I'm not really sure that Vanecek is particularly better than Driedger, but Vanecek can't cost more than like a 3rd to acquire. Better to have extra depth.

Vanecek is still an NHL goalie, Driedger has been bouncing around the AHL the past couple of years. Issue is Vitek kinda sucks come playoffs so it's a double egged sword but he's good depth regardless like you said.

Cost more than a 3rd as they may need a 3rd party to retain and SJ have no retention slots available

Basically.

Giles had a nice camp but had fallen out of the AHL rotation in Charlotte.

With the Chucky injury, probably smart to have another option before going back to the Judge.

Honestly, that's a solid trade for Florida. They don't exactly need the moon or the stars when it comes to backup goaltending, and they got that for almost nothing.

Yeah but they used a pretty big chunk of their LTIR money on him.. 3.4 is a pretty big ticket for a back-up.

Panthers just made the same mistake the Devils made regarding Vanecek. Bob is a well conditioned goalie even at age 36, but you don't want Vanecek ending up being your playoff goalie at all!
