Pretty much begging to join Marner in Toronto.
Wonder what it would take?
Wonder what it would take?
Yep, youre hardly the first person to pretend that. Then Larkin won't be a Leaf, because rental or not Yzerman would 100% want Knies included in any deal for Larkin. Considering that the Leafs prospect pool isn't all that great to begin with.

Bingo. One is trade protected and the other isn't.Nah, he wants Marner to come to Detroit.
I'm not pretending anything, It's a pure fact, outside of Knies you don't have anything within your organization to offer us for Larkin.Yep, youre hardly the first person to pretend that.
Mhmm.I'm not pretending anything, It's a pure fact, outside of Knies you don't have anything within your organization to offer us for Larkin.
A vast majority of your prospects would be rock bottom in Detroit's organizational depth.
I don't blame him.Nah, he wants Marner to come to Detroit.
I think Yzerman would be in tears after Marner's dad ruined his planned salary structure by asking for 14 millionNah, he wants Marner to come to Detroit.
Term is insurance in case the player falls apart. That extra year is money in the bank.
nah. not for a ufaTrash within the division, Add Knies as well and we might think about it.
I didn't say it happens often. You said it never happens which is just factually incorrect.Having to go back decades to find a couple guys that did it is definitely not often.
Fine and Larkin won't be playing in Toronto then.nah. not for a ufa
You gotta think that Larkin should get over 9 after Horvat's deal, right?
Why? There is no way Yzerman pays him more than 8.5 now that Horvat is signed at 8.5, especially with Yzerman eyeing Horvat before he went to the Isle. You gotta think that Larkin should get over 9 after Horvat's deal, right?
exactly = teams can lose franchise making players for nothing , a ridiculous system . but the league doesnt care because the same amount of money still comes into the nhl , it just goes to the team that signs the ufa and improves . the fans that pay to back the red wings get ripped off . my fix is the team is given an additional draft pick according to players worth . say in this case an extra pick is added to 1st round making it 33 picks , with detroit getting say the 9th pick . so detroit doesnt get ripped off , and larkin is free to do what he wants . and the team that woulda drafted 9 just drafts 10Why wouldn’t Larkin just ask Detroit for a lot (like 9.5-10) and see what happens? He’s got the no trade clause in his current contract so he has all the power. Yzerman has literally none.
Yzerman has 3 options to choose from:
1. Give Larkin what he demands
2. Trade Larkin before the deadline to where Larkin chooses. Which means Yzerman will only get what the teams Larkin chooses offer.
3. Let Larkin go to UFA and run the risk of losing him for nothing.
Is there something like a bridge offer that I’m missing?
I dont mind this as a thought exercise, but 9 seems way too high.exactly = teams can lose franchise making players for nothing , a ridiculous system . but the league doesnt care because the same amount of money still comes into the nhl , it just goes to the team that signs the ufa and improves . the fans that pay to back the red wings get ripped off . my fix is the team is given an additional draft pick according to players worth . say in this case an extra pick is added to 1st round making it 33 picks , with detroit getting say the 9th pick . so detroit doesnt get ripped off , and larkin is free to do what he wants . and the team that woulda drafted 9 just drafts 10
yes the degree of compensation could be debated . but one point ide add in larkins particular case is points arent everything . in this players case he is a high level puck rusher that gains the zone then makes effective passes constantly (not his fault all his career hes had untalented teammates that couldnt finish the chances he creates) . giant motor and huge wheels that get him north n south constantly , monster fore and back checker . excellent leader on / off ice . has averaged like 60 points per on a very weak team entire career , anybody thats watched him play on units including abdelkader-aa-mantha-dekeyser-ericcson-green-vanek-etc knows his pain . and with his wheels hes has ruggedness to him to deal with heavy and or dirty traffic . hes also clutch af . i admit i might have homer glasses on as ive watched every nhl game larks has played and become a huge fan of his spirited all out game so i might be over rating .I dont mind this as a thought exercise, but 9 seems way too high.
Lets say if a guy hits above a certain threshold (ppg %? Total points over last 3 years?) and walks in FA, teams get a picn between the 1st and 2nd round, the order depending on who has the highest point % among all players that qualify.

I would not have to think that.
teams spending thee extremely important asset of a draft pick which is their life blood that they can then lose through no fault of their own isnt a problem to you ??Compensation picks depress salaries. What are you giving up to the union to make your plan work?
Well Larkin’s agent should and he has a clear clear clear recent data point now to point to signed by a player who isn’t as good.
