Here's a question, I don't think I missed, what does the 'continental licenses' do?

It defines who competes in either the Champions Hockey League or Continental Cup.

So for the first season it adds teams into those competitions based on which teams have a license on the club info screen.

For the CHL you can define how many a,b and c license s are given out and from what leagues under the transfer rules for the tournament

For the continental cup, after the first season the game uses teams from the same league that the first season teams came from, lower c will mean they begin in the first round, lower b second and lower a third

So, under the transfer rules for the Champions Hockey League (I can't find the Continental Cup) I see

Number of A licenses - 18
Number of B licenses - 8
Number of C licenses - 6

and then all the candidates, but the for A there's 4 leagues, for B there's 3, and C there's 7. So how does it determine who is left in/out when there isn't an even number to go around?

In the drop down for the clubs, there's the CHL A, B, C and then 'Lower' A,B,C which i guess becomes the continental cup?

Yep Lower A,B and C is for the Continental Cup.

If for the CHL the number of licenses given out are not able to be evenly divisible by number of leagues, then the game will randomly select the leagues to get the extra places.

For example in my own DB which is based on the 2019 season i have the split as follows A-15, B-9, and C-8 so for the A License the SHL, Liiga and Swiss National League will all get 5 places regardless, I've done it this way because i didnt want for example the DEL to get 5 places whereas the SHL only got 4 which could happen in the transfer rules you quoted.

So for the B License that you quoted above two of those leagues will be randomly picked to get 3 places while one will get the remaining 2.

I dont know if its an hardcoded element of the game or if i somehow stumbled in getting it to work but although i have 8 C licenses i also only have 7 leagues and as true to real life the winner of the Continental Cup the prior season gets the 8th c license so you can sometimes have leagues that arent defined in the transfer rules also compete, most commonly in my test runs the Kazakh or Alps teams

Hi Folks,

I'm so stoked to stumble upon all the hard work that has kept EHM alive and thriving. I used to play the heck out of the original game, wandered to the mediocrity of FHM, became completely frustrated, quit, bought the next version, wash, rinse, repeat. You know the drill.

Really looking to get back into EHM, but I'm not going to lie, setting up a modern game with patches, logo/face packs has me a bit perplexed. Wondering if there is a kind sole out there willing to help me setup the most modern, files/packs/etc..?

I have the Beta 1.5 Version on Steam. Followed, the instructions from Archibalduk to switch to the Beta. I guess what I'm asking is which packs/roster files do I need to subscribe to have everything start fresh in October for a 2021-2022 season. Do I need to subscribe to Asian/Rest of the World logos from the 2018 season, or are there some end all be all database files that cover much of this?

Does switching to Beta and subscribing to the proper packs update automatically in Steam, or do I need need to tweak a few things before everything is good to go for a new current career?

Thanks for your patience with a hockey gm/sim passionate old guy trying to keep up with all the great work that has kept this amazing game alive.

The two databases I maintain are Pivot and TBL, Pivot is a rolling DB (meaning it's kept up to date throughout the year), if you want a pure "start of season" database use TBL, they are the same core DB I just lock the transactions. There are other improvements (re-ratings, added leagues, updated clubs etc) in Pivot vs TBL, I'll update TBL after the NHL trade deadline so it has the same parity with Pivot.

Facepacks are totally your choice, do you like the action shots of Aalstroem vs the cut-out faces, I'd also add NPFs faceback for "AI-Generated Players", this will give you faces for future prospects that we seed into the DB. For logos just stick to Dani9's logo pack for Pivot, will work across both DBs. Just make sure you follow the directions for the recommended starting settings for Pivot and TBL, you will lose a lot of detail if you do not use the recommended settings.

Big thing with the game is to be patient, there are still a lot of bugs/weird issues and things we can't quite control with the DB. If you run into major issues let me know.

Thank you so much. That was very clear and exactly the information I was looking for. Cheers!

NHLX HAS ARRIVED!

Happy 2022 everyone! I'm pretty excited to announce that the NHLX database for EHM has officially dropped. See the preview video below and be sure to visit the website:

https://ehm-nhlx.wixsite.com/nhlx

There is just way, way too much for me to go over in a post on a forum. So I've developed the website to go into great detail on all the ways NHLX has evolved to bring an immersive hockey sim experience to EHM that is fully based on reality but offers exciting tweaks, additions and scenarios. From top to bottom this database has been completely rebuilt to bring together all the ideas that have originated from over a decade of EHM database editing and tinkering and includes a fully integrated graphics package including ALL logos in the game and my EHM skin - now rebranded to match as the NHLX Skin.

It's not available on Steam. I may make that jump at some point but for now check out the website for the initial release downloads and installation instructions. It's really not hard - and I take you through the process step-by-step including the graphics.

I'll be continually updating and improving and won't always announce new releases unless they are big...but expect weekly - if not more frequent - updates of the database for download.

Comments are appreciated. I've run all leagues on fully enhanced mode through the 2050's and no critical errors yet. So it's performing well. And again - if you have questions - please give the website a look, especially the Installation instructions and the NHLX Features drop-down which goes into painstaking details on every change, modification and feature of this database.

Thanks to the entire EHM community!

It looks awesome!

I tried starting a game with the Montreal Canadiens and ran into a problem. My board doesn't want to give me more than 100k/year to sign scouts/physio, but they are asking for 400-600k/year.

EDIT: Price also seem to be retiring in the first month of the season.

FYI @BKarchitect we ran into this issue with Pivot in the past, check your min full time wage, that is intended to be used as the “national minimum wage” and applies to staff too. Feel free to compare with my financials.

Price starts on LTIR and is old so sometimes the sim retires him. I find it to be about 50/50. If I shorten his injury, it makes it less likely so I can look into that. As a rule I generally don’t include injuries except if they are LTIR with intent to retire (Kesler, Weber etc), injured for the entire season (Blair’s, Walker, etc) or very uncertain due to either concussion or personal issues (Hence Byram out all year).

I’ll look at fixing the staff salary issue per @xECK29x suggestion.

Lol you don’t have to stop tinkering yourself!
Ha, I won't, there's a bunch worldbuilding elements I'm attempting.

Just one thing I'd point out for accuracy's sake that I'd think you'd want to know, and because I am a college football man, but in your Big Ten conference for NCAA, you have Iowa State (Cyclones) instead of Iowa (Hawkeyes). Iowa State is in the 10-team Big 12, and Iowa is the one in the Big Ten.

ISU has a really well supported ACHA ice hockey team so they are an affiliate member in hockey like Notre Dame since there is no Big 12 hockey league and since the Hawkeyes have no hockey team. So this was a conscious decision based on a strong ACHA club I could promote and it is still a big school with AAU membership so they aren’t out of place as a peer for hockey-only in the B1G. I know it looks odd lol. But Mizzou is still in the Big 12 for wrestling, for example, so I view it as a quirk for a sport not a ton of schools play.

Hadn't known that about them. Figured it would be the other way around if I were to guess. There's a lot of junior hockey in Iowa so someone should be on that level from there

has anyone ran into the minor issue where every once in a while a random player will not retain his history for his entire career?
for example:

in the Pivot db I'm currently running a sim and am heading into the 2048 offseason. I drafted a center named Benoit Gaudreault in 2044, he played 2043-2044, 2044-2045, 2045-2046 in the OHL with Barrie, but the game only shows his 2042-43 season in the OJHL and his 45-46 season in Barrie.

next, he played 46-47 in the AHL for 70 games, and in the NHL for 20, however it only shows his 70 AHL games.

and finally, he played all 82 games in the NHL in 2047-48, racking up 48 points and placing 3rd in calder voting. However now in the offseason it says he has 0 total career NHL games, even though he should have 102. In total only 3 seasons are displaying under his career history page, even though he has been playing for 6.

I do want to point out 1 thing @BKarchitect, I'm not entirely sure if this person has been blacklisted by the league, or what his current standing is. however I noticed that Randy Lee is listed as the AGM of Kansas City, and that guy resigned/was charged with harassment of a sexual nature in 2018 while working for the Ottawa Senators, and hasn't worked in the league since.

not a super big deal, but here is a quote from the ESPN article when the case was settled in 2020:

"Then-57-year-old Lee was visibly drunk at 716 (a bar and grill in Buffalo) when he requested that this specific driver take him back to the hotel. Lee then touched his own genitalia, made lewd comments and rubbed the driver's shoulders during the five-minute trip."

I highly doubt we will ever see him in the league again.
