in goal. We gave up a number of high quality scoring chances and if that's going to be the case then you need to be aggressive and take some chances in the offensive zone.

We didn't win puck battles, we stick checked the entire game and there were very few moments where guys were skating hard. More than 3/4 of that game was absolutely brutal to watch.

See, here is where I disagree.

Its not an effort thing. The Rangers play EXTREMELY hard. They have to in Torts system.

The problem is the game plan. The Rangers don't need a kick in the butt, they need guidance. Torts isn't able to do that.

OK. So then make fun of the Devils fans for having a **** team on its last legs that can't draft and won't have a pick next year. What are the Devils fans really going to say to you after we eliminated them from contention?

Team is not playing well..not horrible but close. The offense is the problem..you cant be all defense because you are just waiting to lose...which is what happened today...lets see if they can turn it around...but it rests with the coaches and players to make it happen...lets see how we come out for game 3...I mean i would be more disturbed if they were playing great and just barely losing every game...but really it hasnt been much of a contest...we need to create offense...and i dont mean the shots we take to bolster the shot stats...we may have had 2 or 3 quality chances today...aside from that....

The Rangers just have to start shooting the MFing puck anywhere and try to put it THROUGH any would be shot blocker!

Capitals know the Rangers won't shoot on the PP unless the shot is wide open. That allows the would-be shot blocker to stay on his feet. KNOCK HIM THE **** OFF HIS FEET! START BLASTING THE PUCK!

Make the PK fear a shot.

Well said.

The team leading 2-games-nil with site order HH has the following best-of-7 playoff series and games record:

series record, NHL only, all rounds: 215-25 (.896)
series record, NHL only, Preliminary round: 63-6 (.913)

This looks like a tough climb.
