Year 2 was slightly better in terms of record than year one (24-47-11) however the team still finished 15th in the west, and 31st overall.

No captain was named after year 2.

we had 2 players score 20 goals: Mike Sillinger (22) and Cory Stillman (20) and 3 hit 40 points (Stillman 44, Streit and Sillinger 45)

Mark Streit finished 3rd in rookie scoring (9-36-45) behind Brian Gionta (26-20-46) and Mark Bell (26-22-48)

Marek Zidlicky finished 22nd in rookie scoring, but 2nd in rookie defense scoring (5-17-22)

the other rookie we had signed to us, our first round, 3rd overall Mikko Koivu, played 9 games with Seattle, scoring 2 goals and an assist, while being -5. He was sent down to the Coachella Valley Firebirds, where he played 64 games, scoring 35 goals and 40 assists for 75 points, picking himself up the Dudley (Red) Garrett Memorial Award for AHL rookie of the year! Coachella missed the playoffs, and he will be looking to make Seattle full time next season.

We had 4 players represent their countries at the world championships (Huet with France, Zidlicky with Czechia, Streit with Switzerland and Thom Chorske for the USA)

We also had Marek Zidlicky represent Czechia at the Olympic games.

Speaking of Olympics and World Championships... the USA and Tom Chorske defeated Slovakia to acquire the gold medals, and Czechia with Marek Zidlicky defeated Sweden for Bronze.

the team decided it was best to trade away Jorgen Jonsson at the trade deadline, he was unhappy with his ice time and the teams position in the standings, so we moved him to Buffalo for one 2nd and one 3rd round pick.

we signed one major player before the draft, recently bought out 29 year old center Martin Straka, had issues with Pittsburgh general manager Craig Patrick, and after scoring 24 goals and 69 points in 78 games with Pittsburgh, the two parties agreed to terminate his contract.

we also signed a college free agent, winger Tim Jackman of the Minnesota State Mankato Mavericks. Jackman scored 23 goals and 45 points in 34 games as a sophomore.

Here is how our draft looked, we picked 3rd overall again:
Seattle year 2 draft.png

next we will look at NHL awards, and then we will tour Europe to check in on 5 major leagues. (KHL, SHL, Liiga, NL, Czechia)

The Colorado Avanche defeated the Toronto Maple Leafs to win the Stanley Cup. The Edmonton Oilers won the president's trophy.

Anaheim's Teemu Selanne won the Art Ross trophy with 113 points. He beat out teammates Paul Kariya via goals tie breaker (113) and Eric Lindros (96)

the league recognizes top scoring defensemen... this year it was Ak Bars Fredrik Olausson with 38 points.

Brynas IF defeated Frolunda HC to win the Le Matt Trophy. The Stefan Liv award was not given out... (maybe a bug with SHL?)

Czechia: HC Dynamo Pardubice defeated HC Olomouc to win the T.G. Masaryk cup. Rastislav Rovnianek won the playoff MVP.

Major Departures:

C: Jorgen Jonsson (Traded to Bufallo for picks 59 and 78 in the 2002 entry draft.

Year 3 we accomplished our goal and made the playoffs! although barely, we finished 42-32-8, good for 7th in the west and 14th overall. (Edmonton finished 8th with 43-33-6, and San Jose finished 9th with 39-34-9)

We decided to run with 6 alternate captains this year, and it was all the new veterans we signed, alternating between road and home games (I know the game only allows 2 alternates and a captain) we ran with Rafalski, St. Louis and Lehtinen on the road, and Sydor, Stillman and Kovalev at home.

We had 5 players hit 20 goals, and 4 of those hit 30, as well as having 7 players hit 40 points, 5 of those being above 60!

Darryl Sydor scored 10 goals and 34 assists for 44 points in 80 games.
Brian Rafalski scored 10 goals and 38 assists for 48 points in 75 games.
Cory Stillman scored 22 goals and 41 assists for 63 points in 82 games.
Martin St. Louis scored 31 goals and 40 assists for 71 points in 82 games.
Jere Lehtinen, our single season goal scoring leader, scored 39 goals and 32 assists for 71 points in 82 games.
Martin Straka scored 31 goals and 43 assists for 74 points in 80 games.
Alexei Kovalav is our single season points leader. He scored 37 goals and 41 assists for 78 points in 74 games.

Cristobal Huet went 33-19-7 with a 2.85 goals against, a .904 save percentage, and 0 shutouts.
Tim Thomas went 8-13-1 with a 3.17 goals against, a .895 save percentage, and 0 shutouts.

the team will be looking for much better performances from these 2 next year, with competition coming in the form of Finnish KHL MVP Pasi Nurminen, and Finnish phenom prospect Pekka Rinne. One (or both depending) of these 2 goalies will likely be moved either at the draft, or during the offseason.

In terms of rookies, Rick Nash was sent back to junior after 5 pre-season games, during those 5 games he scored 2 goals and 2 assists for 4 points, was a -2 and had 0 penalties. Back in junior for OHL London, he scored 41 goals and 26 assists for 67 points in 60 games. He finished 12th in scoring and 3rd in goals. In the playoffs he scored 15 goals and 17 assists for 32 points in 24 games. while helping his London Knights lift the J. Ross Robertson Cup. He also won the Wayne Gretzky Trophy as the most valuable player in the playoffs.
In the Memorial Cup Nash scored 1 goal and 3 assists for 4 points in 3 games, and in the final vs Kelowna, he notched 2 assists to help his team lift the Memorial Cup! He also had 2 assists in 6 games for the Canadian u-20 team, on his way to a silver medal.

Milan Jurcina scored 6 goals and 32 assists for 38 points in 62 games for Halifax, while adding 3 assists in 12 games in the playoffs, he would pick up the Kevin Lowe award for best defensive defenseman in the QMJHL.

Mikko Koivu played just OK in his first full season. He scored 11 goals and 24 assists for 35 points in 72 games, but it felt like he was just a passenger next to a combination of Kovalev, Lehtinen, Stillman and St. Louis, who almost all doubled him in points. He finished tied with St. Louis's Ryan Kesler, and Ottawa's Jussi Jokinen for 5th in rookie scoring, behind Columbus's Duncan Keith (6-33-39) Washington's Alexander Steen (11-29-40) Montreal's Michael Ryder (24-17-41) and Toronto's Jiri Novotny (15-28-43). He was also injured near the end of the season, straining his rotator cuff, causing him to miss 10 games.

Our first round playoff opponent was the Nashville Predators (52-27-5), led by free agent acquisitions Alexei Yashin (35-36-71) and Alexander Mogilny (30-34-64) Netminder Mike Dunham (36-20-2 2.39 .924) had a significantly better season then our starter Cristobal Huet (33-19-7 2.85 .904)

Game 1 we pulled off the upset 4-0 shutout win, despite being outshot 36-29. Goals were scored by Jere Lehtinen (2) Martin St. Louis (1) and Darryl Sydor (1), but Alexandre Daigle (14-20-34) suffered a thigh contusion and will miss at least game 2, Pat Falloon (6-5-11) will take his spot. 1-0 Seattle

Game 2 Nashville found their scoring touch and defeated us 6-3, shots were 33-29 Nashville. Goals came from Brian Rafalski (1) Alexei Kovalev (1) and Mikko Koivu (1) from us, while Brian Savage (2) scored twice, Chris Therien (1), Jeff Heerema (1), Kimmo Timonen (1) and Tony Amonte (1) all contributed one for Nashville. 1-1

Game 3 Darryl Sydor is dealing with a rotator cuff issue but will play, Daigle is also back, but still dealing with lingering effects from his thigh. We seem to have discovered our offensive game, as we out shot them 51-25! Cristobal Huet seems to perhaps be becoming a playoff performer, he put up another shutout! Goals were provided by Alexei Kovalev (2) Jason MacDonald (1) and Alexandre Daigle (1). 2-1 Seattle.

Game 4 our offence dried up and Nashville's inconsistent scoring landed on, well score. they out shot us 34-26 and out scored us 4-1, with 2 goals coming from empty nets. Kovalev (3) scored our lone marker, while Brian Savage (3) Jeff Heerema (2) Tony Amonte (2) and Alexander Mogilny (1) scored for Nashville. 2-2.

Game 5 was the closest game yet, we out shot them 36-32, but they managed to beat Huet 3 times, and we only beat Dunham twice. Both goals on our side from Daigle (3) while Nashville got scoring from Ian Moran (1) John LeClair (1) and Alexander Mogilny (2). 3-2 Nashville.

(Note: Nashville traded Martin Erat, Vaclav Nedorost, Bjorn Melin and their 1st this year to Philly for LeClair)

Game 6 was a wild one, 2 periods saw 4 goals scored each. Nashville edged us out 37-35 in scoring, but we came out the victors in a 5-4 win! Nashville's Brian Savage (3) Alexei Yashin (1) Alex Mogilny (3) and John LeClair (2) were the goal scorers. While for us, we had Martin Straka score twice (2) and Martin St. Louis achieved a hat trick! (4) 3-3.

Game 7, heartbreak. The end of our season, we fought well, shots were 34-33 Nashville. 2 goals from John LeClair (4) and one from Tony Amonte (3) sealed the deal. Jere Lehtinen (3) and Georges Laraque (1) attempted to bring us back into it, but Dunham maintained the one goal lead for 16 minutes in the third to secure the series win for Nashville.

Our team played well, with decent to excellent performances all around.

Martin St. Louis 7gp 4-3-7 =
Cory Stillman 7gp 0-6-6 +2
Mikko Koivu 7gp 1-4-5 -1
Alexei Kovalev 7gp 3-2-5 =
Martin Straka 7gp 2-3-5 +1
Jere Lehtinen 7gp 3-2-5 +1
Alexandre Daigle 6gp 3-1-4 +4

Jason Smith 7gp 0-3-3 =
Darryl Sydor 7gp 1-2-3 -3
Marek Zidlicky 7gp 0-3-3 -1
Brian Rafalski 7gp 1-1-2 =
Mark Streit 7gp 0-2-2 +6

Cristobal Huet 7gp 3-4-0 2.44 .924

for the off-season we need to re-sign Mark Streit and Marek Zidlicky, as well as make decisions on the following: Jean-Guy Trudel, Jason MacDonald, Chris Kelleher, Matt Henderson, Jan Hejda, Shep Harder, John Gruden.

We have extended qualifying offers to both Streit and Zidlicky, as well as Marc-Andre Bergeron, and draftees: Zbynek Michalek, Pekka Rinne, Milan Jurcina, Jay McClement, Eric Nystrom and Chris Thorburn.

the team has also come to an agreement on Helsingin Jokerit goaltender and multi time MVP Pasi Nurminen, whos KHL record is a SPARKLING 75-13-8 1.59 .942 with 13 shutouts across 3 seasons. Both players will join the team as of July 1.

I have run into a really big dilemma... mid way through the 03-04 season, we were offered a trade by Nashville... now, to give context, Nashville defeated us in 7 games in the 1st round last year, and went on to the cup finals.

the trade is as follows:

Seattle gives:

Cory Stillman 30 year old winger. Current season stats 47gp 24-16-40 +17. he is signed for 4 more years after this one at 4M per year.

Nashville gives:

the signing rights to unsigned prospect G Cam Ward (21st overall in 2002). Current season stats in the WHL 25gp 12-8-5 2.20 .924 1 shutout.
2nd round pick in 2004 draft.

Stillman is currently 4th on my team in scoring, and is mentoring Mikko Koivu on the 2nd line, 4 million for a veteran scorer who has gotten 20 goals 3 years in a row, had 60+ points last year, and is pacing for 70 this year is really really reasonable... and I also have Pekka Rinne playing in the AHL now...

Last bit of context Seattle and Nashville currently sit 1 and 2 in the west... I feel like if I make this deal Stillman will score the game 7 OT winner against me lol.

anyone have some thoughts?

Edit: I decided against the trade, we are sitting first in the division and Stillman is a big reason for that.

I'm gonna throw this on to the edit maybe one of @xECK29x , @archibalduk or @BKarchitect know the answer to this... do certain coaches just get wayyyyyyy more out of players?

I have Alexei Kovalev on my team, and in year 1 and 2 he recorded 1 and 0 hits through 82 games... since he signed with us the guy is an animal... in year 3 (His first with us) he threw 196, and now in year 4, were not even finished the season and he's got 216...

He's listed as a "Skilled offensive forward" but he throws more hits than enforcer Georges Laraque and power forward Petr Sykora... I find this weird, and a little unrealistic having watched Kovalev play lol.

Go to personal tactics and put his aggressivnes to minimum.

Something really broke in my save regarding the Olympics... in 2010, they just... didn't happen, and now in 2018 they are happening in March instead of in February, and the teams in attendance are all messed up:

Group A:

Czech Republic
Poland
Kazakhstan
Croatia

Group B:

Russia
Italy
Belarus
Estonia

Group C:

Finland
Hungary
Romania
Great Britain

so now we have:

Finland vs Hungary

and

Czech Republic vs Russia

Guess Canada/Sweden/Germany/USA/Switzerland/Latvia etc all decided to skip the tourney.

OH I found the problem! I have no clue what caused it but the rankings got all screwed up!

Poland 1st
Belarus 2nd
Hungary 3rd
Great Britain 4th
Italy 5th
Croatia 6th
Kazakhstan 7th
Estonia 8th
Romania 9th
Japan 10th
Austrailia 11th
Sweden 12th
Turkey 13th
Lithuania 14th
Netherlands 15th
Russia 16th (Dunno how they qualified)
Finland 17th (Dunno how they qualified)
Czech Republic 18th (Dunno how they qualified)
Slovakia 25th
Switzerland 26th
USA 27th
Canada 28th
Germany 30th
Latvia 34th
France 35th
Denmark 38th

Edit: Here are the top 3 since the save started:

2002 Canada-Sweden-Russia
2006 Canada-Finland-Sweden
2010 Olympics did not happen
2014 Sweden-Canada-United States

and now in 2018 its Finland-Russia-I DON'T KNOW because the Bronze Medal game was never scheduled (maybe this is what happened in 2010? cause even though the news item came up saying "Finland defeat Russia in gold medal game" and the Finnish players on my team have arrived back with "3.19.18 Olympic Hockey Tournament Winners" in their histories, the Olympics history doesn't show anything)

I've seen this bug crop up, do you remember what settings you used to start the sim? It has something to do with adding extra players at the start of the sim. Can you upload the save, and make a post with screenshots here? Eastside Hockey Manager Bugs Forum

Is it possible to do mid-season tournaments with NCAA teams? Trying to add the Beanpot, but pretty much every time the draw comes up the game crashes, and I just can't figure it out. Any time I've been able to sim and it didn't crash, it just did it once I went into view the tournament (which still did not even load). Editor doesn't show any status errors, and I don't even have any transfer rules on (I have it embedded as a North American tournament a la the Champions League)

Any time I've been able to sim and it didn't crash, it just did it once I went into view the tournament (which still did not even load). Editor doesn't show any status errors, and I don't even have any transfer rules on (I have it embedded as a North American tournament a la the Champions League)
I wouldn't use the Champions League as a model for this as it's very different, look at some of the British Cups for a good one to re-use it's the one I've played a round with for the same use case. The in-season Cups become a problem outside of the first year of the sim as the scheduling can get really finicky. Make sure you give at least 2 full days between the season stopping and the tournament starting and stopping for year to year date drift. Make sure both the NCAA and the new tournament have the "Same Teams in Multiple Tournaments" flag enabled in the league structure.

The biggest issue I've ran into making these is EHM seems to require a regular season or group stage, you cannot start a league structure directly into a playoff as the game needs a way to determine seeding. You might be able to get away with a quick 1-3 game group stage to set that. Hell for the Beanpot I probably wouldn't even have a playoff, just do a group stage (NIHL London Cup), that would probably be less error prone.

To be clear, I didn’t copy the Champions Lesgye, just made a new one, but I’ll check out simply doing a 2-stage tournament. It would be better anyways and is really what I want to do with other stuff.

I guess when I’m finally really I’ll have to share all that I’ve done. I think I want to revamp the World Cup qualifying and add a few other tournaments. I kinda want to play it before it gets to next season

ok, something else i'd never seen before just happened and I'm mad because I loaded a previous save point without thinking to make a new save to upload it here.

So I have Conor Garland signed on my team in 2024, it's the last year of a 5 year 6.45M contract he signed back in January of 2019.

in like... April of 2019, I was simming the days between the regular season ending and the playoffs beginning... like 10 or so days...

in those 10 days, a "news reporter" praised Brayden Schenn, and my response (which was automated because I was simming) was to say that while his play was good, there was "no room for complacence."

this set Garland off completely and he demanded a trade... well that season he had just score 50 goals and 88 points, and I didn't want to trade him, so I've been holding on to him knowing that in 2024 he would leave the team in free agency, but that's ok, cause we were pushing for a "one last hurrah" for the last few years with our core of Rick Nash - Mikko Koivu - Pekka Rinne, and were simultaneously trading off depth pieces of our perennial contender team and bringing in key prospects to insulate them for a year or 2 learning from these championship quality vets.

anyways fast forward to april of 2024, Garland still has the "UNH" tag and "wants to be traded" on his info page, no biggie, I'm just gonna let him walk at free agency. Guy put up a HUGE season and will get absolute shmoney in free agency, he had 55 goals and 111 points.

so, simming between two playoff games in the first round, I get to game 2, and notice an injured player (doesn't matter who, I can't remember) on IR, so I call up a prospect, but notice that my team is still at 22, I'd been running 23 the whole year...

for some reason, after dealing with eachother for 5 years of "poor relationship" status (he does NOT have me listed under people he doesn't like) while I'm simulating between STANLEY CUP PLAYOFF games... my team decided to just... put him on waivers and buy him out...

I couldn't believe it, guy was 2nd in scoring, and 2nd in goals... is well above point per game across 630 games... has won 4 cups and the calder memorial award across 8 years (going for number 5) and you just... buy that out? wtf?

anyways like I said in my panic on what had just happened I reloaded the save I had at the end of the regular season, so who knows, maybe it happens again and I'll remember to make a copy and upload it.

I’m not sure if anyone can email Riz about this, but generally has anyone simmed maybe 1,000 years in EHM 1 or EHM07? I just wanted to know how ‘stable’ the game is after so long into the future.

PSA if anyone has experienced this QMJHL bug where it's skipping rounds/picks please send me saves, specifically I need a save from before the QMJHL draft (a day or two before the draft would be best).

Trying to figure out why this schedule date table:

Produces this schedule (wrong dates). Trying to do the semifinals on December 31 on this one, but because it wants to schedule games on December 31, it's pushing the playoff to January 2.

This may be a dumb question, but you can do schedule templates for these short tournaments, right? I only thought of this now, but it's not a season, it's just a tournament.
