Friedman: Dylan Larkin requests trade, Part II

Larkin is going to have to be more open with his NTC, but he's not waiving to go to a dumpster fire team. If you send him to a competing team, they're not likely going to trade you good younger players, as they kinda want to keep those... They're competing, after all.

The chances of getting Larkin for good young NHL players directly is less than the chances of getting Larkin for picks and prospects and then flipping those assets for good young NHL players.
He will be traded for picks and prospects. Don’t be surprised if there is also a cap dump in there bringing in even more value as Detroit is going to need to hit the cap floor and exchange salaries.

lol. Declined? He’s actually become a better all around player. He also plays a position that’s much more in demand than Brady. I honestly don’t know one evaluator who do this for a living, who thinks Brady is the better player. He offers some intangibles Dylan actually doesn’t, yet many people believe he does. The people in the know, see the difference though. That’s all Brady has on Larkin. Intangibles, and GMs don’t increase or decrease value in intangibles. Maybe when keeping a current player, but not in trade values.

Everyone I’ve talked to tonight believes this trade is great news for Detroit. Especially OTT getting that Top 10 pick, which they’ve believed Detroit would always get two of those. Either in picks or prospects who equate to a recent Top 10 pick, as well as two other pieces.
If you had to guess, where do you think he ends up most? My money is on Utah or Anaheim, with Dallas as a dark horse. Dallas could offer Detroit a C and a high end D in bichsel making an edvinsson trade for 2nd overall more palatable.

Anyone thinking Florida removing themselves from consideration hurts the Wings in negotiations with both Larkin's camp and prospective teams don't understand positional value or contracts. If anything this sets the absolute floor for what a team that wants him can even bring to the table and then the Wings can negotiate up from there.

Plus this almost guarantees Larkin will have to loosen his list or be left behind on a Wings team that hates his guts lol

Except no other team has the same picks to offer, so congrats, your 1C is now Marco Kasper.

The hilarious thing is that Kasper might break out in that type of role, so I don't see the problem. We were always going to be taking a step back in any permutation of a Larkin trade, unless the assets the other team gives up are then flipped for win now pieces. Hell, we were probably taking a step back without a big add to this team even with Larkin, given that the Atlantic is still going to be hyper competitive.

Seems to me that the Larkin trade has to be a hockey trade involving real NHL players in return. If Detroit gets a package of picks and prospects, their fans should demand Yzerman's head and rightly so.
Why? There's no realistic version of a Larkin trade that brings Detroit anywhere close to Cup contention in the near future. Take the hit in terms of how the team does this year and (re)build around long term success.

Lmao, the Yzerplan all along was Kasper in the first line center role, now I have heard it all.

That means no picks then. And the prospects need to start contributing this coming season. Utah probably could make the best offer. Maybe the ducks if Detroit is willing to take mctavish as the main piece in return.
Not necessarily. No matter what Larkin returns, Detroit needs to make additional moves. Some of those moves can include flipping picks for players or prospects.

I just don’t think that is the thinking in the real world. My $0.02.

They can take picks along with prospects, they aren’t going to do only picks though. I’d be shocked if they did. They are going to want a center and defense prospect coming back.
