hey BK how much better is NCAA recruiting? I've always found the NCAA cannot sign high reputation prospects, has this been tested and fixed with your NHL X system?

I somewhat cheated and did a ton of future extra transfers built in. It's still not great with just the CPU generated players. I know @xECK29x team has done some work to make that better in the Pivot rosters.

I do want to point out 1 thing @BKarchitect, I'm not entirely sure if this person has been blacklisted by the league, or what his current standing is. however I noticed that Randy Lee is listed as the AGM of Kansas City, and that guy resigned/was charged with harassment of a sexual nature in 2018 while working for the Ottawa Senators, and hasn't worked in the league since.

not a super big deal, but here is a quote from the ESPN article when the case was settled in 2020:

"Then-57-year-old Lee was visibly drunk at 716 (a bar and grill in Buffalo) when he requested that this specific driver take him back to the hotel. Lee then touched his own genitalia, made lewd comments and rubbed the driver's shoulders during the five-minute trip."

I highly doubt we will ever see him in the league again.

Oh geez I thought I got rid of that guy...I was testing staff attributes when I put him on KC...KC should have no real staff anyways. I'll retire him immediately from the DB. Pretty sure I got rid of Quenneville, Murray and the others.

Ok in this 2053 test sim, the 2052 draft from last summer has 5 NCAA players in the top 27 shown on this screen.

#11 - Knuble (USA)
#12 - Dzingel (USA)
#13 - Walters (CAN)
#14 - Hayden (USA)
#25 - Wisocky (USA)

That's not too bad. Of the other Americans,

#3 - St. Louis - went straight from a junior club to the pros
#5 - Shaw - went straight from a junior club to the pros
#10 - Chatfield - is in the USHL and wanting to play NCAA but has not committed
#17 - Pollastrone - went the OHL route
#18 - Helgeson - is in the USHL and wanting to play NCAA but has not committed

ZblNAgW.png

The 2053 draft rankings have guys already in the NCAA as freshmen ranked #11, #27, #28, #36 - plus the #16 kid, an American playing in the CSSHL is wanting to go the college route.

So overall, not that bad in terms of higher end prospects although it seems like all the Americans who are so good that they go Top 5 in the draft skip straight from the USHL or whatever junior league to the pros. So probably some tinkering left to do.

Also - all the North American junior clubs are a pain - I can't get any of them to actually respect the age limit rules I have put in place for minimum contract age or to respect if I am trying to constrict the nationalities so that the Canadian midget and bantam league stay Canadian and the USA midget and high school leagues stay American. There are a ton of guys who flip flop around during their junior careers...like a kid from Boston playing in British Columbian midget hockey or 14 and 15 year olds playing in the USHL even though it has a minimum contract age of 16.

NHLX HAS ARRIVED!

Happy 2022 everyone! I'm pretty excited to announce that the NHLX database for EHM has officially dropped. See the preview video below and be sure to visit the website:

https://ehm-nhlx.wixsite.com/nhlx

There is just way, way too much for me to go over in a post on a forum. So I've developed the website to go into great detail on all the ways NHLX has evolved to bring an immersive hockey sim experience to EHM that is fully based on reality but offers exciting tweaks, additions and scenarios. From top to bottom this database has been completely rebuilt to bring together all the ideas that have originated from over a decade of EHM database editing and tinkering and includes a fully integrated graphics package including ALL logos in the game and my EHM skin - now rebranded to match as the NHLX Skin.

It's not available on Steam. I may make that jump at some point but for now check out the website for the initial release downloads and installation instructions. It's really not hard - and I take you through the process step-by-step including the graphics.

I'll be continually updating and improving and won't always announce new releases unless they are big...but expect weekly - if not more frequent - updates of the database for download.

Comments are appreciated. I've run all leagues on fully enhanced mode through the 2050's and no critical errors yet. So it's performing well. And again - if you have questions - please give the website a look, especially the Installation instructions and the NHLX Features drop-down which goes into painstaking details on every change, modification and feature of this database.

Thanks to the entire EHM community!

I love what you do for this community.

has anyone ran into the minor issue where every once in a while a random player will not retain his history for his entire career?
for example:

in the Pivot db I'm currently running a sim and am heading into the 2048 offseason. I drafted a center named Benoit Gaudreault in 2044, he played 2043-2044, 2044-2045, 2045-2046 in the OHL with Barrie, but the game only shows his 2042-43 season in the OJHL and his 45-46 season in Barrie.

next, he played 46-47 in the AHL for 70 games, and in the NHL for 20, however it only shows his 70 AHL games.

and finally, he played all 82 games in the NHL in 2047-48, racking up 48 points and placing 3rd in calder voting. However now in the offseason it says he has 0 total career NHL games, even though he should have 102. In total only 3 seasons are displaying under his career history page, even though he has been playing for 6.

Can you send me this save or post a bug report on the forum? Eastside Hockey Manager Bugs Forum

If I'm in the NCAA rules and structure, and the order of the divisions changes under the division structure (since each 'division' has different numbers of teams) is that going to screw up the schedule template?

Yes the first division listed will be 0,1,2,3,4,etc - the second division listed will be 100,101,102,103,104, etc - so if they have different numbers and you change the order, it will screw up the template.

Why do you need to change the order though?

EDIT: I'm talking about the template screen where you list the divisions. That's what is important - if that is the same, it doesn't matter. So you are talking about just switching them in the actual league structure screen which should be fine so long as number of teams aren't changing.

This is the order that matters to the template numbers:

I'm not 'needing' to change the order, but I'm basically looking to do a realignment similar to what you did, but I never learned how to properly put together a functional schedule template. For instance, I want to make a new Big Ten with a different number of teams and probably delete the AHA with something else, but the database has to align with the proper number of teams in the division.

In the DB I'm in, it has it
1 AHA
2 Big Ten
3 ECAC
4 Hockey East
5 NCHC
6 CCHA

So, it has a schedule template active, and I think it needs to stay on (?) to keep the interconference play.

So unless you want to redo the schedule template, the easiest way is to just make sure you end up with the same number of teams total and the same when split by division but you can alter within that framework so long as you redo the order of the list on the schedule template page.

If the original DB has:
1 AHA - 10 Teams
2 Big Ten - 7 Teams
3 ECAC - 12 Teams
4 Hockey East - 11 Teams
5 NCHC - 8 Teams
6 CCHA - 12 Teams

And you want 10 teams in the Big Ten and don't mind blowing up the AHA, then adjust or replace the AHA with a 7-team conference, put your 10 teams in the Big Ten and then order it like this:

1 Big Ten - 10 Teams
2 AHA or Whatever - 7 Teams
3 ECAC - 12 Teams
4 Hockey East - 11 Teams
5 NCHC - 8 Teams
6 CCHA - 12 Teams

That looks to be my course of action, screwing with the schedule template is a dangerous game to me

I'm playing with the Jets using @xECK29x 's pivot 6.7 database. Going into the season, I got the warning that I was slightly over the cap. So, I went ahead and waived Beaulieu so I could send him down. As soon as I waived him and before I assigned him to the Moose I got a message that Beaulieu and Heinola had been assigned to the Moose. Later making other moves to clear space to call Beaulieu back up. 5 game days later I saved and quit the game and later when I loaded that save, I got a message that Beaulieu had been assigned to the Moose again even though I was cap compliant and had not sent him to the Moose.

Would that be a game or database issue?

Likely game, I'd have to look at the save to see what happened.

It hasn't really affect gameplay yet, I was just curious. Is it something you'd be concerned with? I just wanted to being it up in case it affected anything else you're working on.

But it doesn't seem serious to me.

I took the Nordiques on in NHLX and I have had the absolute best start to any season I've ever had!

we are in 2033-34 and coming off the back of five presidents trophies and 4 Stanley cups in a row:

history.png

to start the drive for 5, our team is 19-0-1 to begin, our starting goalie is 17-0-0 with a 1.66 GAA, a .938 SV% and 2 shutouts, and through 20 games we have 4 forwards who are p/gp.

also question for anybody really, have any of you ever changed players positions using the editor if they don't particularly feel at home in a given position?

like, I try to make players who have decent (65+) faceoffs at least have C as a secondary position, and if its 75+ I'll give them C as the primary.

but one thing I tried that I had never done before, was turned a forward into a defence. Kinda like Brent Burns, only this guy ain't winning no Norris trophies anytime soon, hes a top 4 defensive minded d, who has never even been nominated for the Langway (NHLX Defensive D award)

but he works extremely well, he rounds out my top 4 really nice, and seems to put up decent numbers, he's played 2 seasons as a Dman after 9 as a forward in the NHL, and he put up 28 as a career high as a forward, but now as a dman, his 2 seasons were 24 and 58, currently through 20 he has 10, or on pace for 42 over the season.

Curious did you start 21-22 with Quebec? Empty or with the filled in (albeit weak) expansion draft roster? How long did it take you to be really competitive?

Also wow, Tampa Bay dynasty and I guess the Arizona rebuild with a million draft picks lid off!

started empty, picked up a slew of 30+ year old NHL 4th line vets, then snagged players off of waivers...

it took me until... 2028-2029 (yes the first year I won the Presidents) my team literally went 18th in the east all but 1 of the first 7 years, and the 1 time we finished higher (year 4) it was 14th instead of 18th. ever since then it has been 1st in the NHL for 5 (probably soon to be 6 given the way this season is going {December 11th and were 33-0-1})

I should also caveat this by saying I almost never make trades, and only signed a few (albeit key) free agents. We picked up Oscar Klefbom, Matt Roy and Jacob Trouba as we started getting better for D insulation, and on the forward side we picked up mid 30s Vlad Tarasenko, Andreas Johnsson, Jesper Fast and Trevor Moore.

on the goalie side, other than Gabriel D'Aigle (4th overall in 2025) our only other starting goalie with a winning record in franchise history is Logan Thompson, who was our starter for our first cup.

in terms of draft picks who have made an impact:

2022:
1st round 6th overall Simon Nemec RD 877 GP 32 G 274 A 306 P +82 519 PIM
2nd round 40th overall Marco Kasper C 685 GP 62 G 113 A 175 P -94 109 PIM
2nd round 40th overall Marco Kasper LD 192 GP 12 G 89 A 101 P +82 12 PIM
(^ This is intentionally written like this, these are this players splits between being a forward and a D, as you can see, he is a muuuuuch better D than he was a forward, although it may be a symptom of the dominant team)

2023:
1st round 3rd overall Dalibor Dvorsky C 828 GP 367 G 496 A 863 P +334 356 PIM
2nd round 37th overall Scott Ratzlaff G 68 GP 44 - 13 - 7 2.82 GAA .901 SV% 1 SO (Backup for 3 of our 4 cups)
3rd round 73rd overall Dmitri Belyakov RD 441 GP 49 G 233 A 282 P +98 186 PIM

2024:
1st round 1st overall Aron Kiviharju LD 726 GP 83 G 396 A 479 P +178 314 PIM
3rd round 74th overall Danila Sysoyev LW/RW 392 GP 121 G 165 A 286 P +84 64 PIM

2025:
1st round 4th overall Gabriel D'Aigle G 236 GP 192 - 31 - 11 2.30 GAA .920 SV% 11 SO
1st round 18th overall (traded Matt Roy and somehow got a 1st) Roman Rizvanov C/RW/LW 519 GP 197 G 312 A 509 P +278 170 Pim

2026:
1st round 1st overall Viktor Fyodorov C 528 GP 180 G 282 A 462 P +180 281 PIM

2027:
1st round 1st overall Vasili Weissfeld LW 118 GP 67 G 48 A 115 P +62 52 PIM (he only just joined us last year (Cup 4))

after that we never drafted top 10 again (and wont for a looooong while I presume)

3 1st overalls, 5 times in the top 5 in 6 years.

I guess the Arizona rebuild with a million draft picks

they got Matt Savoie 1st overall in 2022, Brad Lambert at 10 (WHO NEVER LEFT EUROPE) and Dylan Silverstein who was there starter for 6 years including the 2 cups.

then they got fleeced with ANOTHER top 10 pick in 2023, 2nd overall Matvei Michkov who stayed in Russia until his draft rights expired in 2026? signed a 2 year deal in the ESL with Jokerit, then joined the peppy up and coming QUEBEC NORDIQUES and proceeded to win a whole slew of accolades I may post his career stats when I get through it or if he ever decides to leave Quebec lol.

mannn the 80's and 90's were WILD... I was hoping this would be the season Michkov would overtake Jagr (in game) as the highest scoring individual season... he wasn't even CLOSE... 69 Goals and 66 Assists for 135 points... his (and the NHL's) highest point total since I started playing, but... 14!!?!?!? points below Jagr in 96... over 36 points behind Lemieux that same year... and a whopping 80!!!!!! points behind the all-time 215 of Gretzky a decade prior in 86

ok so, Matvey Michkov is having an absolutely BONKERS 2034/2035...

I will fully admit, he had 44 goals in 44 games, then got suspended and missed a game, he proceeded to have 47 goals in 50 games... HOWEVER:
Michkov huge accomplishment.png

60 goals in 60 games!? I do not coach or set tactics, lines or team selections.

10 years into my save and I don't think the generated drafts have produced any 2-way or defensive defensemen. Anyone else running into this problem? All the defenseman I see in the draft have offensive attributes in the 14-18 range and defensive attributes in the 3-8 range. Even searching the defensemen in the draft pool with the highest defensive stats, they top out at 13-15 and otherwise they are atrocious. There are some good defensive forwards that come through though...
