Player Discussion Dylan Holloway Part 2 | Coming Off of an Injury and Turning Pro in '21-22

Ugh was really hoping Dylan would get some time with the big club this year. Hand injuries are always so tricky. Good opp for Benson to come in this camp and prove himself though.

That's another 3 months on top of the other 5 month recovery period he already had for the same injury. And we'll only know if it was "successful" when he can return to play.

So yeah, I'd say it's pretty concerning.
Let’s hope it goes through a successful recovery process then

No way Holloway should have played even a single game for the Oilers this season even if his wrist was 100%.

Oh I never meant to imply he was going to.. but saying no way is a bit over the top as well.

He would have had to stand out immensely in training camp, Or tear an new ass out of the AHL. Unlikely but not impossible.

This second surgery completely kyboshes that imo. The best I can think is that he has some miracle comeback AHL campaign and forces his way into the Oilers for the playoffs or right before the playoffs.
Extremely unlikely. Though I'd love to be wrong.. that's a good thing.

Hell I'm just hoping this isn't chronic or forever f***ed and that he doesn't lose a complete year of hockey.

I don’t know. He’s going from college, not junior which should help. I mean people had him pencilled in to winning a spot in camp (or up by Christmas? so I don’t see how 4 months in the AHL wouldn’t be enough to be a good call up for the playoffs.

We’ll see. I think he’s going to be highly motivated and end up taking a spot near the end of the season and never looking back
NHL players unless established struggle when they miss a few months to start. A guy who has never played pro will most likely struggle. It has nothing to do with him as a player but starting behind in a next level league is extremely difficult

Hopefully he can make a quick recovery and go have a good season in Bako, come to camp next year ready to take a spot on the big team.

Effin crazy given the teams history and loads of high draft picks.

The NHL screwed us out of Gretzky getting it and media group think screwed us out of McDavid and RNH getting it (making up arbitrary games played and +/- rules).

That was the year Panarin won it, yeah?

Absurdly bad luck with the recent 1st rounders (injuries, etc). Drafting too late to expect a Calder winner nowadays (which I’m more than fine with :thumbu:)

Significant disappointment for a player viewed to be close to NHL ready. Holland was measured in his response about Holloway's injury. His comments about a slow healing injury and likelihood it might a year between Holloway's games played are not ideal.

Hope that Holloway's second surgery goes well and he is able to get his pro career moving.

He wouldn't be an Oiler if he didn't have some early injuries to overcome :sarcasm:

I think he'll be fine
