I am not afraid to admit that I am much more comfortable and confident watching the Jets play with this guy on the blue line. He's that good, and it is kinda nuts that not only has he improved so much over the past year, he came back in the lineup after missing more than a month and it looked like he never left.

yup. his ascension up the roster is how the expectations or path should be for similarly rated or drafted prospects.

Samberg started with an opportunity of 15gp in '21-22 - played v well
'22-'24: crushes it in a 3rd pair role for a couple years as morrissey and dillon were ahead and playing well
24-25: moves up the roster and continues to crush it in a 2nd pair role.

in terms of most valuable:

i was thinking he might be ahead of ehlers and vilardi in terms of being valuable.

Helle (tier by himself)
-
Scheifele, Morrissey
-
Connor
-
some mix of ehlers, samberg, lowry and vilardi.

given we've seen pionk's level of play through the years including this one w/o samberg, i think samberg championing the 2nd pair to v good levels might have him ahead of those other fwds in that tier group.

But, Pionk has looked okay with Fleury, Berg, and for a period with Stanley. That's a lot of d he has to make look god.
I think overall Pionk has looked good with everyone this year. A real renaissance for him - so happy.

That being said snerg is really his ideal partner. Such a fantastic compliment to one another.

I still have Pionk ahead of him due to his overall ability but Samberg is a fantastic 2LD

Am I crazy, because I seem to remember Samberg being pretty poor for his first run of games in the league, I believe in that 2022 season to start. I remember him turning a major corner at some point.

In 2021-22 they tried him with Pionk and it didn't go well. He played about half his minutes that year with Neal and the shot metrics were terrible. Maybe that's what you're thinking of?

Even then his shot/chances against metrics aren't far off his recent years. The "for" side is a bit lower, which I have trouble attributing to just a D pair (excluding the elite offensive guys, make, josi, hughes, jomo, fox etc)

He struggled at times getting the puck out, played best keeping it simple. He had some dreadful memorable giveaways like the Vegas OT giveaway that made him look bad. But he has played very well, keeping it simple. He's a great compliment to Pionk.
Pionk has a broken foot and other things last year and might have been better off taking a break. But he's much better now
