Bro, its game 1. Penguins do not scaree in the slightest. Their game is simple, shut down stretch passes. Slow old team. No excuses

Sorry to disagree, this was a quality learning experience do to the fact they went toe to toe with a very experienced playoff team. Hopefully they get past that crappy second period. This Is a very young inexperienced team and are very resilient. Yes it’s a downer to lose this game but they can get the advantage back by winning one in sh'tsburgh. On to Thursday.

Losing at home we instantly lost home ice advantage. Winning in shitsburgh is going to be tougher than you think, esp with the ref homerism. It was a great learning experience for our young team and will continue to be as long as we can win a game or two before being ousted. The penguins may have a simple game but they continue to beat teams with it and beat us tonight. Honestly besides the 1st period i think our team was terrible. Igor kept us in that game.

True on to the next one, but i still have little faith now with lindgren hurt, braun in, nemeth staying, our top players lost and confused.

Schneider-Nemeth was overwhelmed often.

That game was a little like the New Jersey game after the deadline. This year's team gets the benefit of the doubt for me: I think they'll show up for game 2.
I thought all three pairs were. Specifically Lindgren, Trouba and both Nemeth and Schneider. I think that one adjustment they need to make is that if there's no play, don't hold onto it in the corner, chip it high out. Do not even hold onto it for more than 1 second. Keep it moving.

This game was lost when we didn't put them away in the 1st period.

This is why I didn't want to play the Pens. Any questionable call will undoubtedly go their way-- we are already dealing with the hockey gods doing everything in their power to bounce the puck against us.

Probably too much to overcome.

Same shit the last 15+ years

Rough night for Panarin and Kreider as well (other than the goal).

Our forwards seemed to be far too comfortable just opting for lazy, half-hearted dump and chase attempts over attempting to gain the zone with possession. It seemed like a lot of them were more focused on not losing the game than on winning the game. That type of behavior is tolerable when it's players like Hunt or Goodrow but when it's players like Panarin and Kreider that's a very bad sign. I feel like Reaves gained the zone with possession more than those guys did if you factor in ice time differential.

There are small but obvious changes that many of us have been clamoring for that would have helped this game.

Remove Strome from Panarin's line. I actually didn't hate the way Strome played other than him missing that one timer with the open net in the second OT but Panarin goes into facilitator mode whenever Strome is on the ice and within 100 yards of him. He just shows no interest in being an attacker when he's on the ice with Strome.

Kakko needs to be on the second line with Kreider and Zibanejad. I think there's an argument to be made he was our best forward tonight. Vatrano had chemistry with Kreider and Zibanejad early but that's mostly worn off. Kakko needs to play more, plain and simple.

Also, Miller is an absolute beast.

Worst part of tonight (well the second worst) was that a lot of what happened tonight proved every naysayer right. The NYR got severely outplayed at even strength and relied on Shesty to bail them out. Super disappointing.
They did not get severely outplayed. They had 1 PP and had 70 SOG and plenty of scoring opportunities. They just lost a 3OT game.

Kevin Lowe-Six time Stanley Cup Champion was being interviewed after the Rangers went down 3 games to 2 against the New Jersey team. In that interview in 1994 he said all championship teams have to overcome some type of adversity to help them focus on the goal.
Well, let’s hope that this was our team’s focusing moment.
I for one believe it is.
LGR!!!

They did that all night, flip plays to the neutral zone and pucks off the glass and out. That's why they got killed, they could counter Pittsburgh's aggressive forecheck. It all starts with the breakout and the Rangers are subpar. Then you just hand the puck back to Pittsburgh and that's that.

I still can’t get over how bad kreider, zib, panarin all played

The kid line was our best line at times

Schneider was at fault for the last goal, had the puck on the corner and instead of going high off the glass he holds it….why??? I have no f***ing idea

Shesty and Artemi were both in god mode tonight. Kid line was our 2nd best line. Very impressed with how Kakko made some plays that showed some real balls. Laffy was a hitting machine but I am still seeing the same shyness with the puck that we always see. Not much from the Zibby line at even strength. This is going to be a grind of a series and great experience for our youth.

The zebras were f***ing ridiculous. The NHL will do ANYTHING to protect their precious golden boy Crosby. 1 penalty in 7 periods is absurd. It's Lakers v Kings, David Stern level of absurd bullshit.

This should've been a 4-3 win, thankfully it's only game 1. Though I don't know if the Rangers can pull these off with these corrupt ass refs.

Also, f*** Crosby with a rake.
