Friedman: Dylan Larkin requests trade, Part II

Possibly. I think an honest assessment could simply be that folks like Tkachuk/Larkin/Hellebuyck are just tired of not winning and have been convinced that their organizational futures aren't nearly as bright as they might have thought.

There's only so much room for any of the "warm weather/tax-free" states to take on superstars, in terms of Cap. So it's not like they can just take everyone that wants to leave their current team.
I do agree with you, but you have to admit, those teams are doing an envious job of collecting a lot of high pay high end players. It is impressive, even if frustrating.

Its just going to be very hard to find a center.... teams too good to draft high enough to get a center
too bad to bring in a center in free agency(not that many of those exist nowadays), prob wont entice people to waive their NMC/NTC to play there anymore.

Its kinda a disaster, unless Yzerman can work some sort of magic
Maybe they need to get a young up and coming LD and a play driving winger out of the deal. Then send pick + prospect and take a chance on EP40.

There is no chance on EP, he's a Copp level performancing player making 11.6M a year. Not that the cap hit matters all that much with how much room Det has but the lack of quality play does matter.

How much do you guys respect Elliot Friedman around here?

He said in a podcast that Yzerman would not accept the return Staios got for Brady for Larkin.

(You can listen at the 24:00 mark and verify yourself) 32 Thoughts: The Podcast

Makes sense, Yzerman is probably looking for decent young players that have potential and have shown something at the NHL level already. Out of the teams that Larkin wants, only Lundell fits that mold, but Florida was not interested in dealing him so there's that, Larkin will have to wait I guess.

Ya stock was also low on guys like Seth jones, Zegras, etc. sometimes you just need to take a chance. What’s the worst thing that happens? He’s not good and we tank? Say what you want but the guy has talent, it’s the type of swing that has the potential to really jolt this franchise if he pans out. Even if the chances are 15% I’m at the point where we don’t have much other options/ways to do it.

According to Kypreos - Larkin's destination of choice is Dallas

"Frustration and lack of playoff games finally got Larkin to a point where he requested a trade from Detroit with multiple years left on his contract and a full no-trade clause. While Larkin will have some control over his next destination because of that clause, GM Steve Yzerman also has control on if Larkin gets traded at all. There is a strong push for Larkin to expand his list of teams he’s willing to go to. Yzerman will not move him if he feels he’s getting squeezed. Look for Yzerman's former assistant GM, Pat Verbeek, to try and get in on this. However, it appears Larkin's destination of choice is Dallas."

If it's Dallas...I wonder if doing a deal around Larkin and Debrincat for Robertson/Hryckowian+ would be a play

Kinda thought the same thing…. At the same time what can Vegas really offer.

Literally the only thing of any value that Vegas has to offer is Dorofeyev lol.

And hard to sell a team on "Here's our winger he'll be great next to Andrew Copp".

Doroeyev is too valuable of a player to Vegas. He's their best shoot first guy. The only way they trade him is if they can't afford him anymore or if they believe Brett Howden or Bowman can fill his shoes. Howden is great in the playoffs as we all saw this year but he's yet to show consistency in the regular season.

They could offer Hertl to Detroit if Vegas need more cap space. And picks on top, maybe a guy like Bowman. He looked really good in his time this year in the regular season, should be a regular next season

Dunno what's funnier between "We don't have shit to offer and want your 1C, but no you can't have Dorofeyev," or the counter offer of Hertl, like he's going to waive to go from Vegas to Detroit.

Watch some type of crazy three way.

Pinto, Spence and a high pick to Detroit. Robertson to Ottawa and Larkin to Dallas.

Don't want Hryckowian, make it Larkin/DeBrincat for a signed Robertson and Bourque and I'll drive them to the airport for you.

If Dallas had the cap to take on Larkin and Debrincat they'd just keep Robertson and Bourque.

Ok but even the other proposal doesn't work because the post still mentions both Larkin and DeBrincat.

Ideally, the deal would probably be around Larkin for Robertson, there's no need to add DeBrincat.

Probably ends up having to do what FLA did and move Robertson for assets, if he's not willing to sign long term with a team that Dal is looking to deal him to. Same kind of power that M. Tkachuck/Dobson had. No trade protection, but unless a team is comfortable with a rental price, he does have some power over where he lands.

Yeah, there's not much option for both to go. Unless we took Seguin I suppose.

Larkin for Robertson isn't exactly ideal, though. Strong wingers and f*** all down the middle still doesn't work.

Well you can always deal DeBrincat+ to land your center. The season is messed up already, you're probably not gonna get a good replacement unless we swap for Hischier or something along the lines.
