Pretty sure posts and cross bars don't count as goals. And if Matthews shot off the post (with Swayman out of the net) goes in, we may all be singing a different toon today.

Agreed, Bruins got good looks too. But outside of Colye's post from close range, Samsonov was out to lunch on the others.

I don't worry about Marchand getting hit. Makes him play better. He'll get the better of it before the night is out.
Guess I should of said if the had gone in.
Some say size doesn't matter. In this case an inch made a difference. Still they got those shots past Samsonov. Leafs are going to score eventually. Hard to keep them off any score sheet. It's a matter of keeping them to a minimum.

There's a guy on Youtube that does videos under the name The Hockey Guy. He claims to be fans of 3 teams; Vancouver, Dallas, and Boston. I agree with him about 60% of the time.
Today someone sent him a question asking which team did he think overachieved the most this season. His answer was the Capitals.
Seriously? Ya mean overachieved more than a team that lost their 1st and 2nd line centers and pretty much replaced them with JVR and still finished with 109 points.
Hockey Guy, you're a complete idiot.
The Hockey Guy is a legend and an international treasure. I will not tolerate this slander!

Good game.
What I found interesting was that the Leafs outshot the Bruins 36-24.
So Toronto outshot the Bruins better defense and Boston relied more on their goalie.
And Toronto's weaker defense allowed less shots on goal, but their goalie was not as good.

The shot count is not really a thing in this context once you sift through it.

First, tack on 5 posts for Boston (that won't show up there). Then, consider the third period when the game is basically done where shots are like 12-3 Leafs. It's already 4-0, it's over. Bruins are just keeping the Leafs to the outside, killing a few penalties. The third period was the Corsi Cup for Toronto.

That game wasn't particularly close, and if you play it 10 times very often it could have ended 7-2 kind of thing. Swayman made a few big saves, but then largely had a lot of gimme short range ones banged into his pads, and a lot of peripheral easy shots he saw all the way.

Meanwhile we screened the Toronto goalie SO well.

Btw can you think of one time last night where a Bruin passed up a shot you think he should have taken?

All year probably 4 a game. I can't think of one last night.

Also I can only count maybe twice last night where the Bruins clear was limp and frustrating. All the rest were purposeful hard clears, barely any giveaways. They have a really simply gameplan and a super frustrating forecheck. Master coaching by Monty.

Plus the other team's best d is used for Pasta and Brad so that helps our third and fourth line
You're so lucky to be at those games. Will you be there Wednesday? Did you see many leaf fans in attendance? What was your take of the maple leaf bench (nervous? frustrated? disorganized?)...Many questions for the lady in the stands. Always love hearing your take.

Hell baby
My only negative is Bruins need to find a way to generate more shots .It's been a disturbing trend all season and big reason I wanted Leafs over Tampa.Might take additions in off season maybe, but it's clearly one big issue.
They’re a quality over quantity team on offense and they’re defensive structure when going well keeps teams taking low % shots. They’re gonna lose the shots war against good teams more often than not

We sit right next to the Bs bench so don't know how scared the Leafs were

We will be there tomorrow but we are not going to the games in Toronto.

There were fewer Leaf fans there than I thought there would be

We feel very lucky to sit where we sit... broke but lucky

Monty changed the philosophy of the team ever since he took over to look for better opportunities to score instead of looking for opportunities to shoot, which was the Cassidy philosophy when he was here. Sometimes that means holding off on the shot to work their way into better position, wait for a screen, etc etc.

Bruins turned to lead protection 17:34 2nd period at 4 zip.

East coast big bruin fan contention.

Bruin fandom in Canada? My guess is the Bobby Orr influence.
I know alot of Bruins fans in Eastern Canada .Halifax there are thousands and Cape Breton alot as well.I am sure Orr was big part of it and parents passed that on but for myself it was simply ,I was not rooting for the Habs whom my cousins all cheered for

That's fair but alot of them are not quality either. They would never beat Vasi 4 out of 7 generating 25 shots a night in my humble opinion.Samsonov a different story obviously

There are barely 100 people where I work less than 2 hours from Toronto.

And there are more Bruins fans than Leafs fans.

It really is underestimated how many Bruins fans there are north of the border.
Exactly. Here in the Montreal area and its suburbs, there are A LOT of Bruins fans. The story I've been told on the origins from my dad and uncles goes like this - when he/they came over to Canada in the late 60's, the Canadiens were far superior to all the other teams, except when the B's gave them their stiffest competition in the 70's. [ Also insert Bobby Orr factor here ] No one wanted to see the Habs win, so they all started pulling for the only team who could compete with them, plus, the old lunch pail concept was in line with the European ideology of hard work, so there you have it for an affinity that just remained deeply engrained.

Call it living dangerously (or stupidly), but this is how I get around in Montreal (never vandalized belive it or not):

Loved the game but I am telling you all right now - if they don’t clean up their zone exits they are gonna be in real trouble. Hampus in particular was awful on this level.

Great win but they have another gear in the form of defensive responsibility and they’d better find it.
I agree. Toronto will be much better tomorrow. The Bruins better be ready to match it. Enjoyed the game but there is room to improve.

I expect the Leafs to compete harder in game 2. They’re a lot better than they showed last night. Goaltending should continue to be an issue for them though.

Marchand really showed maturity last night. The old Marchand would’ve been baited into penalties by Domi. Captain Marchand played it perfectly. He was a leader last night.

Onto game 2

Agreed. B’s played well. But that win was more a result of them being opportunistic and capitalizing on the Leafs breakdowns. Bruins absolutely need to play a better game going forward.

Lindhold is an enigma. I thought he finished really strong in last 6-8 games of the season and thought he could be an x factor in the playoffs, but he had a rough game, especially as time and space are diminished.

Lindholm was fine, could he be better of course but he was responsible for keeping
plays alive in the Ozone.

When he's paired with Charlie guess where the puck is going on the Leafs dump ins

I think there are a few factors, and we’ve already touched on a couple.

1. Bobby Orr was larger than life, and my friends and I knew all about him even though we were too young to remember him on the Bruins. It’s natural that people everywhere would root for him and the Bruins.

2. WSBK TV38 had a powerful UHF signal that reached into Canada and fed anyone who wanted it a steady diet of Bruins hockey. Almost kind of a “Radio Free Europe” kind of thing. Winning of hearts and minds.

3. Lastly, some people just want to be different. The Bruins image and culture of being “bad guys,” “rebels” and “tough guys” has tremendous appeal to some people.

I love the guy and his post game analysis. My Bruins experience isn’t complete until I catch his 20 minute bit the next day. He is knowledgable and hilarious and a true Bruins fan. If you haven’t, check him out.

The biggest one for me was the 29 straight years in the playoffs. Always at the dance with a chance to win why cheer for anyone else.

Btw, patty trolling the red line in warmups is very much hammer v nail mentality and in hereeeee for it
In last year’s leafs/bolts series he yelled “get over here Marns I’m gonna kill you” or something like that while both benches were chirping…reminded me of the one-legged man in the Tenacious D movie: “come over here so I can stab you” lol
