This is not a must win. This is obvious. Losing this we still hold court. And head home where we play really well and are very tough to beat. Momentum or not, Tampa can't keep up with us. They are too slow when we play our game. And we always come to play at MSG.

True we let them back into the series blowing a two goal lead in Game 3, but we weren't gonna sweep the Stanely Cup Champs anyway. And we didn't exactly play our best game and was still was right there, right up to the last minute of play.

This series is a mismatch. Tampa can't compete with us. We play our game Tampa is toast. The only way Tampa wins,.. is if we are not playing our game. It's got nothing to do with what they bring.

No team is gonna lay down for you. You have to take it from them. And we have shown, even before this series started,.. that we have the tools and the ability to do just that.
If last week you said a TB vs NYR series would be a mismatch in favor of the rangers you wouldve been laughed at, and I am one of the people that in the midst of the canes series thought NYR would give TB a harder series than the canes would. The rangers are proving to be a good team just like many of us said they were for months, but the chest thumping around here is getting out of hand.

Not nearly as nervous for this one as I was for G3. I just knew that this team was going to reach deep into their bag of f***ery to find a way to bungle that game.

I think they get handled pretty easily tonight but its fine, they've played their best and pulled out games when they absolutely need to.
I have a good feeling about tonight. I think we win.

Absolutely nothing to go off of besides intuition

I still believe we win this series, when we play our game we're too fast for Tampa, but we are gonna go down in flames in the final, Colorado is just too good.

Id argue it should be Brodzinski myself.
Maybe so, but we have the great equalizer. Shesty. I am much more concerned with playing in the high altitude and they have home ice. Reason why I wanted Edmonton.
IMO we have played better teams than they have. Will still be quite exciting, regardless. Hard to fathom they will be popping in 5, 6 or 7 goals vs Igor, whereas I could see that we would.

How many of these stats have we proven wrong the past 9 years?

Doesn't matter. Meaningless to mention.
This is far from meaningless.

This isn't a stat like Tampa has won 18 straight games after a loss. Or that they won, how many consecutive playoffs series? These are stats that always come to an end.

The Conference Finals stat (92-7) has a large sample size, which means these results couldn't happen by chance. And it suggests that there is a strong correlation with teams that win the first two games, belong in the Stanley Cup Finals, because they are the better team. Colorado just showed it and so will we.

There is nothing the Rangers have done in these playoffs, to suggest this remarkable stat won't hold true.

The probability of NYR winning three 7 game series is only high before they win one and then the second. Just like rolling three 4's on a six sided die is 216 to one, but once you roll the first two 4's the odds of rolling the third goes to 6 to one... We already won two game 7's that doesn't make our odds of winning the third one any worse.
This isn't rolling dice when fatigue and injuries become a part of the equation. More games means more wear and more tear, and that is a factor in a playoff run. Only one team has ever played three game sevens in the first round and yes it was the 2014 kings, but that is a complete anomaly.

10% is a fake number. There is literally 0 statistical analysis to back this up. In fact, I'd guess that if you looked into teams that win the first 2 at home and then lost the next 2 on the road, still probably come out >50% of the time. So it's very likely that 50/50 is closer to the actual odds versus your absurd, pessimistic number.
Are you guys serious? Because I toss out a completely subjective 10 percent number based on nothing but my opinion you're coming at me with a statistics lesson? Don't you have anything better to do than overreact to my subjective opinion?

Your gut is telling you the same thing mine is. This team is probably regretting that lost opportunity last game, and will do their best in making up for it. I forsee a very similar 5-2 Rangers win. Maybe tonight's the night Shesty gets his goal.

This team is a statistical anomaly.. I don't see why it stops now. There's a reason the analytic nerds and pundits 'dislike' us. We defy the 'unsustainable'. If anything, it'd be weird for it to stop now

It would be even more the sweeter when/if we dethrone the defending champs and their darling team in Colorado.

Igor is the statistic anomaly, dont kid yourself

He hasn't been able to all season, which is a worry. Posters observed he was not in great physical shape coming out of pre-season and he really hasn't gotten that much better. This makes me wonder how significant the injury from the Wilson smash really was. And if not that, what the issue really is.
I can tell you the injury was significant and it did have a lasting impact into the summer that required a lot of "support" from the rangers org from what I was told . You can make of that what you want but I am not going to disclose more than that here. If I mod needs to verify the source of this they can pm me but I have already been vetted...

what does that matter? We're still defying odds.

Special teams and Igor. The sustaining unsustainable
I understand that, I was one of the people advocating in season that this team could ride that combo to a deep run. All I am saying is the anomaly starts and ends with igor. Thankfully he is a part of this team.

go on....

head shoulder or back?

was he ahead of the team? Able to shoulder the burden? Do we want him back?

Feel like they must win this game if they want to win the series. Doesn't mean it needs to happen, just how I feel about the series. Don't let them get fully off the mat. We floored them the 1st two games. After Game 3, they're back to one knee. If you let them get back up, even with home ice, I'm not sure how this goes.

I do know that if the Rangers win tonight, that period 1 of Game 5 will be the toughest period that this group has ever played. You have to kill this team. They'll have to kill them tonight too.

Has the media always been so cringe during these pre/post game interviews? "Fil have you caught yourself by surprise with how much you are scoring this post-season?" What kind of questions are these? lol

thought the post was pretty clear regarding the fact I wont disclose more here. Just confirming there was a significant injury that impacted part of his summer. I'm not going to out more info and risk burning bridges or getting someone into shit, especially considering the nature of the person that info came from.

The one thing that has given me confidence with this team is their resiliency in these playoffs.
They got beat badly in games 3 and 4 in round 1, and went on to win 3 straight games and the series.

Down again in round 2 with no answer for the Canes who looked unbeatable at home. They reeled off 2 straight wins and clobbered them in one of the best game 7 road wins I've seen as a hockey fan.

I haven't seen anything from TB so far that has given me doubt the NYR can win this series.
Play strong at even strength, capitalize on the man advantage. play smart and they'll win.

Seriously.

These are professional athletes who work on their craft every day. If they didnt have confidence in their abilites they wouldnt be where they are, they wouldve quit at it a long time ago.

If last week you said a TB vs NYR series would be a mismatch in favor of the rangers you wouldve been laughed at,.....
LOL! That's funny because that is exactly what I did. I made this prediction even before we finished off the Canes. I think it was Game 6. Under the caveat if we get past Carolina, we would end up in the Stanley Cup Finals. That Tampa was no match for us. Can't match our speed and tenacity. And that home ice cements our victory over them.

And I have been reiterating this ever since on these boards, and listed the reasons why, many times.

So I don't know where you have been, because yes, I did get blow back for it. But as more time passes, it becomes less of an outlandish prediction and more of what it really is,.... something that is fairly obvious would happen.

If you like I can repost the dozens of post showing my bold prediction and reasons why.

I didn't make any bold predictions in beating the Canes or Pens. Knew they would be tough series. And I certainly don't like our chances vs Colorado, not with them having home ice. But as I said, Tampa is just a mismatch. and I am confident we will advance.

Go watch Coop's press conferences. He is a very smart and articulate coach. Very good in evaluating situations. And you will see, he is not exactly brimming with confidence. Been sighing a lot during his pressers. He knows the score and knows he's up against it.

extremely nervous about tonight but I know the boys can pull a W out of their hat. If we do lose it isn't time to hit the panic button but it would sure as shit hurt knowing those 2 wins at MSG meant virtually nothing

please let's put this Tampa team on their knees

Fox and Zibanejad are posting numbers that we haven't seen from players in the playoffs since 1994.

It's more than just Igor.
Out of the remaining 3 teams in the playoffs... Zibanejad is #1 in points and Fox is #2. Only MacKinnon has more goals (11) than Zibanejad (10) & Kreider (10).

Also Kreider is one goal away from not only taking over the franchise lead in playoff goals (this still f***ing baffles me and speaks more to the organization's overall ineptitude) but from also putting up the highest goal output by a player in franchise history in a single regular season+playoffs.

I don't even think hes been great in these playoffs and he still has 10 goals.

Wouldn't say that they mean nothing.

Winning those games means that at the very least we get to drag Tampa into deeper waters.

Means nothing if we lose the series other than we did Colorado a solid.
