More Mojo making. I just called my 93-year-old father to remind him that I'm recording ESPN on his TV so he can watch the game when he wakes up tomorrow. Here's the MOJO: All my life, my father has told this story. My dad lived in Washington Heights and was a huge Ranger fan. He and his buddies sat up top on benches at the old MSG. One would get there early, lay across the bench, and the others could show up just before game time. My dad said it was like having season tickets, It was crazy, he says, because guys from other neighborhoods would do the same thing and by midseason it was almost pointless to send a guy up there early. Each group of guys had their own spots set.
Anyway, the Mojo factor is the
Bob DeCourcy story. My dad told this story since I can remember. He's at a game and the Ranger goalie gets injured just before the end of the period. There's a delay. A guy comes in and makes a couple of saves. Before the start of the next period, the rink announcer says, "That's young Bob DeCourcy in net for the Rangers, replacing the injured Chuck Raynor. DeCourcy is only 19-yearsold and this is his first NHL appearance." Something along those lines. As my dad recalls, the
"Kraut Line" of Boston lit up with excitement. And goals. They scored with their first shot of the period and kept scoring.
I've heard that story my whole life, but I can't believe I just found the links. They're from Wiki, above in Red. It's MOJO boys. We'll win tonight.
