It’s not going to fire in year one as it’s set to not schedule during an Olympic year, it should schedule in 2024.
What it wants to do is spawn a schedule 5 years after the date set in the database, so I have it set to load the fixtures on August 1, 2021 for a tournament that doesn't spawn them until 2026 (and says as much when viewing the tournament.), and it does that for each year I set it.

Look at the initial year offset, that is what pushes the date out

This one said 0, which was still running it in a olympic year of 2026, so that threw me off if they're not supposed to run the same year. I changed it to 2, so it sets the schedule in 2021 and runs it in 2023.

Also, is there a way to have NHL (or North American teams) to allow loans to European teams? Kind of one of the last things I'm playing with here.

No that is hard coded in the game unfortunately.

one thing I just now noticed in the 2022-2023 season of the 2000 db, their is both a "Calvin Petersen" and a "Cal Petersen"

also some day soon I will have a rundown of my 20+ year save on the 2000 db!

It feels like the automated answers (when simming) to media availability questions in this game are specifically geared to piss off your players...

in one year I have told the media that my franchise goalie is playing "adequate" hockey, but their is no room for complacency in his game:

he finished the season 46-8-4 with a 2.51 and .917 with 4 shutouts as a 38 year old...

I told the media my alternate captain 1500 career point center, who finished the season with 83 points in 77 games as a 36 year old... doesn't "lead the team" and instead it is I who does so...

and now most recently, I told the media my other alternate captain, who had his best year in a decade, with 17 goals and 56 points as a 39 year old defenseman... is also playing "adequate" hockey, but only in relation to the younger players on the team, and he will have to continue at his current level of play to retain his spot on the team.

this team being one who finished as regular season champions with 122 points, 11 points above anyone else...

this team has also (as a little sneak peak for how well this save has gone) been to 7 straight cup finals, winning 6.

one thing I have noticed over the years is just HOW many players ended up getting drafted by the teams they got drafted by in real life, just a quick glance across the league.

Keller in Arizona

Podkolzin in Vancouver

Calvin Petersen drafted by L.A.

Spencer Knight in Florida

Mackenzie Blackwood in Jersey

Chris Wideman and Mika Zibanejad in Ottawa

Tyler Johnson in Tampa

Carter Hart in Philly

Philippe Myers in Philly (although irl he was undrafted)

Victor Mete is in Montreal

another interesting thing I'd never seen before in the NHL2000 db:

the Washington Capitals signed 35 year old Steven Stamkos in the 25/26 season.

Stamkos scores 28 goals, and 27 assists for 55 points in 48 games... and on January 21 2026? They place him on waivers, he cleared, and they bought him out!

nobody signed him before the deadline so now a player who scored above point per game this year is sitting out the rest of the year... he wasn't injured, doesn't appear to have attitude issues, or anything out of the ordinary...

I wasn't paying enough attention to catch it at the time, so the "news" of what happened has passed... just a weird situation.

Quick update on some of the changes coming up in NHLX for the 2022-23 season:

Lots of new graphics - some updated based on real life, some updated for fantasy aesthetics...

k166Ltv.png

The ESL (Europa Super League) has been expanded from 16 to 18 teams. The last playable version of NHL already had Jokerit and Dinamo Riga - they will remain but as of now have empty rosters. Joining them however for this season are Tappara - the new Finnish champions and at home in the sparkling new arena in Tampere (no worries - they still play city rivals Ilves in the Selanne Cup!) as well as a re-branded and strengthened Sokil Kyiv - to be a bright and shining light for the people of Ukraine!

KY41JPf.png

A big overhaul and beefing up of the hockey development systems of all the hockey playing nations in NHLX. These changes will not be seen right away - but you will see if you play 5 or 10+ years down the road a gradual growth of legitimate prospects in all countries. I wanted to simulate a long-term development that requires patience.

These have been carefully weighted so that top nations produce the most top talent and then tiered down based on hockey importance and relevance in the country. But even minnow nations can now produce European-level pros from time to time while future NHL drafts will really pop with a variety of nationalities. It is even possible to see a "Golden Generation" arrive once in a while from an unexpected nation - although this is far from a guarantee in any given game.

Looking good @BKarchitect !

I'm gonna do a write up in the next couple of days on how my sim (30ish years) of the 2000 db has gone.

It's been really interesting seeing all the things go down over the years, seeing players produce way above their real life counter parts, and some players completely bust compared to real life! I'm in the 2026 off-season, waiting for 3 players who are 39-42 who were a part of my 1st Stanley Cup with Seattle to retire.

I mean, I'm not trying to be a wise guy but coming into a fan thread of die hards asking if you should try it you know we are going to say yes, especially when it costs so little.
Then what better thread to come into and ask?

Anything similar you can compare it to?

Championship Manager (the precursor to Football Manager) is the closest comparison. If you're into hockey or otherwise interested in sports management sims then I'd highly recommend. Given the low price and the number of hours people typically plough into it, it's very good value.

WARNING: HUGE TEXT DUMP AHEAD (I plan on taking way more organized notes next time I want to do this)

ok so I have run into an issue with my save that has prevented me in seeing the retirement of the last 2 core members of my dynasty... the game crashes between Jul 18-19th 2027... I figured it may have been because I tampered with the save to adjust a couple player positions... however 2 things, I did that like a decade ago in game, and I also loaded up a previous save where the positions were not altered, and it still crashed on this specific date... so I am going to post a little write up about how this save went:

I played as Seattle, and while it took us a little while to get going (we finished no higher then 10th in the west for the first 5 years) once we got there we never looked back...

this team won a total of 10 Stanley Cups, went to 14 cup finals, won 14 Presidents trophies, 14 Conference Championships, and a whole slew of individual awards.

the core players in my description are players who won 7 or more cups with us, and 9 players did just so... and an astounding 6 players, or the "super core" (lol) won all 10!

lets start with the Goalie:

Cory Schneider, drafted 7th overall in 2004, was our starter for all 10 cup wins, beginning in the 07/08 season.

Schneider played 1222 games, with an all-time best record of 852-245-92 with a 2.32 goals against average and a .920 save percentage with 52 total shutouts!

Cory won the 2009/10 Vezina, that year he went 51-10-4 with a 2.20, a .926 and 3 shutouts, he would also win 3 William M. Jennings awards, 1 Conn Smythe and had his #35 retired by the Kraken on June 20th, 2027, the same day he was voted in to the hall of fame.

He finished 1st all time in wins, and tied for 3rd in shutouts.

Next, lets move on to 3 defensemen, 2 of which stuck it out with us for all 10 cups.

Alex Goligoski, drafted 25th overall in 2003.

Alex played 1422 games with us, 1666 total.

With Seattle, he scored 174 goals, 627 assists, good for 801 points.

He was with us for 9 of our 10 cup wins.

for his final 3 seasons, Alex would go on to captain his hometown Minnesota Wild, playing 244 games, scoring 17 goals, 144 assists, good for 161 points.

Alex entered the Hall of Fame on January 10th 2025.

Next we have the 2 defensemen who spent their entire careers with Seattle, winning 10 Stanley Cups along the way.

Duncan Keith and Ryan Suter:

Duncan Keith was drafted 3rd overall in 2001.

Keith played all 1920 games for Seattle. Good for 2nd all time behind 2 time team mate Alexander Steen (1947)

Duncan Keith was named the captain of the Kraken after the 04/05 season, where he scored 14 goals, 64 assists for 78 points, finishing second in Norris voting to rookie defender Shea Weber (14-63-77) (Calder, Norris, First team and Rookie Team All-Star, 3rd in Ted Lindsay voting)

Duncan would go on to captain the Kraken until his final season, 2025/2026, and would win the Norris one time, in 2006/2007.

in his career Duncan Keith scored 281 goals, and 968 assists, good for 1249 points, good for 6th all-time among defensemen. (Niedermeyer 1291, MacInnis 1274, Brent Burns 1523, Paul Coffey 1576 and Raymond Bourque 1594)

Keiths number 2 was retired by the Kraken the same day he was announced for the Hall of Fame, July 9th 2026.

Ryan Suter was drafted 10th overall in 2003.

He played all 1793 games with Kraken and served as an alternate captain of the team for more than 20 years, from 2006/2007 until current day (Officially Suter still hasn't retired, at 41/42 years old this season he scored 9 goals and 43 points in 67 games, and has decided to come back for another year at least, but since the save ends this off-season, I'm going to assume he would have been in the HoF, and had his number 4 retired by the team given his numbers)

in 1793 games, Suter scored 221 goals, 784 assists, for 1005 points.

Lastly, their were 5 forwards who won 7 cups with us, 3 of which won 10!

Starting with the oldest, Derek Roy!

Derek Roy was drafted 35th overall in 2001.

he played 17 years, 1175 games, and won 8 cups!

He scored 258 goals, 697 assists good for 955 points!

His number 9 was retired by the team on July 6th 2020, the same day he was announced for the Hall of Fame.

Milan Michalek is up next and this ones a bit of an overachiever who didn't get recognized by the league or the team somehow.

Drafted 9th overall in 2003, he played all of his 1518 games with the Kraken.

in this time, Michalek scored 807 goals (7th all time) 886 Assists, good for 1693 points.

He also wracked up individual accolades, alongside his 10 Cups, he won the Conn Smythe 3 times, 2 Ted Lindsay's, 3 Harts, 2 Art Ross and a Rocket Richard for good measure...

you explain to me why this damn near 1700 point, 800 goal scorer, is NOT in the Hall, and why his number 18 wasn't lifted to the rafters in Seattle.

The last 2 are also victims of "retirement" being forced upon them due to the save crashing.

Anze Kopitar and Bobby Ryan.

Bobby Ryan, drafted 5th overall in 2005.

He played 1747 games, scoring 796 goals (9th all time) 911 assists, good for 1707 points.

over his career he won 10 Stanley Cups, 2 Conn Smythe trophies, 2 Lady Byng's and a Masterton.

Ryan would probably have his number 54 retired by the team, and should make it into the hall.

and last but certainly not least, is my current captain, and franchise leader in assists and points:

Anze Kopitar!

Drafted 6th overall in 2005

he play 1678 games, scoring 687 goals, 1077 assists, good for 1764 points (10th all time)

in his playing career (so far) Anze has won 10 Stanley Cups, 2 Conn Smythe's, 5 Ted Lindsay's and should probably have the Selke named after him, he won it 13 times!

Had his playing career ended during the save I have no doubt in my mind that Kopitar would have entered the Hall of Fame and had his #11 retired by the team!

so, here is a roundup of the Hall of Fame players (2 who weren't in this write-up that played for the team)

#35 Cory Schneider (Number retired)

#2 Duncan Keith (Number retired)
#4 Ryan Suter (Number unofficially retired)
#3 Alex Goligoski (Number not retired)

#9 Derek Roy (Number retired)
#11 Anze Kopitar (Number unofficially retired)
#16 Andrew Ladd (played with us for 770 games, across 2 stints, won 3 cups, Number not retired)
#18 Milan Michalek (Number SHOULD HAVE BEEN RETIRED)
#20 Alexander Steen (played 1058 games with us during 2 seperate stints, won 3 cups, Number retired)
#36 Mats Zuccarello (played 631 games with us, winning 4 cups, Number not retired)
#54 Bobby Ryan (Number unofficially retired)

sorry for the huge text post, I'm gonna start a new save now with Vegas and try and build an even better dynasty!

Well I have decided to load up a new save. I took on Seattle again because I just like their colours and logo better than Vegas.

our year one team was pretty brutal, but played well enough to out-pace Vegas in the standings.

we finished the year 21-57-4, good for 15th in the west, and 31st overall.

for year 1 we named no captains...

Our first goal was scored by Wendel Clark, 1:40 into the 2nd period of our 1st ever game, we would lose the game 3-2 in regulation.

Our first win was recorded in our second game, a 3-2 shootout win vs Vegas, Kirk Daubenspeck started.

had 1 player (Wendel Clark) score 20 (27) goals, and 3 players hit 40 points (Alex Daigle, Wendel Clark and John Gruden)
Seattle year 1 roster.png

for the off-season, we made tremendous shakeups! We signed a big old bunch of players playing overseas, and they have all joined the team as their seasons ended.

in goal we signed:

Tim Thomas from AIK in the Swedish Allsvenskan, he went 38-6-0 with a 1.13 and .959 with 10 shutouts.

Cristobal Huet from Lugano in the Swiss National league, he went 24-2-2 with a 1.42 and .946 with 4 shutouts.

these 2 will split starts hopefully for a lengthy time!

on Defense we signed 3 big prospects from overseas:

Marek Zidlicky from HIFK who played 54 games scoring 17 goals, 52 assists for 69 points.

Mark Streit from ZSC who played 52 games scoring 22 goals and 63 assists for 85 points.

and Jan Hejda from Slavia Praha who played 46 games scoring 10 goals and 40 assists for 50 points.

these 3 make up a really nice, young core to build and grow with.

on forward I wont go into as much detail, but we signed:

Christian Dube, Lonny Bohonos and Pat Falloon out of Switzerland, and Jorgen Jonsson out of Sweden.

next, here is who we drafted in the year 1 draft, from the 3rd position:
Seattle year 1 draft.png

Koivu is expected to sign and join the team for next year!

the rest of the top 10 played out as such:

1. Minnesota Wild Select: C Jason Spezza
2. Vegas Golden Knights select: LW Ilya Kovalchuk
3. Seattle Kraken Select: C Mikko Koivu
4. Columbus Blue Jackets Select: LD Duncan Keith
5. Winnipeg Jets Select: LD Carlo Coliacovo
6. Nashville Predators Select: G Dan Blackburn
7. Montreal Canadiens Select: C Stephen Weiss
8. Calgary Flames Select: RW Ales Hemsky
