It's funny that the trading AI, computer to computer, is so bad, but an inhuman GM will never trade a top player to the human player no matter what

Mhmm, impending ufa on a basement team who’s not going to re-sign? Forget it. Untouchable. Late 20’s-early 30’s player on a rebuilding team who won’t be around by the time they’re any good? Untouchable. Offering them a player in an area of need for a comparable player in an area of surplus? How dare you!?

The trading used to be way too easy back in the day but now it’s impossible to land a good player. They have no problem giving away draft picks, though. I routinely use the offer to all feature for young players I don’t feel will make it with me or when I need to clear some rights to get my reserve list in order and the offers are downright stupid. In 2023, Edmonton wanted to give me their first, second, and a good goalie prospect drafted in the second the year before for…Ethan Bear who couldn’t make my lineup.

Got back into ehm for the first time in years during the playoffs. I’m a couple seasons in and things are going pretty well. My god is it ever hard to trade for anyone good in this game, though. I’ve been able to acquire players made available and I usually add a bottom six forward at the deadline but other than that I can’t pull off any trade. Doesn’t matter If I make the trade so lopsided in their favour that it should get me fired, they will never take it.

I have no issue giving up good value - I just absolutely cannot acquire anyone talented for any price it seems. Does anyone have some tips?

Look for who the AI GM's are targetting. Usually near the TDL, teams that are out if playoff will see interest in a good player or two.

Available players see their value plummet - but good available players get snagged real fast, keep an eye open. If I'm in need, I ger some solid support players like that fir almost nothing (grinders, defensive defensemen, 3rd line skilled p'ayers, etc.)

Also, I found some success in offering pieces that the AI say are interested in . eg. If they ask a prospect goalie, then offering Ryan Poehling sucks, but offering Cayden Primeau might get more attention.

And while some swear by not using the "star system", I find it a good indication of value. Three of a level under isually net ome of the next level - assuming good contracts. It's definitely possible to rip off the AI by offering low quality quantity at position they "want".

And to conclude my quick essay on EHM trades...an exploit! In the first year of the game, if you control a shitty team, trade their top pick for the worst team who accepts to give you all their next first rounders - try to get the 2nds even. AI usually accepts and you keep their team shitty and future-poor while enjoying a bonus top pick for half a decade. San Jose for example is a great team to target since they suck and will suck for a while... imagine if they dont even draft !

The trade difficulty was increased from EHM 07 (from what I remember)

in my save, mcdavid only has 16 points in 20 games.. its not just him, other superstars has low goal/assist points..
It's just the way the game is coded. I think McDavid has only won the Art Ross once in many seasons in my recent saves. Usually the actual superstars of the league never win the scoring. It's always a random guy. Often McDavid finishes in the 20s in points, but RNH is top 5

@BKarchitect Just wanna say that I really enjoy your NHLX database! I'm in 2045 now and it's crazy how many players go in and out of the NHL without human intervention,

It's pretty cool to see some teams give up on a player's development, for the player to go kill it in Europe and come back later on as a key piece.

It makes the game feel much more realistic and lively.

A prime example is a player named Stephon Carlow that I drafted 16th OA in 2028. (screenshots below).

After 10 years bouncing around leagues internationally and winning multiple awards, he's been signed to a 1 year, $5M contract by the Washington Capitals. He's 34 years old and leading the NHL defensemen in goals, 6th in points!

I'm not sure what kind of control you guys have when building playable databases, but NHLX is holding really good especially in later years!

ok - so just getting back into this first time in ... well forever - downloaded and installed on Steam.

i haven't read through this thread (will start) - but how is the updating/roster etc.. handled, i presume similar to before. databases are released and we patch them in.

what is the most extensive up to date (best as possible now) database i should be using?

Yes. But also, make sure you are opted into the beta. If you uninstall steam for whatever reason, the opt-in selection may not be checked.

To do this, right click on the game in your library, go to properties, and select the public beta from the drop-down.

@xECK29x does the Pivot database, which is going to be on steam and be the most up to date real roster. To get this database, you just have to subscribe to it on Steam. If you want to make any adjustments, you have to grab the EHM Editor program.

As for not realistic rosters, there are a bunch of good ones that are updated. And can be found in this thread.

What’s everyone’s strategy with scouting assignments and does it have a significant impact at the end of the day? Since I tend to sim seasons quite fast, reassigning scouts to the entry draft every couple months gets tedious.

Assuming we're talking NHL playthrough;

5 scouts on draft 17/18 year olds
2 on NCAA perm
3 on the CHL leagues perm
__________________________

1 on NHL perm
1 on AHL perm

3 euro scouts on perm

After the first draft I move two draft scouts to Youth perm.

By year three I have 3-4 on youth perm and adjust from there.

I assign 5 of my best scouts to "intensive" on the NHL draft in January and April.

If I'm not rushing I set them to scout only players younger than 20 (so 17-18-19 years old).

Gets me good not awesome results.

Can we all agree that this is right up there amongst greatest hockey games of all time? Any news on the development of EHM2?
Not an EHM2 but future patches yes, there is a patch in the works that will add some features to databases to make things more realistic (especially for junior leagues) and fix some long-standing issues. I'll share more when I can.
