raymond sure but a winger isn't a need for the leafs. it's the last thing they need. why would the leafs use their best trade chips on a winger, where is the logic?
Because Raymond >>> in every single scenario?

The logic is getting an amazing 20year old player for a B level prospect?

Oh man, you guys are a strange bunch.

Are Detroit fans okay paying Larkin long term at or north 9m cap hit? Larkin has a better track record of offensive production compared to Horvat and is around 18 months younger so I wouldn't be surprised to see him get up to 1m or so more than Bo did long term.

Seems similar to the Stamkos and Yzerman contract talks back in the day. Everyone thought Stamkos would go to the Laffs, yet he signed and signed for less than what people thought in regards to his current contract. So i could see Yzerman having a similar stance with Larkin, a local kid who sounds like he wants to be a life long Red Wing
I'm perfectly fine with Larkin at $9M or even a bit above it. There is no reasonable scenario where we let go of Larkin and come out ahead, barring winning the Bedard lottery, but that can just as easily happen with Larkin signed. I don't see anyone trading us an unprotected pick, even for Larkin.

Agreed, Detoit could fetch a nice return if they dealt him but with Larkin's age he is a perfect fit to sign long term and lead the Red Wings back into the playoffs and for them be a successful team again.

Larkin made 600k more than Horvat on his current deal, isn't scoring at the same pace PPG wise as Horvat this year but has 3 seasons of eclipsing 60pts 1 of which was over 70pts. So Larkins track record to me makes his next deal somewhere as low as Horvat's if he does a team friendly sort of deal to maybe as high as 9.5m, maybe a bottom feeder team with loads of cap space would offer Larkin 9.5m or more as a UFA. Does he want to leave Detroit and chase $$$ like Horvat chose to do or does he want to sign a FAIR contract to remain his teams captain for the long term!?

so what if raymond is better. it's about getting the best option for the leafs. you really have a hard time understanding this. winning the trade would be nice but winning the cup is the end goal.

Tell that to your fellow Leaf fans that think they are / should be trading for Meier
meier > raymond.

still think there are better uses of the leafs picks/prospects but i can understand meier. you don't seem the get the leafs are going for the cup.

You’re getting a ~60pt 20yo on his ELC…. For a B level prospect.

Every team, in every single situation, takes that trade and RUNS

Hell, take that trade and flip Raymond for some other great rental like Meier + if you must, but there’s no world where Dubas would turn down Raymond for Knies

Yzerman doesn't have the same leverage he had with Stammer as he does with Larkin. Yzerman had no tax plus a cup contending team to work with in Tampa. Nowhere close to those things in Detroit.

You literally said the only one worth giving up Knies for is Seider… where did you say it’s Knies +?

That’s like me saying I wouldn’t give up Lysell for Marner and then saying I actually meant Lysell + McAvoy when called out on it.

Is Larkin better than Bo Horvat who just got a 8.5 deal?
I would say overall body of work yes he is but Horvat has certainly been better this season.

Hard to tell what GMs would value more when signing the respective players

1st Lysell DeBrusk a reasonable offer from Boston if we get to that point? (We won’t)
I think that’s way too much for Larkin, even with an extension. That’s if course assuming DeBrusk keeps playing the way he has over the last 60 or so games

32 OA, lysell and a winger who wanted out of Boston few years ago is an overpay for a 26 year old PPG Center? wow lol

wings easily say no.

Larkin isn’t PPG.

DeBrusk wanting out means absolutely nothing when he recinded it and has been great ever since

DeBrusk is younger than Larkin so not sure why you even brought up age

This season, DeBrusk and Larkin have close to the same PPG.

Debrusks highest point totals are 43 playing with Marchand and Bergeron lol
Debrusk plays wing, much less valuable than C
44 in 48 isnt ppg? ok sorry 0.92 PPG playing with garbage wingers.
If lysell was a C maybe the value is there, but wings say no lol

Bo got his 8.5 before he hit UFA.

Bo Horvat didn't get to see other offers that might have been available.
NYI was the only club who could offer him 8 year term. Hitting the ufa market means Larkin is limited to a 7 year term. So can look at it like if Larkin secures $9 mill AAV his total salary is $63 mill which is $5 mill less than Bo but he would have 1 year at age 34 to seek a contract worth that amount.

Every bit Larkin could get above $9 mill per reduces what he’d need to get when he hits the market again at 34. But don’t know what kind of player he will be. Could fall off like Perry or still go strong like Bergeron and Pavelski. Or somewhere in between.

I don’t think folks know how good DeBrusk is, but he also isn’t going to stroke peoples “25 is old!” view points.
