Player Discussion Dylan Holloway Part 2 | Coming Off of an Injury and Turning Pro in '21-22

If anything (and I know the usual poster will claim his career is done) it's encouraging that the Oilers medical staff are pretty aware of the situation and what exactly is wrong.

It's not one of those usual Dr. Doolittle situations. The Holland interview shows they know the injury, they tried the standard method, and the healing process was known to be difficult, so they're adjusting their tactics.

Reading about a scaphoid non-union injury made me understand why they performed another surgery after the first procedure didn't work.

Hopefully, this more aggressive approach stimulates proper bone healing.

Bone graph or screw I'm guessing maybe both. Poor circulation to scaphoid make healing slow. Sometimes fusing is the only option left.

reoccuring injury?

Its 1 injury.
My fingers are crossed it doesn't end up as a Klefbom style one injury.

Hopefully whatever they do doesn't ruin his game, if it doesn't heal 100% and he doesn't retain full mobility his effectiveness as a player will drop.

That said I think he will be back to 100%

He’s out 3 months dude. He’ll be in the AHL around December or January. I really don’t see what the problem is with this? It’s an injury that they needed surgery for again and it went successfully
That just means there were no complications the day of surgery. That doesn't mean it worked and will heal properly. His first surgery was "successful" at the time of surgery as well. An example of an unsuccessful surgery was when klefbom contracted that staph infection years back.

Disappointing ... was really looking forward to seeing how he looked against pros. Hopefully he heals up quickly.

I gotta admit, I'm a bit concerned about this injury effecting him long term the more I read about it.

It'll be tough for him to ever reach his potential if his wrist is never 100% again. I guess we'll just have to wait and see and hope for the best but it's a bit worrisome considering that he needs a second surgery many months after the first surgery didn't do the trick, and I'm usually one of the more optimistic ones.

So the kid should be back in January. Should give enough time to get some development done in AHL esp if the Condors make them playoffs

Hockey is a tough sport, every player gets injured one way or another, and oiler fans have seen our fair share of our team getting battered. I think as a athlete, especially a hockey player, learning to recover from injury is just as important in proper nutrition and training.

McDavid is a testament of the willpower to overcome his injuries and his work ethic to achieve his recovery is beyond measure.

It is unfortunate, but I rather see Holloway's development be delayed a few months than risk any further injury while playing. And if it takes alittle longer, so be it. Make sure he is fully recovered. It's not a huge rush to get him into the lineup.

I think Edmonton has some of the finest doctors in the world and he's going to get the best instructions to make sure the healing will be done correctly. God bless Hollaway's full recovery.
I think it really goes to show, that after Klefbom, I think management and coaching, and medical staff are making sure they give the best treatment for their players. Respect.

Could be top 9 in a month
I think he will be here for the playoff run. He will be a top 10 forward for us.

Then the forward depth woild beninsane, So holland pretty much has to trade for a goalie and a D.

Like
Hyman McDavid Kane
Nuge Draisaitl Puljujärvi
Holloway MacLeod Yamamoto
Fogele Ryan Kassian

Ryan would be the weakest forward.
I cant belive they waived Sce before Perlini.

Holloway, Bourgault, Broberg are probably why Holland is loathe to give up another 1st rounder. The org seems to be having pretty good success lately with their top picks. As well, they haven't reached a level in the league where the pick they give up is a late one.

During Holloway’s draft year I was really hoping for Askarov or Jarvis. I was so pissed that Carolina took Jarvis a spot ahead of us and knew nothing about Holloway but he’s looking really good so far. He seems like the type of player that can play anywhere in the lineup and be effective.

Of they aint get a A goalie, they should really hold on to that 1st

It should not be given up for a pure rental. Only a quality player with term should move the needle for moving our 1st or any of those players.

Holloway is not just a good player, but the type of player this team sorely lacks. We have lots of skill in the lineup, and some grit. Adding players like Hyman, Kane and Holloway soon will bring in players known both for their skill and grit. I was disappointed at his draft year that none of the projected top 13 fell to us at 14, but the truth is, Holloway is who we needed anyway.

I think we also need some more players who can snipe the puck too. How good is Holloway at this ?

I’m not getting all of the love for Holloway. At the last World Juniors he didn’t knock my socks off and was demoted from the top line. Maybe his role is middle six with the juniors and bottom six with the Oilers, but why all the love? I realize he is doing great in the AHL in his short stint so far.

Holloway is excelling in every league he bumps up into. You are putting way to much stock in a hockey tournament.
