10 years into my save and I don't think the generated drafts have produced any 2-way or defensive defensemen. Anyone else running into this problem? All the defenseman I see in the draft have offensive attributes in the 14-18 range and defensive attributes in the 3-8 range. Even searching the defensemen in the draft pool with the highest defensive stats, they top out at 13-15 and otherwise they are atrocious. There are some good defensive forwards that come through though...

I am using NHLX currently and am in 2035, list me all the "defensive" stats and I'll tell you how drafts have gone.

I think I'm using pivot db.

But as for the attributes just even the obvious technical ones like checking, hitting, pokecheck, positioning...also from the players positions tab you can see his general description and all my D is either offensive defenseman or pointman.

OK so I sorted by those attributes and took only players draft eligible in 2022 and beyond, and there are a grand total of 29 players who have 16s or better in those attributes in the entire game.

17 of whom are currently in the NHL

12 of those players are listed as "Defensive Defensemen"

and in terms of criteria where I would draft them? (10s minimum in Anticipation, Determination, Teamwork and Workrate)

0. 0 of the defensive defensemen would meet the criteria to be on my team.

On the high end its going to be more offensive player types as I don't set player type based on projected NHL role (unless I come across something in my scouting reports and projections). Junior players usually convert more into defensive/grinder/TWF roles when they hit minor-pros and have to adapt their games. It's tough to project unless you have a really standout defensive player at that age.

I meant that there's still a good spread of the real players created in the db, but when the AI starts generating players (like say drafts 2025->), that's when the variety stops. And I think in general the quality of the prospects has a noticeable drop.

I'd like to see a save and compare vs the PG sheet to see what maybe happened. There will be a new version of the PG sheet with the next release @ImActuallyAnOtter is cooking it up and fixing some issues.

NHLers have nothing to complain about
My ethereal players have four games in a row upcoming, alternating home and away to close out 2027:

Global United Hockey (work still in progress, hope to have a new upload in the next month, in the meantime, I hope everyone else is checking out BKarchitect's NHLX! which his projects have been a huge influence on this.

Here's another sneak peak - Teams/graphics and even logos are pending. Thanks to NPF's face generator, I did custom curate some of the players.

I have updated Champions Hockey League, adding 32 additional teams now adding GUH, GUH minor, KHL, AHL, ECHL, and SPHL
unknown.png

I'm still tweaking GUH, and working on a logo pack with some friends, but I've balanced the teams and money. In addition GUHm (serving as a minor league affiliate). In addition to this, both GUH (96 teams) and GUHm (96 teams) have U22 and U18

I've been working on and renamed the expansion/re-instated NHL teams under the moniker, NHL United.

NHL United East slots into the Eastern Conference playoff race and NHL United West slots into the Western Conference.

NHL United teams only play NHL United teams during the regular season. In addition to this, each NHL United team, I'm still balancing out, but each team has an 18 year old franchise player to build around. (all -10 PA ratings, 1 per NHL United team). Each player is likely named after an existing Hall of Famer or a pop culture related name.

Albuquerque Armadillos - Jesse Salamanca, combining the names of two popular characters from Breaking Bad, a speedy goal-scoring winger.
unknown.png

Atlanta Thrashers - Hershel Glenn Rhee, I've recently been catching up on the Walking Dead, Korean-American defenseman with great leadership skills and heavy shot.

unknown.png

Anchorage Arctic Wolves - Kodiak Blackfoot, a big two-way center, a born captain, with a balanced skill set. Being able to represent either Canada or the US, he offers a key role to build around.
unknown.png

Baltimore Bandits - Omar Williams, mixing the fictitious character with the actors surname (RIP Michael K. Williams), this physical playmaking defenseman is not afraid to help out offensively.
unknown.png

Birmingham Bulldogs - Atticus Van Zant, taking the first name of an iconic literary character and the surname of the band that brought us Sweet Home Alabama, a strong skating, playmaker, with a solid defensive skillset to make him a force at both ends of the ice.
unknown.png

California Golden Seals - Theadore Logan-Anderson, Ted from Bill & Ted's Excellent adventure mixed with The One, Mr. Anderson, this future franchise goalie players an acrobatic style, and continues the career of the Youngblood inspired actor. Since his namesake is of mixed-race, I've made Ted a dual American and Chinese citizen.
unknown.png

Cleveland Barons - Shaggy Rogers, this one is a bit more obscure, but the tall thin goalie is missing his partner, Scooby. During research, I read that the gang is from Ohio, and I was running out of ideas for this one, so I went with it.
unknown.png

Halifax Highlanders - Dougie Glatt, well, this is obviously stolen from a certain movie, I've never seen it in the game, but he'll be the first franchise Enforcer. A bit more skilled than his movie counterpart, an Israeli American
unknown.png

Hamilton Tigers - Jimmy Howlett, for any fans of the popular Marvel character's original name, hailing from the same Cool Lake Alberta, Jimmy Howlett is a skilled, small yet aggressive powerforward. Very strong for his size, he has a lot of grit with the propensity to shoot when he can.

unknown.png

Hartford Whalers - Howie Gore, after Gordie Howe left the Red Wings he made a pitstop in 2 franchises that don't exist anymore. I've decided to split him into twins, meet RW Howie the sniper. With a good balance of both shooting and passing, he also gives the team a great leader with a physical presence.
unknown.png

Houston Astros - Harry Gore, twin brother of Howie, assigned to Gordie's other non-Red Wings franchise, Harry is a premiere physical playmaker with a similar skill set as his brother. Can the two ever be re-united to bring either team to the cup?
unknown.png

Hawaii Honu - Dwayne Maivia, The Rock played a hockey player in a film, but I felt like he'd be the ideal power center with a blistering shot. He represents American Samoa for the countries first NHL star.

unknown.png

Indianapolis Racers - Gennadiy Wretzky, a name obviously inspired by the great one, I felt Indianapolis never had a chance to keep their star. This time around they do. He might be one of the best playmakers in the game, with potential to boot. Of all the players, he's the most NHL ready, and he's ready to compete for the Calder.

unknown.png

Kansas City Scouts - Kal-el Clarkent, this do-it-all defenseman, is the Kygystani-American super defenseman. has the physical skills to make him one of the best in the league, he can be the anchor for the team throughout his career.
unknown.png

Milwaukee Stags - Alfonzo Cunningham, named after the Fonze and Richie Conningham, this playmaking defenseman plays in Happy Day's home state of Wisconsin playing for the re-located Michigan Stags to Milwaukee.

unknown.png

Quebec Nordiques - Xavier Laflamme, good friend of Dougie Glatt, I am a big fan of that movie, and felt Quebec needed a true French-Canadian super star. While, he'll have to be developed correctly, Xavier Laflamme has the potential to become a top goal scoring center in the league.

unknown.png

Portland Buckeroos - R.P. McMurphy, named after Jack Nicholson's, he's kind of an oddball, and play both forward and defense pretty well. He's definitely a character, but a fun player to build around. He represents Ireland.

unknown.png

Saskatoon Silver Foxes - W.W. Wilson, from the same world as Jimmy Howlett, this deadly sniper has a dangerous array of shots. He's fast, and powerful, and can develop into an elite goal scorer.
unknown.png

Ok, I’m remaking a USHL with 27 teams (edited ECHL template), and I’m getting an error of ‘unable to find right number of teams’ and I have it right in the stages, basic info, structure, and clubs screens. Schedule template off (but one is present). What am I missing?

Are you talking about the general warning where you can’t even click the league or schedule warnings per division as the game loads up?

Yeah it’s loading. It’s not grayed out on the league select screen.

Looks like adding the schedule template didn't fix it

View attachment 502647 View attachment 502648

Those errors mean there simply isn't a match between the number of teams defined under Basic Data in the structure (Number of Teams) and clubs assigned to the league in the DB and based on your team pick rules for Stage 0/1 the game isn't able to pick up those teams. If you want to take this to PM and send me the DB I can take a look and send screenshots back showing what to fix.

Ok, so this was in the data and figured it out, in my re-aligning of things to match the templates, I had the wrong teams in the wrong divisions after I re-entered the conferences. Which I thought I fixed but evidently not. Just kind of a dumb oversight.
