I thought this exact thing too. It was a paradox. Everyone including the TV crews said, shoot on Domingue and test him, he's cold, blah blah. What we ended up doing was warm him up. The key was to shoot on him intelligently, and lobbing unscreened muffins on him was a mistake.
Joe finally stopped his 'no such thing as a bad shot' mantra the past few years, but is still lurks in the depths below. All it takes is a changing of the goalie and he becomes one of the fans in the crowd yelling SHOOOOOOOT when Strome has the puck unscreened at the sideboards. Make those first 3 or 4 shots a challenge instead of nice comfy warm up session, was infuriating to see those obvious 2 feet above the ice light point shot heaves with defenders pressuring hard from center ice forcing the shot to obviously go short side leading to as easy a no rebound chest save save as can be imagined just because 'cold goalie must shoot puck no matter what!'

Honestly, if they cant tie it up at home after that crazy loss, with Igor vs that kid then I don't know about this team.

3 series got tied up last night, it's the usual progression of a tight series anyway.

The only wildcard is the f***ing refs. I really hate talking about them ALL the time vs the Pens and people say its childish to complain, but when you literally are having games dictated by them (trouba boarding to give them a 5 on 3 to give them a goal, taking away a game winner, not calling multiple icings and a boarding on Crosby vs other non-calls to give the Rangers a PP, etc.) its impossible not to.

A lot of people use this term often. This will be the first time I’m using it this year.

This is an absolute must win. Not just for our playoff hopes, but for our guys to even get the maximum benefit of having made the post season at all. If we go down 2-0, obviously it puts our chances of making a run very low, but it also is demoralizing for a young roster that needs playoff experience. We need to tie this series, we need to pay Igor back for a damn near historical night in net and we need to put it Pittsburgh like we were able to all regular season and send them home wondering how they can hang with us. The big guns need to show up and the team cannot have any flat starts to any period.

Was Game 1 a must-win? Dramatic to say that it is after the fact.

I will say that the Rangers will have no one to blame but themselves if they lose tonight. I am confident they wont.
I think it was, because we are unproven. Looking forward to them proving a lot more the rest of the series.

What kid? Domingue? He's a 30 year old never was.

If you're talking about the refs 7 hours before puck drop you're beat already as a fan. Would assume/hope it's not in the players heads.

Panarin and Copp are visibly and noticably injured. my expectations for what they can do are really low right now.

KZV was f***ing horrid and a big part of it was Kreider. He looks exactly the same as he did the last 10 games and that's not a good thing. Vatrano tries but he needs to get fed the puck to be effective and that's not happening right now. Zibanejad had a really bad first half of the game but I think he came on the 2nd half of the 3rd period and in OT.

The problem is that the playoff virgins were actually quite good, it's the vets that were bad. Chytil was barreling in on the forecheck and hard on the puck. Laf destroyed a few people but I don't think he took enough control offensively. Kakko was doing some strong board work and puck protection but is still extremely gun shy. Fox played very well (I strongly disagree with the people saying he was just "ok"), KAM was our best skater, Shesterkin put up one of the best goaltending performances I've seen in a very long time. Lindgren was playing pretty well except for his horrible positioning on Guentzel's second goal. I even thought Schneider was fine, considering the circumstances. Trouba was horrendous and very lucky KAM bailed him out several times. TBH he looks hurt too.

I even thought Strome was good. Yeah he missed a total gimme from Fox because his hockey IQ sucks asshole but he was really strong otherwise, particularly noticeable with how hurt Panarin and Copp look.

I think Rooney has to sit. The 4th line were a Pittsburgh PP every time they stepped on the ice and he was the worst offender. Literally f***ing gave the puck to Malkin 2-3 times that game. Gallant purposely matching them up against Crosby and Malkin is a mistake that should not be made again.

I think they learned a few things from this game but if we're gonna get the same performance out of Kreider, Zibanejad, Trouba, and the 4th line we might as well just stay home.
besides a highlight sh goal

I don't wanna hear about Panarin or anyone else nursing an injury. Every team in these playoffs has guys playing injured. Having said that I thought Panarin played decent last game.

Kreider, aside from the goal, looked A LOT like last year's Kreider.

Half assed shots from way to far out that have a <1% of going in, unwillingness to engage physically when he wasn't putting Guetzel in a standing Guillotine, no net drive, lots of coasting to get to loose pucks, etc. He had NO problem getting on his horse and getting up ice for his SH goal so it's not like it isn't there but they need more from him.

This was arguably his worst performance of the season. When you factor in that Panarin also looked like December Panarin and Trouba looked like 2020 Trouba, it's a minor miracle that we would have ended up winning this game had the league done its job.

All 3 of them needs to be better. I'm confident that we'll see a better Kreider tonight as he hasn't allowed ass performances to pile up for him.
