I just started a new save with 6.5. I'm going to be GM only and have my coaches do all tactics and lines and etc. and only do roster selections and negotiations. Will be running the Coyotes (as usual). My personal restrictions: Refrain from gaming the trade engine by getting star players when they are put on the block due to financial constraints; refrain from annually getting the #1 draft pick by trading my best players; and promote from within as much as possible for team depth (i.e., use existing prospects rather than wheeling-and-dealing to rob AI teams of their top prospects at will).

I'll post updates if there is interest - my last save, I made it to the playoffs in year two and went to the Finals in year three, but that was after getting Charlie McAvoy in trade for Conor Timmins, so I'm going to try and practice some self-control in that area... :D

I won the cup with AZ in 2026 in my save after acquiring Jack Hughes for Christian Fischer, and Tim Stutzle for Nick Schmaltz, Matias Maccelli, a couple picks and literally 6 bags of pucks!

it's been a fun ride but I think in my next run imma do Buffalo with closer to your restrictions, no acquiring players I know will be stars cause teams put em on the block for under performing in their systems...

My only robbery trade was for Chaz Lucius (who had good attributes but 20-30 pts in Winnipeg).

Also ended up getting Nylander, Sorokin, Lehner and Saad for cheap in FA at different point in time. Each time was a two year contract at 2-3 million in September (except Lehner who was mid-season at around 1 million), but all have since re-signed on bigger deals since then (except Lehner again).

Was that Alex Nylander or William Nylander?

may game plan is to start off by finding my key Russian UFA’s and try and get some of them cheap

Guys, another question.

Can we be the GM of a team and a national team at the same time (like in football manager)?

I hope we cannot because I decided to reject the offer of the Russian team. LOL
Well in fact for my first career in this game I decided to focus only on 1 team and that's all.

I already rejected an offer in different years to be a GM of San Jose, Pittsburgh and Carolina.

I started a career with Mettalurg Magnitogorsk (KHL)
1st year lost in the Gagarin's Cup Finals
2nd year eliminated in the 1st round
3rd year eliminated in the 2nd round

Key highlights include more NHL organization updates, slow but steady and consistent progress there, I really like the way they are coming out. MASSIVE updates to the NCAA future commits and the leagues which feed into those programs. My extra_config size doubled in this release (over 2000 lines).

General Updates:

- Latest notable transactions
- Updated Prospect Generator to v5

- NHL organizational re-rating (players, prospects and RFAs) completed for: Boston Bruins, Buffalo Sabres, Detroit Red Wings, Ottawa Senators, Tampa Bay Lightning, Toronto Maple Leafs, Vancouver Canuncks and Vegas Golden Knights
Canadian Updates:
- Updated heights/weights of OHL, WHL and QMJHL players
- Updated rosters for AJHL, BCHL and MJHL clubs
Russian Updates:
- Updated retired players/staff, club affiliations and further tweaked foreign player rules for KHL -- thanks Angry_Duck!!
Slovakia Updates:
- Updated HK Kosice-Cana club details and colors (still need to update 2.Liga rosters) -- thanks R0bin!!
United States Updates:
- Updated rosters for AHL, ECHL, NAHL, NCDC, SPHL and USHL clubs including USNTDP.

well if you count SCF as a "win" then I went 5 in 7 in my teams peak... (SC, 2nd, SC, SC, SCF, 2nd, SCF)

as for me the player that "fled" was Joakim Kemell, but I've already ranted about him enough.

the one that bugs me a lot is Chychrun. 2 years ago my team wasn't making the playoffs, he was 34 and in a contract year. He had played over 1200 games for us while picking up 2 norris trophies and being an all-star 10 times (6 1st teams, 4 2nd teams)...

anyways my team was out of a playoff spot and he was making 10M/year, he had 37 points in 62 games at the deadline, and I traded him to Calgary, thinking they didn't have the space to re-sign him. at the time they were like, 2nd in the league.

I got really excited at the thought of acquiring 2 key D prospects and a 1st for him (even if that 1st was projected to be late).

I got even more excited when Calgary absolutely imploded! they went something like 4-18 in their final 22 games and missed the playoffs. So now I got the 3 pieces for Chychrun, the 1st was out of the playoffs so top 16, and I was gonna pull a little sneaky and sign Chychrun for like 6mill back to my team in the offseason.

well the pick is looking great! View attachment 476415

however doesn't that bastard in Calgary re-sign Chychrun 3 days before free-agency opens up... to a 1 year 12.8M deal.

no worry, I'll pick him up at the end of NEXT year! Calgary make the playoffs this time, but lose in 6 in round 1. Chychrun signs ANOTHER 1 year deal!!! this time for 13.455!!!!!View attachment 476416

maybe one day he will come back to retire as a Coyote where he belongs... :(
Well now I'm at three straight SC wins :P

Lafreniere was a great add. Beat his previous career high by 22 points. Ended up trading Saad mid-season to give some opportunities to younger guys.

Lafreniere - Wright - Nylander
Glover - Lucius - Sandqvist
Benito - Petrov - Tuch
Pharand (16th in 23) - Hayton - Fischer
Frost, Reini (32nd in 24)

Chychrun - Stenman
Bischel - Soderstrom
Punnett - Sotheran
Wells (32nd in 23)

Sorokin
Lehner

Goalie situation might get spicy as both are set to hit FA.

hardcore mode: No UFA and you need to trade your picks for nothing.

or like, play only with 4th picks and up if need some farm/prospects for depth.

This of course would require to rob the AI in trades, but without FA or prospect pool, you also need to manage the age of players and contracts very carefully.

@xECK29x I ran in to a touch of a schedule error in my save last night.

not entirely sure if this can be fixed or not... however the "trading resumes" date comes prior to the playoffs concluding at the NHL level... so I ran into this fun quirk last night:

2 playoff teams same year.png

he played for 2 playoff teams in the same year!

not only that but:
wins the cup.png

he won the cup after being knocked out in the first round with my team lol!

Odd, what year are you in? Can you make a post and upload the save to the Bugs forum?

This can happen if the POs go further than June 9th, which they do in your 2021-2022 Pivot DB.

Would have to delay the opening of the trade window further than June 9th.

4th straight Cup. Ended up trading Tuch as his play was going down.

Lafreniere - Wright - Nylander
Glover - Lucius - Sandqvist
Benito - Hayton - Fischer
Pharand - Petrov - Pavlovs (70th in 25)
Frost, Freschi (31st in 25)

Chychrun - Stenman
Bischel - Soderstrom
Punnett - Rada (37th in 24)
Rehak (73rd in 25)

Sorokin
Jasek (11th in 24)

Salary is getting tight, so Pharand might become a cap casualty. It's a shame because he will probably flourish if given top-9 minutes, I just have LW up the wazoo.

I see it, minor fix will patch it in. There is an AHL scheduling fix being patched in also.

Small update pushed, mainly wanted to get this out as it fixes some league structure issues raised to me regarding the NHL and AHL. Shouldn't impact your existing saves too much, not worth re-starting over (unless you are an Oilers fan because they are re-rated).

General Updates:
- Latest notable transactions

NHL Updates:
- NHL organizational re-rating (players, prospects and RFAs) completed for: Edmonton Oilers
- Reduced Player of the Week awards to just a single player to reduce amount of news items and repetitive awards to players
- Moved NHL trade window re-opening to June 15th (after possible 7 round SCF) -- thanks Treb for reporting!!

AHL Updates:
- Updated league structure for 82 regular season games from 76, the schedule was proper but the league structure wasn't updated so it would announce playoff teams too early. -- thanks Worgbane for reporting!!
- Renamed/re-branded Palm Springs to real life Coachella Valley Firebirds and updated arena

Canadian Updates:
- Updated rosters for CCHL, OJHL and QJHL clubs
- Added some (presumed) OHL affiliations with OJHL/CCHL clubs

Will patch the NHL/AHL league structure things into TBL. I plan on doing a larger TBL update once my NHL re-rates are complete.
