I took Stankoven, for the Calder. The guy has some experience as well as he is the most high end rookie on such a high end team in Dallas. As well as likely stating the season on a line with a potential star player in Wyatt Johnston. I am thinking it's kind of odd J.Doan and N.Kovelenko are not even listed ? if Kovalenko sticks on the top 2 lines, I can honestly see him being a Dark Horse this year. I actually just looked and daily faceoff has him on the second line with Middlestadt and Lehkonen, and on the second PK. If can see him and Rantanen getting swapped around if Colorado struggles at all, the Aves have been known to split up Mckinnon and Rantanen from time to time. Maybe he even gets some first team PP time as well., we all now how flakey Drouin can be. With Landy injured and Nichushkin out long term there are some real openings. I got to figure that Colorado is still thinking of trying to add another lower end top 6 forward, and moving players like Colton and or Girard.

Was thinking about throwing some $ on Kovalenko (still am) but he’s going to need to have a monster season at his age. Panarin only won it because he was 10th in league scoring AND McDavid got hurt. Kovalenko would have to do similar imo, last year 10th in points was 98.

I do agree he’s a sneaky bet to get some serious opportunities.

A lot of good young players coming into the league, but Matvei's vision and hockey IQ is off the charts. A true rink rat with an amazing desire to get better.

You think that any rookie is going to get 98 points this year?

Casey is currently leading and I don't know if anyone will catch up.:dunno:
Enjoy the spotlight as he will be off the throne next weekend.

What about him? I personally think he can be one of those nobody-expected-it Calder contenders.

Is he even going to play enough or on the top 2 lines?

I guess it could happen with an injury but even then for him to excel it's going to be secondary to another Sharks rookie one would think.

Gushchin may not even make the opening night roster.

I'd love for it to be Celebrini, but I think Michkov or Stankoven have to be the early favorites.

Michkov, Celebrini, Hutson, and Stankoven is my four. In that order. I’d say big gap from Michkov to the rest, and then the other three all are around the same odds.

He led the team in scoring in the preseason, I'd say the chance he'll made the team is pretty big, and there is no point to use him outside top9. So I'm pretty sure everything is going to be in his hands.

Of course the Sharks can be a bunch of idiots and let him go, either for free or trade him, but I doubt they are.

Your choices are completely wrong. The Sharks don't have to let him go for free or trade him. He's waiver exempt, and two players who might have gotten cut are not (G. Smith and Kostin). Since they're not on waivers today, the only way Gushchin is on the Sharks and not in the AHL on Thursday is if Will Smith starts in the AHL (highly unlikely) or if Granlund starts the year on IR, and Gushchin is called up. This very well may happen, which means Gushchin is the first call up for the team but isn't really in the plans for the top 6 barring injury (Celebrini, Toffoli, Eklund, Granlund, Zetterlund, W. Smith).

It's his contract year, without playing in the NHL he won't get a good contract next year so he'll either demand trade during this season or go to the KHL next season.

That's fine, but they don't have to waive or trade him right now. He will definitely get NHL games this year, injuries are inevitable, and it might happen as soon as Thursday if Granlund isn't good to go. You were wrong, it's OK.

My guess is they will probably trade him later in the year if he's shown anything in his NHL games. I'm not saying that's the right or wrong decision.

So you say I'm wrong and then confirm I'm right...

I know you love to tweak and troll, but here's what happened

1. You said Gushchin is a dark horse for Calder
2. I said he might not even be on the opening night roster, depends on injuries, and my bet is on Michkov (trying to make you happy!)
3. You said Sharks had to trade him or lose him for nothing, which is not at all the situation for the roster right now.
4. I told you that
5. You said "well, it's his contract year so they have to eventually trade him or sign him or he goes back to the KHL" which is correct but has nothing to do with 1-4
6. I told you you were right about #5 but that it doesn't change 1-4
7. You said that I told you you were right, which I only did about #5, but not about 1-4, which you were wrong about, and which is relevant for whether he has a chance at the Calder since he's not likely to be in our top 6 without injury.

Hope that helps. You really do love to take threads off track.

Michkov is my choice.
