Last decade or two has no relevance to these current teams, especially Toronto who is an entirely different team

What argument are you and him even making. During the leafs core time, let's say the last 8 years, which team has had more playoff success? To my memory Boston has multiple second round appearances and a Stanley cup final appearance. The leafs had a parade because they won a round for the first time in 20 years and immediately got crushed by Florida.

Ok

Who on Boston was close to Nylander in points? Only Pastrnak. Imagine Boston losing him.

The teams are built differently. Losing your second highest point producing player and goalscorer hurts a team that needs to outscore their problems.

If he's out for the series that's a huge break for Boston.

Pastrnak did nothing in this game and Bruins steamrolled Toronto.

That's weird because there is a story on today's Sportsnet site where their " experts " picked the winners from all the opening round series and almost all of the picks there are different from the above list.

Jeff Marek: Maple Leafs in 7
David Amber: Maple Leafs in 6
Christine Simpson: Maple Leafs in 7
Caroline Cameron: Maple Leafs in 7
Justin Bourne: Maple Leafs in 6
Nick Kypreos: Maple Leafs in 7
Luke Fox: Bruins in 7
Mark Spector: Maple Leafs in 7
Iain MacIntyre: Bruins in 5
Sam Cosentino: Maple Leafs in 6
Jamal Mayers: Maple Leafs in 7
Eric Engels: Maple Leafs in 6
Jason Bukala: Bruins in 7
Ryan Dixon: Maple Leafs in 6
Wayne Scanlan: Bruins in 7
Sonny Sachdeva: Bruins in 7
Rory Boylen: Bruins in 6

Of course - maybe a few of these Toronto slurping morons like Luke Fox, Iain MacIntyre, Jason Bukala, Wayne Scanlan and Rory Boylen simply sobered up and legitimately changed their picks. :dunno:

All Leafs media and fans have severely underestimated the Bruins centres. They are bigger, faster and stronger than all the leafs centres and that includes Matthews. So many fancy stats are being thrown around like slot shots but the truth is that this version of the Leafs is sloppy as ever and they turn the puck over in bad spots on the ice constantly. They have also become undisciplined with Domi and Bertuzzi on this team.

Leafs now have some guys who take stupid penalties. That by ittself isn't neccessarily a problem if you are good at killing off the dumb penalties . Leafs however are bad at killing penalties.

That’s a cool quote. But it was mostly Tkachuk who impacted that series. Tkachuk started to be a heavy irritant around the time Florida was about to be bounced. And around the same time, each team got a couple of guys back from injury. Bergeron came back for Boston and Florida got Bennett back. Bergeron is a HOFer but at that moment in time, Bennett was a more impactful player. The combination of Tkachuk and Bennett was too much sandpaper for Boston.

I do not see the leafs getting past Boston without a healthy Nylander, and they were already going to be hard pressed anyways.Leafs played like it was still the regular season in game 1.Played like they were missing Nylander, and no adjustments from the coaches.A very good reg season team.No heart in the playoffs as usual.Rinse lather repeat, but i hope i,m wrong...but probably not.

Since scoring his 69th, Matthews has now gone 29 shots on goal and 11 missed shots (six wide, two over, one post, one short, one cross) without scoring.
That's shocking.

Toronto did not lose because Nylander wasn't there, they lost because the Leafs are badly constructed, they have spend all their cap money on 4 players and have nothing left for defense and goaltenders. Look at the Bruins they have 1 player making over $10M and they are able to have a balanced line up and two elite goalies. Let's see what the Leafs are made of next game!!
