I give him a little slack on that 2nd goal because of how long he was on the ice.

Doesn't matter if that was the only minutes he played all game, you're never fresh 1.5+ minutes into a shift.

He was the one who started the whole mess with a failed clearing attempt.

We got rattled, started to run around and our systems broke down as a result. Topped off by that Kadri penalty.

We need to keep our composure. We had the game in our hand well into the second period, we just need to continue playing like that and we can get a win.

I'm going to guess that they put Moore in and move Plekanec up. That's a huge loss for us. The other option would be to insert Johnsson and move Nylander into the center spot.
I noticed it when we played Winnipeg and didn't think anything of it. We got so rattled when Scheifele hit McBackup and then Gardiner took that retaliatory penalty. Things just broke down for us. And now it happened again sadly. it looks like it's too easy to get the Leafs off their game

If Kadri is suspended. I think it will be best to move Marner in Willie's spot. Dress Johnsson and put him with Kap and have Willie center that line. Then have Marleau-Plek-Leo for the 4th line.

What frustrates me most is how much that crowd and home ice advantage played a part.

We finished THIRD in the east. This shouldn’t be a problem for us.

Also, Babs continues to shoot himself and this team in the foot. Komarov on the PP? Playing at all? Our fourth line against their first line? Stupid decisions that cost us.

You forgot the one where he didnt challenge the Bruins first goal, which was offside.

Some thoughts:

- Matthews and Nylander completely invisible tonight. They'll come back stronger next game. Nylander reminds of Kessel in the way that they are both terrified of engaging in physical play. Not that I blame Nylander, he's already had a pretty nasty concussion
- Kadri started off really well, his physical play was great and didn't deserve that first penalty. The 5 minute major was an incredibly stupid and a play by somebody who's given up on the game. I'm all for sticking up for your teammates but that was not the right way to do it
- Komarov played alright but we need speed to beat these guys. That's evident by our only goal of the game. Johnsson should be in for Komarov next game.
- Marner played pretty well and was really really good on the power play. I think that's encouraging considering his lacklustre series against Washington last year
- JVR and Boak did nothing which isn't particularly surprising
- Zaitsev had a pretty good game, he was engaged after a pretty timid start which initially worried me
- Dermott and Kapanen both played well but showed their rookie status at time
- How many games in this series will Andersen let in less than 3 goals. That really worries me. I know he needs to make a lot of saves, but against a guy like Rask we can't afford to be in high scoring games.
- Lots of posters already giving up on this team. Its been 1 game. Lots of hockey left.

LOL what is with you people?

Boston was running over us in the 1st period and that first goal being called back could have changed the tempo of the entire game.

Take the god damn risk, especially when there was a case to be made.
yeah there's no excuse honestly. The whole point of having a hockey genius like Babcock is he's supposed to know when to make the right call and challenge a play

Everyone on the roster needs to be given one piece of homework: ensure you throw all your weight into a hit on Chara at least twice a game. Get that fear out of you and put some wear and tear on him.

Not great that's for sure

- Andersen has to be better
- We can't get filled in on special teams like that again
- our best players have to be our best players, they weren't tonight
- we can't start like that in the next game, it wasn't good enough
- we can't break down systematically like we did tonight, we were fine early but it turned into a **** show
- I do think some lineup and personnel decisions need to be rethought as well

On to the next one and hope Kadri isn't suspended for to long I guess

Eh when you’re overrated and overpaid these things happen.

Im sure we can all agree that Plekanec is an absolute brick. I would put Moore in over him without hesitation

Plekanecs line was much better before Komorov came back though. Wanna see that change and then adjust matchups a little.

That or the potential goalie interference on the 4th goal. Especially the fourth goal, what’s he have to lose at that point. Even if he fails the game is as good as done anyway if it counts, and it was.

Doesn't help that we got killed the last 22 minutes (mostly due to penalties) . They looked great for most of the 2nd, didn't convert, then had some silly mistakes late.

pretty much. that's where the game was lost. like most of the games that we've lost all season, it's usually one moment in time where the leafs tend to snowball. that happened on the Backes/Pasta goal.

and imo, the response was okay until the too many men penalty, then the (wrong) penalty on Naz and then the really bad charge (which, imo. was a very very bad penalty for him to take. I get why he did it, but honestly, i hope he doesn't get suspended. I know someone was like people are calling him to be suspended, which is not the case, but Doughty got suspended for an elbow to the head. so it would be interesting to see how this gets called by the DPS. and if he does we're in trouble for game 2, but maybe we'll adjust.. We've won a lot w/o our best player, we can make due 1 game w/o our 2nd centreman).

speaking of which, there is going to be the typical mud-flinging at Babcock and his decisions re: komarov, but he wasn't (imo) the issue tonight more or less. Matty/Will, Tyler/JVR could have been a lot better, and i do expect they will be. You barely heard Matthews name at all tonight. i can count on one hand in two years when that's happened. i doubt that will happen on Saturday. big games from him

Oven then stomach
You can’t tell me babcock isn’t trying to throw the game when he’s got komarov on the PP.
Leafs PP was league tops with Komarov on it. Just think of him as a lucky horseshoe or whatever, it's ridiculous to bring THAT up as something that should be addressed. How about looking at rate we draw penalties, our faltering PK, the amount of time Hainsey plays, etc.

THIS

As for tonight's game, I thought Zaitsev had a really good game tonight and Dermott didn't look too bad either. Same with Polak. Rielly, Gardiner and Hainsey could have been better but this was just one game.
As for the forwards, the big-3, just did not do enough tonight. Kadri's outburst was dangerous and should keep him suspended for a game or two but it's really pathetic how he's been the only physical player on the team. I'd like to think that his performance lit a spark in our flaccid veterans tonight. I'm really interested in how Babcock's going to match lines from this point forward--I read a post of Twitter that showed that the Leafs' possession numbers drop at home (when Babcock has last change) as opposed to on the road...which was kind of interesting. With all the talk about our lack of physicality, I'm ironically pining for Johnsson and Leivo more than Martin.

I could see benefits of Martin or Johnsson in. Or both. Plekanec is godawful and doesn't play any role well. He's like medium speed mediocrity on skates. With Johnsson, you get another Kapanen. With Martin, you get someone to soften up the Bruins a little.
