Player Discussion: dylan samberg

I think Pionk is a good partner for Samberg, but the Jets do better in terms of controlling play when Samberg is away from Pionk than when Pionk is away from Samberg.

Still, I think Pionk's play has improved this season. He seems faster and more physical. I wonder if he's more healthy than he's been in recent seasons.
His ability to create separation in different ways with his skating, whether it be forward or backward, are a unique quality.

I still don't know if you can measure past results with past players in a past system.

The eye test tells me that Samberg still has some struggles as a puck moving d-man, and that is where Pionk is a fairly reliable outlet. It's also the quickness with which they move puck d to d. If he was up there with Josh I think you'd see the same results.

The top PK is most definitely him and De Melo. They work well together.

What do you have as a number for Samberg's next contract?

using WoodMoney's quality-of-competition stats, and looking at their elite and middle tiers of competition: samberg really stands out

Anyone else see that donkey Dave Wheeler say that Samberg is on the trade block, on his podcast? That can't be true can it?

The name of his podcast annoys me - Slangin the Bizkit. Are they just trying to rip off Biznasty's name for hits/views? Ugh.

Guessing it's not true. Dave Wheeler is a tool. And I listened to a recent Jets podcast that mentioned Sameberg's wife apparently clapping back at them for the bullshit they tried to drum up.

If he's indicated that he's not going to sign long-term, then it absolutely could be true. With just a one year arb contract, he can force his way to UFA in 2026. Not sure why everyone thinks "locking him up" is such a done deal... it's not. He will have a lot of suitors if he wants.

The Jets won't trade Samberg now though even if he wants out. It'd be an off-season move. You don't trade a player like Samberg leading up to the playoffs as a contender if you're not forced to, and we're not forced to. He still has trade value later.

But boy would that suck if he does want out. But I'm not buying it because the rumor doesn't make much sense to me.

It would absolutely suck, but he'd carry a ton af value. You could use him as a piece to solidify the 2C or top 4 RHD for the foreseeable future... he's an example of a guy that would get Lou's attention in a potential Dobson trade

The timing of this Samberg rumor just seems to reek of bullshit to me though. If he did want out, he wouldn't be making noise about it now, of all times, when the Jets are #1 and aren't going to trade him anyway. There's practically zero chance Chevy is taking calls or shopping him either, at least right now, at the TDL.

Agreed, just people looking for clicks imo.

Yeah and the boys on "Slangin The Bizkit" are the only ones with the scoop, eh?

Please share with us what you've heard and sourced to corroborate their rumor that he's "on the trade block."

I honestly thought when I heard him say that that he meant Stanley
