I thought this exact thing too. It was a paradox. Everyone including the TV crews said, shoot on Domingue and test him, he's cold, blah blah. What we ended up doing was warm him up. The key was to shoot on him intelligently, and lobbing unscreened muffins on him was a mistake.

On a leaky guy like Domingue, especially coming into a game like that, you shoot everything you can. He typically has terrible puck/rebound control. But also, hit the god damn net too. lol

They didn't even take the type of shots that generate rebounds.

Everything was elevated muffins that I could stop.

I'm excited for tonight. That was the weirdest game 1 I've ever witnessed. In that way, I think it'll be an easy game to toss and move on from.

I'll be watching Kreider closely, especially. Last game he was way too in his head. It stood out to me that on the PP and the PK he was as effective as ever. He just needs to relax. Zibanejad needs to step up in a huge way too. Shutting down Crosby might be too much to ask of him, but OTOH the best way to do that is to keep the pressure on in the attacking zone: and that means shooting the puck. Way to many times last game, Zib circled the net wide rather than taking the puck--whether carrying it or shooting it--to the net. Worst thing that happens is a stoppage and an O-zone faceoff; best thing is a chance to score or even just some scrambling and disorder for the Pens.

I thought the Panarin line was OK. The Kid line didn't see the ice enough, and the fourth line was cratered by Rooney. Zibanejad and Kreider are the two who really need to shake off last game and show up tonight.

Yeah, the Kreider we saw in Game 1 was not the Kreider we saw the bulk of this season. He was way way way too passive and tentative, seemed like he was overthinking things.
I specifically remember a chance he had in one of the OT's where I thought he could've drove to the net but settled for a shot from around the top of the circle. Can't have that happen tonight.

If you're going to be shooting everything it needs to have pre-shot movement, traffic in front or you need to shoot at his feet. Fox threw two straight unscreened muffins directly into the logo which is the absolutely the worst thing you could do there.

OT2 against Chad Ruhwedel who is like 5'10" and 180.

Irritated me more than anything else I saw during OT. If he makes a play on you he makes a play on you. If he kept skating he gets a better scoring chance or possibly gets Ruhwedel to commit an infraction that wouldn't have been called, but its better than a shot that has no chance of going in on a goalie that isn't Georgiev.

Shoot the puck every chance you get. You're going against a 4th string journeyman AHL goalie.Should be no excuse not to win tonight.

Whats it going to take to get Rooney out of the lineup?
Coach loves him I guess. At this point its probably better to go with the kid line and have Goodrow center the 4th line and Rooney out. Coach probably scared to do that in case he's stuck in a situation where he needs to move Goodrow up. Early in season it looked like he had some semblance of hockey skills. Last game he looked like our worst forward and that's saying a lot.
